Don't really get your point.
SG mode = farming?
We don't farm as most people understand it - but I don't quite get your definition.

[/ QUOTE ]when you go into SG mode you start getting prestige for the SG, so the moment you gain a prestige it was farmed as you had to take action to achieve the goal

[/ QUOTE ]

......that has got to be the most lame [censored] definition of farming I've ever heard

Farming is repeatedly doing the same mission or action, over and over and over KNOWING it gives you a higher rate ofinf/prestige/drops than normal. The MA is a perfect example of farming, look at the vast majority of missions marked as farms, they almsot all contain things like Rikti Comms Officers as they give a higher rate of xp than anything else, that's why the xp farmers chose them.

If any member of the Handies (myself included) did play these sorts of missions and advertised it to the rest of the SG, they'd be kicked in a heartbeat, Von wants and has got an SG that wants to have fun and play in regular teams. I've been with them for over a year now and have had a great time whenever I've teamed with them!

The closest we've ever come to "farming" we've ever done is numerous runs of TF's, but it's never been the same TF night after night, we run them in constant rotation and even then in it's always in a different order!

To say that playing in SG mode is by definition farming is likely to get you a fair few comments on here to the contrary

I'm proud to be in the Handprints, they are a great bunch of people and I've had some great times teaming with them, especially when things have gone wrong and the superteams get their [censored] handed to them (which happens quite regularly, so I guess we're farming teamwipes as well then )

Long live the Handies, they deserve to be at the number one and number two spots

Yeah not sure I understand Forsaken_Empire's logic either. I've a couple of toons in the Handprints SG and I can tell you it is basically a community within a community, And to me it's everything that is right about this game. Both their SG's are proof that you don't need to PL or farm to get what you want from the game. And despite in real life being a 7ft tall, bearded Yorkshire man named Steve you'll be hard pressed to find an SG leader who puts in as much effort as Von does

And lets be honest asking someone to fight in SG mode for SG planned events is only common courtesy, especially if you're the person that event has been planned for.

but to me the moment you start play any toon you have farmed from the start. it don't matter what you done it farmed going from one mission to then next that also includes repeat the same mission over and over again, it is farming as you gain more Xp/Inf/Salvage/Recipes/prestige each step after a kill that in range to your toon. this is my final word on this but i do wish you the best

[/ QUOTE ]

So you're basically saying that playing anything in the game is considered farming? For example: if I log in and do a TF it's considered farming? Or even if I do a mission from any contact you will classify it as farming?

Dude, do you actually know the definition of farming?

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
Farming

1.The act of repeating an action a number of times for the purpose of earning something from the repeated action. In City of Heroes this most often involves resetting a mission a number of times in order to earn something out of the mission multiple times. Things earned vary from experience, to influence/infamy/prestige, to badge credits

wiki Farming so yes

wait that's farming, I thought Chiller was in the wrong place

now i know why i wasn't getting inf

also congratz on becoming top!

I've been with the Handies for about eight months and if at any point I'd thought the Handies were farming I would have left.

The prestige total that the Handies have, both red and blue side, is representative of what the Handies community is. That amount of prestige was earned because the Handies community is made up of many like-minded people who enjoy playing the game regularly together. In this respect prestige is actually doing the job that I like to think it was designed for: giving an indication of how active a SG is - for active read: regular, varied, and (above all) fun.

This SG is not 5 sad individuals farming prestige until they have the most. This SG is many great people playing a game they enjoy together. The minute the Handies stop being that I will leave the game because I will probably not find a better SG. Von (in particular) has worked hard to make the Handies community what it is and I think that finally taking the number one and two spots is vindication of her efforts. Long may the Handies continue.

Although I don't like/agree with your prestige earning rules, they have certainly worked for you and those in your SG. Gratz again.

We would like all villains to be in SG-mode all the time (except those at 50th level). We realise that above 20th level your infamy collection goes down gradually (you won't really notice it until 34), so we have decided to subsidise those continuing to generate prestige
for us. Of course, you needn't take the grant if you don't require it, but it is there if you do (you won't need it, for example, if you have a level 50 who can self-subsidise).

