MA Investigation 1 - Begins Wednesday

Avatea

I'm sure a few of you will remember this thread I posted last week. This thread is to say that without major complications, the first mission of the arc should be up either late Tuesday, early Wednesday.

This thread is to announce that, and to lay the rules of the thread and the game -

So without further ado, he thread rules.

1. The forum rules and code of conduct must be followed at all time. (This goes without saying but I don't want 2 pages worth of important investigative discussion lost because GR or Avatea had to prune the thread)

2. I will not post any information which can be found in the missions within this thread.

3. There are no rules about playing in character or not, it is down to the individual player if they want to post in character.

4. Work together, discuss information, this isn't a competition but a bit of fun and there won't be any prizes for achieving the goal.

5. I will (hopefully) use characters created by other players as suspects or victims. Where ever I do this I will portray the character as accurately as possible and will only use them with permission of the character owner. (If you want to submit your character for use in investigations feel free to PM me with a short bio.)

6. As an addition to the above rule, to prevent someone from knowing if there villain is the main villain of the investigation, I will always ask for a costume file, a bio capable of fitting the MA character creator, a list of crimes and a screenshot of said character for their profile in Bluedarky's files.

8. If a decision about how to proceed is not made in a reasonable amount of time, I will post to indicate a decision needs to be made soon. If a decision is not made by 24 hours after the post, the most popular choice will be used.

7. Have fun.

Game Rules

1. To begin an investigation, I will post a mission name and ID for the mission editor. At least one person must go through and post the clues up in the thread before I will begin supplying the assistance you may need to complete the mission.

2. As I said above, if it can be found in a mission, I won't tell you. I also won't tell you if you've got all the clues from the mission.

3. If I have pulled a mission from the investigation in progress down and you wish to replay it to find any missing clues, simply express the wish on the board and I will republish and post the new mission ID for you.

4. Not all clues will be necessary to complete the investigation, others may be red herrings.

5. Assistance will be rendered in one of three forms,

Madam Victim and LOCA will analyse evidence for anything technologically or scientifically based.

Temperature Sprite will investigate evidence for magic and can translate most languages.

Bluedarky will provide any information he deems both relevant and helpful. He will not allow you to view files he sees as irrelevant unless you can prove their relevance. He will also deal with any legally tricky situations your investigations may place you in.

6. The maximum amount of necessary missions an investigation will be completed in is 5. The minimum amount of necessary missions is 3. Once the final clue is posted on the boards a (possibly) shortened version of the arc will be published as a single arc. (For the sake of argument, a necessary mission is one containing a major piece of evidence that the investigation cannot be completed without.)

7. Above all, have fun.

(Special note, this is not a plot to get a load of playthroughs, as I have noted I will be publishing missions up and down all the time so most of my ratings will be erased within a week of the mission going live. I know most of you don't think that I'd do this for that but I have a feeling someone will make a comment to that effect.)

One question though, does this mean that we're all working together on this trying to figure it out? Or are there "mini teams" needed?

Sounds like it'll be great anyway!

Depends on what you mean, if your talking about the discussion part, I don't mind if you all pull together to work it out or split into teams, there are no set rules on how to play. Just be aware that I will only make a mission for one of the choices you have, not all of them.

As for the missions themselves, I am working on making them solo friendly but I will give fair warning in the thread if I feel a team is recomended.

Ok, here goes.

Investigation Part 1 is uploaded and ready to play. It's Arc ID is currently 56395.

And now an apology, I actually uploaded the arc last night by accident and left a major bug in that in order to finish the mission you needed to click every glowie (25 of them, not all clues however), this has been corrected and the only necessary objective is to defeat the boss.

Again, I'm sorry about the mistake.

So should someone now post the clues found in the mission to this thread?

Go right ahead, lets see how you guys think.

okay, i'm not sure i get it right, but after completing the mission, i should post my theories here in this thread right?

well:

15. April 2009, Vadember, Nekomimi Investigation, Personal Notes

i visited the caves.

"My contacts have also observed figures entering these new tunnels last night. But it was too dark to get any real details." - you said, right?

pretty sure, the dark figures were the cat ladies, can't say for 100% sure though, we have no idea how many players are in this game so the last night visitors might been others

now, the leader Catalina said

"Have you collapsed the cave as our leader demanded, now hand me the book." - so it would be nice to have someone dig it out, whatever they wnted to hide under the rocks

"Protect the temple from the heretics!" she also said, so it's very probable tehy buried the temple. i'd still advise to dig it out, simply becouse the cats want it otherwise

"All will join us." - now by that i hardly think he meant just an invite into their organization. they didnt look complately human, so my guess would be that they wanna turn people into whatever they are...

"And those who do not join, will be killed." ..or kill us.

"All you can do will be for naught when our leader finds out what you have done." - this could be a problem...

there were some other clues too:

Collar:
[ QUOTE ]
You found this collar in the cave, it is of the same style the Nekomimi wore.

