Arachnos Soldier - Not for girls?

So.. I finally got my first ever villain to level 50 last night *does happy dance*

Now, I usually make female characters as being a girl i find it a little odd making blokey ones (although i do have a couple). So, anyway, first of all i made a fantastic Widow.. loved her costume, managed to get her to level 8 in a really good team..

Then i thought i'd have a go at making an Arachnos Soldier.. I got as far as the costume screen before i ran screaming. The outfit for female Soldiers IMHO is horrible! I tried different combinations.. I kept staring at her head thinking, 'She's got no hair...' I tried different body types.. It just didn't seem to work..

Is it just me that thinks they look... wrong somehow?

In the original sketches for female soldiers, they were a bit more distinct than the men (as in, you could tell) and I think they had some more platformy/heeled boots, which did look quite cool.

Longer hair in combat situation is not a good idea, too much of a liability. So thats practical sense.
The option for no helmets on soldiers would be nice. As would having the option for two armoured slots, to swop between the two.
And thematically, Arachnos soldiers are meant to be the faceless mass that will ground people down into pulp so their master can rule the world looking nice isnt as important for them as looking evil.

But i thought the idea behind them was that you were sick and tired of being a faceless minion and that was the reason you were sneaking on to the Destined Ones list? That you wanted to be noticed...

Also, the hair.. She has none whatsoever, she's as bald as a boiled egg! Guys at least get a big collar to cover up their neck a little more, whereas girls necks seem to be alot longer so the baldness is much more noticeable

Gratz on your 50

I love the game play of the AoS, but I do think the costume options are a bit of a swindle. Very little modification and you only get one. So actually looking like an AoS during the course of your career,

But then again the story arc's a bit poor IMO - you may not have done it so I'll avoid spoilers.

However poor the costume options and weak the story is, the game play is fantastic. There's a very cool chain that allows you bathe in a veritable sea of orange numbers and they are actually quite a tough character - and above all, fun to play. So I'd recommend it for that reason if nothing else.

You do get your second cossie slot at L10 so it's not too bad, and the Padded Armour costume textures allow a good approximation of the Wolf Spider uniform.
I went for an anime-style evil tomboy look for my female Bane Spider.
In the end though, if you want a female VEAT that looks good in uniform then it has to be a Widow/Fortunata.

I have more trouble with the hairless hat options than the hairless helmets. At least the helmets make sense.

Ps. Ever seen a huge bodied widow? They always make me giggle.

Posted

At least it's not a Borat mankini.

With female widows it's a good idea to keep the spider chest detail if their uniform is a pale shade, just to maintain their dignity.

Posted

Yea i'd agree, i couldn't bear to make a soldier veat. Widows are nice (want butt capes!) tho.
I'd love a helmetless option.

Tho i think it's part of the stereotypes of widows and soldiers we've been fed since CoV came. The soldiers are all male and the widows are all female.

tbh i think a male widow is equally distubing if not more...

Male widows are only disturbing because up till the release of SoA widows were female only if there had been female and male widows from the start it wouldn't have been as weird.

Actually it would. Men should not wear something that tight and shiny imo!

I love my male Night Widow Starsixshot, I love his widow costume so much ever since I rolled him he has never worn any other cossie more than a few mins as it sums him up in one. Plus his cossie is just such awesome colours like all my veats (like my neon green chrome crab Starscorponok).

Bad news for you so Sapphic

Having ones precious things squished into horrible shiney trousers is so on-trend this season.

As are pained expressions and falsetto voices.

Thanks for that Carni. I needed a laugh.

Well, canonically Wolf Spiders have never been gender-restricted. The fact that there are no in-game NPC female Wolf Spiders is simply because the devs didn't have time to put them in at the time.

A helmetless option would be pretty sweet, though.

Also, females wearing Bane/Crab armor look quite nice.

It could have been worse. I could have linked to Jareth the Goblin King from Labyrinth instead.

I think he's the unlying reason for my fear and hatred of spandex. Although if I do ever make a Widow I'm basing it on him.

I made my male widow grey with pink trim and called it Lieutenant Marwan.

The default archanos soldier look for the female is okay. Shame there was not an option to have a helmetless look , but all my other costumes for my SoA have hair , and using varients of the padded armour look she has come out okay.

My female widow looks the part tho, i think the male widows are ghastly to look at.

Pure black male widow with round helm looks no different from any other generic assassin guy. Various other color combinations pull the look off, too. It's all in the colors. Shiny skintight RED latex doesn't work for men.

Posted

And latex wouldn't be practical anyway - it'd give skin burns if you were doing to much activity - plus, it just isn't as flexible as spandex.