5,000 prestige = 50,000 infamy
10,000 Prestige = 120,000 infamy
15,000 Prestige = 190,000 infamy
20,000 Prestige = 260,000 infamy
25,000 Prestige = 330,000 infamy
30,000 Prestige = 400,000 infamy
35,000 Prestige = 470,000 infamy
40,000 Prestige = 540,000 infamy
45,000 Prestige = 610,000 infamy
50,000 Prestige = 680,000 infamy
55,000 prestige = 750,000 infamy
60,000 Prestige = 820,000 infamy
65,000 Prestige = 890,000 infamy
70,000 Prestige = 960,000 infamy
75,000 Prestige = 1,030,000 infamy
80,000 Prestige = 1,100,000 infamy
85,000 Prestige = 1,170,000 infamy
90,000 Prestige = 1,240,000 infamy
95,000 Prestige = 1,310,000 infamy

100k prestige = 1,500,000 infamy (e.g. 1st to 25th level continually in SG-mode will get you ~100k prestige)

200k prestige = 2,000,000 infamy

300k prestige = 2,500,000 infamy (e.g. 1st to 35th level continually in SG-mode will get you ~300k prestige)

400k prestige = 3,000,000 infamy
500k prestige = 3,500,000 infamy
600k prestige = 4,000,000 infamy
700k prestige = 4,500,000 infamy
800k prestige = 5,000,000 infamy
900k prestige = 5,500,000 infamy
1,000,000 prestige = 6,000,000 infamy

You must request the infamy from the Corps Treasurer, not from any other villain in the group. Claims can be backdated, but allow for an initial backlog of claims that we can't afford to pay for immediately.

Any level 50s are encouraged to donate spare infamy to the Corps Treasurer to aid in paying for this subsidy.

Wow...for someone who's not interested in prestige that's a lot of effort put into working that out, don't you think Forsaken?

Interesting quote I found on the web in some random, unused forum somewhere...

[ QUOTE ]
Farming - doing something repetetively for the reward (XP/drops/inf). For example, doing a mission but not completing it and then exiting and resetting over and over again, or street-hunting a certain villain type in a certain area. Repetition is key, if you're not doing the same thing over and over, it's not farming.

[/ QUOTE ]

Emphasis mine there.

Now, you see, by that definition, what the Handies do isn't farming as we don't do the same thing over and over, other than running regular task forces.....you know, for fun and because we like teaming as a group of friends.

And another one I found, same place...

[ QUOTE ]
Grinding - Doing something for the reward it gives you, not because you actually enjoy doing it. For example, focussing solely on getting the KR jetpack on a new toon, doing newspaper missions so you can ding because you've outlevelled your contacts (grinding XP), or missioning to gather inf for a new encancement (grinding inf).

[/ QUOTE ]

Again, emphasis mine there, but, again, as we enjoy doing these things, it can't even be considered grinding either.

And yeah, the Sg rank could be considered "sucky" but as it's the only ranking system in the game that is measurable, it's the only one we can use. Other SG's could easily argue they are more active, or have a bigger base or are better at PvP, but these are nigh on impossible to prove without a mountain of datamining anyway, so we'll just continue on, a good group of people who enjoy playing the game together, as a group, simply because we enjoy it

lols at this thread now.... So what if the hand prints farmed prestige every night for the past 2 years? They're still at the top and that's all this thread was about. If they did it without farming at all then an extra well done to them.

Everyone has a different definition of farming.... Look at the MA farming threads for example. So no point in splitting hairs.

Coin is right about the ranking system, no-one knows for sure who is the most active etc. Except we do know without datamining who the best PvP'ers are.

Just leave your congratz or just leave this thread tbh.

To farm or not to farm... it will always be a hot issue (and people who know me know what my POV is on this), but this is not the real issue at hand, so give it a rest please.

I have been retired from the game for a while now -and yes, I still read the forums now and then-, but I joined the Handies in the early stages and imho they are overall a fine bunch who have fun as their main credo, most specially thanks to their active, committed and cheerfull leader Von. Nothing but respect for her and the way she's been leading the Handies and inspiring players. A big hurray to her and all her adjudants!
So big congrats to the Handies for getting in spot nr.1 on both sides. Keep it up and stay cool!

Even though i'm not in the handprints (i'm on bail as i wound everyone up sayin i farmed but any thats another story)

So yeah i was in the handies, an they never ever farmed, the prestige was from shear TFs etc an just a general consencious throughout the SG to stay in SG mode.

Great SG i have to say, but they are jealous because i'm better than them (that was a joke spiff so dont go jumping down my neck as usual please hunny bunch)

but yeah they deserve No1 for sure

Well done handies! As one who has been in and out of the CHP (I've never been active long enough on an alt to stay in on a permanent basis) I can say that my time with the handies was enjoyable. They are extremely focussed on their goals and go about this with the aim of having fun along the way.
