This is why I don't bother with the annual events much anymore. All I did at Christmas was the new ski run and didn't bother running Snaptooth at all... I won't bother with the valentine one either.
@FloatingFatMan
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
See now that is very poor.

We were not able to schedule in a live update to this event this year, so please plan accordingly with mains and alts to enjoy the event as you desire.

(With respect) Why was there no time to schedule a live update?, something different for the Valentines Event this year?, NorCal has had a whole year to come up with something new! .
...oh, and btw "We've been working on Issue updates is not going to cut it".
See I'm all for supporting CoX, (nigh on 48 Months on the most expensive tariff-plan on-purpose) and as such I hope I've earnt a little bit of Moan-Time when occasionally NorCal/NCsoft try to pull the wool over subscribers eyes. This Laissez-faire attitude taken again this year with running the same old event has got to stop or else we'll be losing subscribers to the shiney competition.

Are you kidding me?, In effect; "you haven't the event on your alts so it is not entirely old?" kinda attitude - did I just read that right?
[EDIT]: oh, and btw NCsoft, If you have nothing more to pad out event feature notes - may I suggest Its probably not the best time to try and flog the wedding pack. Its kind of insulting...not that was your intention of course.
I moan because I care. Poor show guys,... Poor show.
During my 40/41 months ere iv only been able to team for this last year (VERY poor computer ) so now i can finally do the valentines mission. For me its a new event, yay for crappy computers! ^_^
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
If they had done new stuff for Valanties, it would have had to be tested.
the test server has been frantically busy trying to clear the decks so issue 14 can be tested.
Having a valantine event would have pushed back the resolution of issue 13 issues (i.e. chat bug) and hence pushed back issue 14, and issue 15, which is tightly shedualed to co-inside with the 5th aniversary.
I really should do something about this signature.

I understand what you're saying Praf68, but as you know these things aren't dreamt up, built and tested in the fortnight before the event goes live. If you are going to run annual events and market them to your subscribers, Time should of been put aside a year ahead to concept, build and test said new feature alongside ongoing Issue updates.
There really is no excuse for it, and as a subscriber I hold them to a monthly fee of £8.99 for good events alongside Issue updates.
Weren't these events originally crowd pullers?
I remember when the valentines event and other events where given first class advertising across the net ( emails and gaming site articles ) now it's just a popup box ingame stating someone wants me in pocket D....
No live update.....no advertising..not even an email or notification detailing what it is or when it would start?
As for partaking in the event...no thanks been there...done that I don't need a rerun of the seem thing every year.
I agree with ML. They carped on about how the Dev team was greatly increased last year, since then we've seen fewer Issues per year and now rehashed events. Seems the more devs they add the slower they get.
A "Kill Baby New Year for getting lost somewhere in the tunnels all those times" mish would be nice for example
If they had the choice between working on Issue 14 and doing more for the valentines day then I know what I would choose. The valentines event always seemed a bit extraneous anyway.
I dont think the Devs have been sitting on their hands for the last few months. Hopefully they have been working hard to add things to the game that will be permanent features, rather than things that are only active for 2-3 weeks out of the year.

Originally, yes.
But only whilst it remains novel.
Unless you can afford the time to develop a lot of new stuff, it becomes impossible to keep fresh. Even with the new ski slope and IOs the winter event felt stale this year.
And if you do a completly new event every year, then you are spending a lot of developer time on stuff that is only available for 2 weeks, then disapears.
It's better to celibrate different events each yera. This year the 5th aniversary will be the big bang.
I really should do something about this signature.

NorCal are the developers, a 'Choice' doesn't come into it.
If new event feature updates were planned ahead like they should be and time put aside they could do both.
In the words of the wise old green one "do or do not - there is no try".

Only by doing smaller/less frequent issues, or by having more people (and hence increasing the cost of the game).

Maybe some Valentine-y missions would be nice. Stopping Valentine's chocolates laced with behaviour altering drugs from leaving a factory, a mission to rescue a guy's ring from some thugs so he can propose to his girlfriend, stopping the Carnies from attacking a Valentine's Day Ball (complete with partygoers all dressed up and classical music).
PVP Missions in Instanced city zones to stop villains from wrecking displays at shops and breaking up the people celebrating the day, and a PVE version too... or heading to the isles to try and spread some love there.

I'm sorry, but none of these mission ideas gets me jumping up and down with excitement.
If they have time to do those, I would rather they used the time to create interesting missions, averting alien invasions and evil plots, and put them in an issue.
I really should do something about this signature.
I'd be inclined to hand out the chocolates filled with behaviour altering drugs to be honest.
Or sell them at the Skyway Troll Raves
"Troll really love you man"
"Ok, you've had enough"
Well personally I think the last minute splitting, re-development and finessing of Issues 13/14 probably didn't help but I must disagree Praf, the current size of the Dev team is enough to handle updates to events and Issue updates in my opinion - It is glaringly obvious it has just not been planned ahead, otherwise we'll have a redname along shortly on the US forums to say how new features were scheduled for this year - list them and say sorry but finessing Architect got in the way, whereas personally I suspect no updates were ever in-place for this years Valentines event.

Hmmm, yeah, I wouldn't actually recommend that strategy when the competition hits, otherwise NCSoft may find subscribers deciding to 'do-not' when it comes to bothering with this title anymore.
I'd rather play out some love story either with another player or a npc of your choise. And once the story is done the chars would do some hug or kiss pose so you can get some screenshots

No, they probably realsed a long time ago that they wouldn't be able to fit in anything new for Valantine 2009. Nothing was dropped because nothing was ever planned.

World changing events don't happen on that kind of shedual in real life, why should events have to happen at those times in a game?
I really should do something about this signature.
What I personally think would be better would be to have two events for each of the holidays, and alternate between them, so one year you get the current valentine event, and next year you get something else, then the year after, back to this one.
At least it'd make them get stale a bit slower...

i totally agree, but now, the only extras being produced are the paid for bonus packs. this was inevitable, and an obvious policy shift from NCSoft. i fully expect that issues will go the same way.

My point exactly, I doubt anything ever was planned, the point is... why?, Because with the size of the Dev team they could of done something new if they had put aside time to do it!, even if its a variation on the current event.
Look, the Christmas event addition of the tobaggan run happened, I'll give credit where credits due, but I get the feeling that for the few short weeks these events run the Dev team is beginning to think its barely worth the effort development man power-wise to do this event update-content - just drag out the same old event year after year. This year packaged as 'The Spring Fling' co-advertising the Wedding Pack.

I sincerely hope not, I am trying to give NCsoft the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the events, but those of us who have subscribed for over one year will no doubt start to recognise re-hashed content, and there is the argument that It does more harm than good in the eyes of subscribers.
My fear is that Architect (albeit a player-requested feature) will have a negative effect on the amount of NorCal created new Taskforces and missions both Red-side and Blue-side, because there could be this underlying ethos felt or quoted of "You make the content with The Mission Architect" (said in the same way as Robocop's "You pick the heart!") .
I pray with every fibre of my being this doesn't make NorCal lazier.
Just logged in on Coin, been sent to see Ganymede in Pocket D.
Has the Valentines event gone live? I can't see anything anywhere about it??
