60 month reward, travel powers at level 6

This is why you can't pick VRs from a pool. Everyone would take this at 3 months.
[/ QUOTE ]
I actually don't see a problem with this considering that you can get the jetpack from level 6 anyway.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because evertyone would whine that all the other VRs where not up to scratch.

And? Let them!

Posi himself confirms, no more prerequisites for tier 3 travel pool powers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oooh, slightly more interesting so. It'd be fairly useful to some of my flyers and TPers in that form alright, freeing up a power choice.
[/ QUOTE ]
Indeed! Some might argue that this goes against the vein of vet powers, which are to give you something nice, but that doesn't give you an advantage in the game. Well, I suppose this IS true BUT, I feel that a 5 year milestone is DESERVING of something that gives you an advantage, even if it's small, and I don't see that one exception to this rule will set any precedents either.
[/ QUOTE ]i can't see the advantage you really get when you can get Temporary 30 Day Jetpack , you could agrue that you got to pay for this and powers are free, but if i get this i don't lose 2 power slot for travel

Yes, and that's the advantage. You're saving on a power pick which you can use for a combat power instead. That's definitely an advantage, especially as the jetpacks you can get, even the pay for one, are un-slottable, so are stuck at base speeds.

Interesting, although NorCal do seem to be bending the rule-set they gave themselves over the Veteran awards/Micro-transaction packs which was that they would not give anyone a competitive edge.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wasn't that Cryptic/NC rather than NorCal that said that originally? Has NorCal re-iterated the position?
My 1st thought on seeing this reward was actually to wonder if it heralds a change that can be obtained by non-Vet players - in much the same way that Vets got wings before the general populace (and ones that are still unique).
Maybe in a few months time the booster packs that allow 30 days of teleport/superspeed/superjump (at 3 slot SO-enhanced levels) will hit the shelves for a very reasonable price - effectively making it that non-60 month vets can purchase use of any of the travel powers but Vets can get them easily at level 6 with no extra cost.

That's basically it. You get another power of your choice early on. It's not really any different than getting a jet pack from a bank mission and respecting at a later level, it's just more convenient.

[/ QUOTE ]have you ever crossed it with jump pack?
plus as stated in another thread, you have ourboroso tp, base tp, gather the team and mission tp.....i don't think i need to worry about speed anytime soon as i can easy skip areas to get to where needed.....if it was stamina well that be a different matter
Looks nice, long time away from getting it but I don't mind.

Yes. 30 second speed boost.. Whoo!
It's still slower than being slotted.

Ourobouros - Gotta be level 25
Base TP - Gotta be in an SG in your lowbie toon
Pocket D TP - Gotta buy it
Assemble the team - Doesn't get YOU to the mission, does it?
Mission TP - Gotta buy it
Travel powers at level 6 - Really useful for people, especially those who don't LIKE flying so don't want the jetpack!

Not only can you use the Jump Pack to boost you to the speed cap (and with hasten you can have the Jump Pack up fairly frequently) you can also increase the speed of tem jet packs by sltting fly speed enhancers into Swift and similar powers.
I wouldn't buy one though, they are easy to get for free.
I really should do something about this signature.

That's kind of my point actually. It's not an advantage because its too easy to get around by other methods.
Maybe in the mid to late teans you will see an advantage but I usually find I am running out of stamina if I use to many powers at once so the extra slot can only be a little benefit.

So freeing up an extra power slot can help go towards getting stamina - which can often be a painful 3 powerpicks to get?

Well, not really. You still need to get health after a certain level and stamina is still level 20.

Never been for me
Swift at 6, Health at 14, Stamina at 20!
Been pushing away travel powers to the late 20's since over a year back now. The Raptor Pack and Zero-G always last at least into the mid-high 30's.
The biggest advantage i see in this, i actually being able to skip pre-req power you don't want. And odds are now i might actually pick some travels i often don't use.

Presumably you'd still need to pick 2 powers from the pools for the teir 4 power?

Well, nothing has been said about teir 4 as yet so we would have to assume so I think. Although, I seam to remember that devs are very bad at setting flags in this game so there might be a bug in there somewhere.
Ate, the way in which i read it was that the dev's just removed the requirement for the travel power alone... and that the Tier 4 power still had the requirement of 2 previous and level 20

or to 50 if you are cautious!
This'll be great for any solo characters I have that want to take teleport - no more wasted power pick on tp foe or recall friend.

Union 50's: Chimera Obscura, Diet Anthracite, Grim Proctologist, Puny Little Minion, Raging Bitumen

Darn - so whirlwind, team fly and team TP are still going to be just as hard to get...

That assumes the hypothetical pool system would only have one pool. It could have multiple pools and this could be in the (e.g.) yearly pool. Or some rewards could count as two rewards. Etc., etc. This isn't a reason for not having a pool system.
This reward is a good illustration of the problem of not having a pool system though. This is a nice reward. New players might like it. They're unlikely to ever get it, unless there's an alternative means of getting it.

Might be nice to have a pool system.
Leave the awards at their current levels. When you get to a vet award point you can either take the award due or save a "Vet Merit".
Vet Merits can be used ti buy any vet award you don't have thats at you current vet level or lower
OR
2 can be used to buy an award thats 3, 6 , 9 or 12 months ahead of you
3 Can be used to buy an award thats 15, 18 , 21 or 24 months ahead of you
4 Can be used to buy an award thats 27, 30 , 33 or 36 months ahead of you
5 Can be used to buy an award thats 39, 42 , 45 or 48 months ahead of you
Thus to get this fancy 60 month award as a new player you'd have to save for 4 vet periods (so you're a 12 month vet) and could then buy the 60 month award with your 4 Vet Merits as its 48 months in the future.

If it was all pool powers it'd be overpowered alright (imagine... *drools*), but for just travel powers it seems reasonable enough.
Certainly less OPed than the Vet attacks IMO, for some builds they remain fairly excellent all the way to 50.
