M.A. excited but concerned
Making a mission on MA can take as short as 10-15 minutes.
And it seems unlikely that they would have recently more than doubled the size of the dev team if they were planning on cutting back on their output

Have they doubled the dev team just for CoH or is this for all their franchises?
Too many 50's to list here's a few you may know.
Slazenger, Area51, Area53, Area54, Erruption, Mind Plague, Thresher, Sheath, Broadside, Debt

Cut the red wire... or was it the blue.
It won't replace devs - though it may mean that they only produce really good/unique content as any old fool can produce 'normal' missions.
There may be some slight trouble finding teams at first when MA hits - but for most people that'll wear off quite quickly. Heck - we've been playing for years to play the game - why would we all stop and turn into full time designers????

Available answers seem to be:
1) Yes
2) No
3) Impossible to say until I14's actually released and we see what happens
I'll vote for (3). As I14/MA's going to roll out shortly whatever we say or predict, go with the flow.

1. Whilst you might find this imedidiately after launch, the limited number of arc slots mean that it will soon get back to the normal number of people looking for teams.
2. No.
I really should do something about this signature.

If players are busy with shorter arcs, that might give the devs time to redo a few TFs that need looking at

¡Uno!) I think that although the MA seems popular, a lot of people in-game either seem against the idea, or aren't that fussed. Also, as Praf said, the limited publishing slots will probably mean that the fad'll be over fairly soon.
¡Dos!) Iirc, NCNC does only CoH. And with the development team expanded, I doubt they'd be planning on sitting back. You also need to take into account that the MA will be designed to create missions. We can't make zones, powersets, costume pieces, and TFs of new enemies. I'm sure we won't let Avatea let the dev team slack off.

2.Does anyone else feel that the introduction of M.A is the start of making CoH self sufficent and possibly making dev s redundant.
Bringing out M.A now and for the next few issues concentrating on upgrading and adding some extra bits to it could mean no more new content from the devs.

It's exactly the other way around.
1) "Devs" are here to stay whatever happens. Just like Navy ships and cheap clocks big software projects like those never are in perfect order, - you need to support them constantly.
2) Devs would have those same tools at their disposal now, meaning that they can create content more quickly and/or easier expand staff with creative types vs coders.
3) Pros are just better at those kind of things, for a million different reasons: They have more time to do it, they did it for longer than your average amateur, they have pro support (from coders to proofreaders to internal testers) most of us don't, their content is canon by default, they don't have many restrictions players' version of MA has and would have to prevent exploits, they can create public zones as opposed to instances, and a lot, lot more.
Sure there would be dozens of arcs as good or better as the devs do. But those would be exception rather than norm, when you consider how many user-created arcs there will be in total. Devs on the other hand produce something everyone has or will play every time they try
In still other words, unless CoX folds completely, I don't see new dev's content not being there. And if it does fold, the whole discussion becomes rather moot...
I remember Posi (iirc) saying that the Devs would now be using the MA for future missions themselves as "Its a hell of a lot better than what we had!" (paraphrased)
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I wonder if the devs will be using Architect? When I listened to the audio file, they were waffling about the exciting prospect of nested events, which I don't think there's much (any?) of in the traditional content.

One of the missions added in issue 13 had a couple of chained objectives.

Absolutely not . The Dev team has been expanding over the last year, and NCNC work exclusively on CoH.
Mission Architect is a wonderful system for allowing you all to express your creativity and tell your own stories in-game, but it isn't a replacement for what the Dev team have planned for the future.

I can't say I'm worried about either of these things. Especially given we've been reassured that there's no plan at all to cut the number of devs, my feeling is actually that MA just means we'll have lots of new missions/arcs all the time, freeing up dev time for the million other things we all want in the game. For instance, if players are making more missions to help keep people amused, maybe some dev time will get used for more villain TFs, or improved hero TFs, or more new-gen zones like Faultline. The stuff players can't do.
Now, while I hope a lot of players do make missions, so there are lots of interesting new missions to play, I really doubt there will be a game-killing mass exodus to the MA. A quick flick around these and the US forums seems to show there's a good mix of people who are and aren't interested in mission creation. And will it really be any different than to when a new powerset comes out, and a lot of people run off to make a new toon with it, meaning less people are playing at higher levels? Or when a new TF comes out and a lot of people just want to run that? I remember the markets being crowded when they first came out, too... but the game survived, because those that aren't bothered still team up, and the shininess wears off after a bit.
We get a version of MA thats not quite as good as what the Devs get I think and with what they will get they'll be faster at new content.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
Evening all,
I am like the rest of you it seems eagerly awaiting MA, but I am just wondering if other people have concerns such as I do about M.A.
1. With I14 seeming to be just M.A I should imagine when it goes live hordes of people going to create there missions ( how long this process takes is unknown to me atm) what will this mean for the rest that don't want to create missions.
With player base being low now this will strech someone trying to find a team to possibly nil, will these people just leave?
2.Does anyone else feel that the introduction of M.A is the start of making CoH self sufficent and possibly making dev s redundant.
Bringing out M.A now and for the next few issues concentrating on upgrading and adding some extra bits to it could mean no more new content from the devs.
These are just a couple of things that I'm worried about.