[/ QUOTE ]

can't make much out of it yet.. cats wears collars? might be some connection with the turning thing. maybe it will be helpful later

Map:
[ QUOTE ]
This map almost crackles as you unroll it, it appears to be a map of a forest from almost 10,000 years ago.

[/ QUOTE ]

map of something. might be interresting to check it out

Orb and Bone
[ QUOTE ]
The glass orb is very pretty, it almost sparkles when you look at it. Looking closely you can see a swirling mist inside. As a good measure you decide to take the bones as well.

[/ QUOTE ]

no idea here, the specialist might say something smart about them later

The Book:
[ QUOTE ]
Catalina was carrying this book when you defeated her, it appears to be in a language you cannot understand and bound in a material you do not recognise.

[/ QUOTE ]

seems like it was needed for whatever they wanted to do (turning?) might be nice to know whats in it

sidenote: temple, ancient book, creepy orb, bones. smells like magic.

things to do:

- show orb and bones to Temperature Sprite he might have an idea about them.
- show Book to Temperature Sprite, have him translate it. if there's some rital written in it, have him work out countermeasures
- show map to Temperature Sprite, he might know something about it. after that decide, if the place worth visiting, have someone visit it.
- have someone dig temple(?) out, have Temperature Sprite examine it
- have someone ask around cat-like heroes/heroines. show them collar, they might have an idea about it. try to locate leader
- involve a tracker. cats like to mark their stuffs. there might be some scent left on the clues. have trakcer track them
- once, had everyone do something, drink beer, watch TV

sidenote: all clues but the book were just lying around. book is important. they need it. keep it secured.
sidenote: that's a helluva lots of things to do. have Bluedarky involve more people, possibly one more magic expert

Hey, Temperature Sprite here,

The orb is a temporal bomb, from the amount of chrono gas inside I'd estimate it advances time for 10 feet by 10,000 years. The bones are most likely that of a Nekomimi who got too close but that's not my area. They probably used them to collapse the tunnels.

The book is in ancient Nekoian, the cat tribes used to use it to mark trees, notice how the individual letters look like claw markings. It will take time to translate as the various symbols have different contexts depending on different things. Not least of which is which hand the symbols were made with. As for the material that covers it, not a clue. It may contain spells as I can detect a small amount of magic in it, but it's main focus won't be spells.

The map is genuine and carries only residual magic as expected by being 10,000 years old. More than that I can't tell you.

Bluedarky: I'll have a team to attempt to dig out the temple, I tried to get someone to track the Catgirls but they were to quick for him to follow.

They also stopped marking things with scent when they adopted written language.

I don't need to show the collar to anyone, they were used by the Maestro of Mayhem a while back to turn people into catgirls. Amanda said we probably didn't get them all, they were made of a combination of magic and science and are near impossible to detect.

Do you have any ideas for suspects at all?

Posted

I must say that going to check out this Maestro of Mayhem person might be a good idea.

At the very least he should be able to tell us more about the Nekoian. I also wonder if there are some previous information about this Maestro. Come to think of it, a stupid name, what self respecting villain woulds call himself that? Beating him up a bit would be a fun diversion as well.

And who is Amanda here?

Might check those bones at a forensic lab. Are they indeed Nekoian and not human and are they 10000 year old?

Posted

hey blue, it's me, Vadember. gotta agree with grin here. that mastro boy (girl?) sure worth a check, but first we gonna need every info you can dig up on him (her?).

also while the science guys are workin on the bones, ask them to look for a way to reserve the turning process (as i understand these neko's were human right), i'd hate myself stuck with lickin' my butt. (also the whole 'joining' seems not so voulenteerely. we might turn back kitty-cats into humans.)

any ideas what the time bomb has to with it? i just cant make connection... maybe nothing... then again maybe the turning is just not their real plan, just the part of it. can you find out who used similar device before? i'd like to have a few words with him.

contact me as soon as you have anything.

oh almost forgot, do you know any good cartographer. someone who can make something out of our map? my gut wanna visit that place

We've developed a problem, the book has been stolen along with Amanda and Black Cat Neko. This provides us with a problem. Temperature Sprite still has the notes of what she translated however, so search these for clues. Madam Victim has the results from the bones and the map as well.

Right, the pages I translated read as follows. I uncovered two Catgirl artifacts and a spell from the pages.

The first artifact is the Cats Eye Emerald. It's a brilliantly cut emerald about the size of a fist. It can apparently be used to transform ordinary women into catgirls providing they have a catgirl in their family tree within 12 generations.

The second is a golden statue of Bast. The Egyptian goddess of cats. It can be used to control any cat or catgirl who views it.

And the spell enables someone to transform young women into catgirls, it takes a lot of magicial energy to cast however and can only be used by a cat or catgirl, not a human.

Hey, Madam Victim here, I managed to examine the map and the bones.

I esitmate the map, based on more permenant geographic landmarks like hills and rivers, allowing for changes over time, places it somewhere in the area of Atlas Park. Actually, the area you searched is within my estimated zone.

The bones are definately catgirl, there's a tailbone and the hip shape suggests female. Carbon dating places the bones at around 10,000 years.

I had someone run to check the cave in and bring rock samples, the rocks in the cave in are around 10,000 years older than the surrounding rocks confirming Marioko's theory that the chrono bombs were used to cause the cave in.

I also have files on Amanda, Black Cat Neko, the Maestro and some of his notes on the Nekomimi. They're located here .

Posted

I have read the files on this Maestro. So typical. I would not be in the least surprised if some of the escaped catgirls started to run amok uncontrolled.

And why turnijg all the ladies in town into catgirls? Sure I like a soft purring now and then, but arming them with sharp claws does not sound like a good idea. What is worse then a woman with PMS? Correct one with PMS and claws.

Right, first order of business now seem to be to find if somebody saw the kidnapping of Amanda and her cat. It would also be interesting to find out if these artifacts are located somewhere in our grasp. So we can steal erm, secure these.

Posted

The only witness to the kidnapping was Temperature Sprite, but she saw very little before they knocked her out. She didn't even see if they were forced to go or went by choice.

I may have located the artifacts, the Emeralds description matches one that the Family "acquired" recently, and the statuette matches one currently in the Paragon City Museum of Antiquities vaults.

Marioko's research of the book indicates that it may contain a way to permentally turn people into catgirls. So we really only have time to invesitgate one artifact before we make our move.

So where are we heading? And does anyone have any other potential suspects? I don't like this following one suspect idea. (Remember I plan to use both player and NPC villains as well as my own.)

EDIT: And for the catgirl thing, I don't know, the Maestro has kind of obsessed over them since he found out Neko could transform into one.

(yeah, vadember is a villain just for you to know. or in this case more like an anti-hero)

15. April 2009, Vadember, Nekomimi Investigation, Personal Notes

facts:

- cats in caves. turning people ->failed
- prime suspect: Maestro of Mayhem
- Maestro is depowered -> need magical power
- book needed at temple (book missing, get it back. guard temple)
- does turning need book at temple? what else turning need? ->cats obtained book, Amanda, BCN.
- possible targets emerald,statue
- cats break into lab, knock out Temperature Sprite
- stole: book, Amanda, Black Cat Neko, things they needed

why kidnap people:
- Black Cat Neko: cat, Maestro obsessed with her.
- Amanda: strong psychic (mind control? cat control?-> Bast statue)
- kidnapped at all?

suspects:

- Maestro of Mayhem, depowered, obviously needed help
- Leader Catalina mentioned (possibly Maestro)
- who helped Maestro???

others involved:
- Amanda: psychic, kind, naive->manipulatable?
- Black Cat Neko: cat, has history with Maestro, loyal to the end -> to anyone?
- Grin: hero, working for MA Investigation
- Temperature Sprite: magic expert, speak cattish

notes:
- cats need to be controlled -> uncontrolled by standard -> not working for leader (Maestro?) by standard
- emerald does turn some girls into cats -> might or might not needed for permanent turning
- only turning girls into cats -> i'm safe -> go home, watch LotR instead?

things to do:

- get relics (which one?)
- locate Amanda (telepathically? -> ask telepath! through hospital teleport? -> ask nurses!
- watch The Two Towers (extended edition)

Where are we heading? How would I know, I am not used to be on this side of investigation.

But which artifact first. With the statue one can can control cats, the whole ritual is a bit pointless without that statue. Now it is possible that Black Cat Neko can perform this ritual, however it is known that Amanda is described as a psychic powerhouse. And with the means to turn her into a catgirl the leader can then perform his ritual.Only thing is he needs to persuade her to do this and that statue would help.

Pains me to say it. But keeping the emerald out of the leaders hand sounds like the best option. Or I might run out of damsels to tie to railtracks and I surely would hate to lose such a classic move.

Right, where is my Longbow repellant spray we got a trn girl into cat artifact to secure. (Hmmm, sounds like an interesting thingamajing, wonders if it would work on the likes as Liberty Girl. I surely would like to see Statesman face when that happens. From a safe distance of course).

For the record, Grinning Spade is a self proclaimed Gentleman Adventurer. Longbow just calls him a dangerous lunatic who needs to be arrested soonest.

Sry, haven't had chance to make a post.

There is one piece of information you may need, neither Neko or Amanda would willingly serve the Maestro, they've both suffered at his hand and would probably die before they willingly served him.

Is he by any chance related to this gentleman.?

oi blue, we still don't know fer sure if the Maestro pulls the strings here. in fact all we has are just theories.
no point sitting on out [censored] i guess, let's go get that statue (uhm... we talkin about a small statue here right? like a couple inches? cos if it's a 10 feet tall 3 ton statue, i'm pretty sure it's safe wherever it is...)

Posted

As I said earlier I prefer to go after the cats eye emerald first. The statue is a thing he needs after he transforms girls into catgirls.

Without the emerald there will be no catgirls in the first place.

And no, that person is not related to me.
