Some issue 14 details

We've looked into it before. We don't have the number of animations and/or FX we'd need to be able to just quickly create a full, 9 power, Dual Pistols set for Players. It's one of those things that's on “the list”, but it's not something that we can just copy/paste a few things and be done.

Issue 14 is pretty much just the Mission Architect (and maybe a handful of other yet unannounced things). I say ‘just’, but it's probably the most expansive new feature going into any issue update. Sadly, most of it is extensive under the hood work, so I'm sure when it comes out everyone will still say "What? This is it? What have you guys been doing all this time!"

To answer that, we're (those of us not working directly on the MA) working a lot of things for Issues 15 & 16, upcoming booster packs, Spring/Anniversary events, Veteran rewards, etc.

Oh, and we’ll probably nerf Regen again…just for fun. (kidding)

Looks like its confirmed that i14 is purely MA with a few QOL changes thrown in if you ask me.

Oh yeah link is HERE

You're reading WAY too much into what BaB said if you infer all the other stuff is just going to be QoL changes. Sure, it's going to be light on a LOT of other stuff, but there will be other stuff beyond just QoL changes and bug fixes.

As BaB said, people are going to say "WTH!?", that's to be expected because they don't bother to consider the massive amount of work that's gone in to the MA. People not interested in that are going to complain, which isn't too surprising in this modern culture of instant gratification. Well, you know what? There have been issues released that have held zero for ME, yet I've not complained about it.

Free issues are just that, free. You don't get to complain about stuff that's free.

oooooo i aint complaining trust me, the MA alone is enough to keep me entertained for the next few years easily. Was just pointing out that we shouldnt really be hoping for new powersets/tfs/zones in i14.

Zone revamps/more pvp changes/a few more arcs etc sure but i always consider them as QOL changes unlike major additions to the game like a new zone.

Sorry, I was being more general rather than saying you yourself, Damz.

Agreed

Personally, I would love to see Dual Pistols added to the game, but I don't want it to be done in a half [censored] way. I loved the wya they did Dual Blade, with the follow on additions depending on which power chain you did. Something like that for pistols/guns etc where you can get different effects for where/what you shoot would be brilliant.

As for MA. I personally can't wait to see what it's like, I'm really looking forward to trying all the new content that the players come up with and also having a bash with it myself.

But no, I'm not explecting a lot extra with Issue 14, haven't been since they announced they were splitting them aprt for the last issue. I reckon that issue 15 will be MASSIVE though, as it's going to be the 5th anniversary of the game, so I think, from a marketing to current players perspective, they will save all the major stuff for that.

I really get this gut feeling they are keeping something big hidden from us, something that's not been mentioned by the devs, the mods, etc. Something that will make people go "woooaahhhhhh!!!!"

Anyway, I'm still loving this game so I'll keep on playing

I couldn't care less what other bells and whistles get packed in with the MA. I just want to know when it will go to open beta so I can give it a darn good testing!

Or at least an idea of what it can and can't do so I can start working on ideas that won't turn out to be impossible.

Oh they are. It's called a paid for expansion with new AT's, zones, game mechanics, power customization, graphics upgrade...

Of course, I can't really give you details of what and when, as then I'd have to shoot you, and that wouldn't be very nice.

Its also pretty important to remember that i14 is really i13 continued.

And that the proper i14 is now i15

When BaBs says Sadly, most of it is extensive under the hood work he doesn't state that it's all just under-the-hood for MA either... could be laying groundwork for changes (e.g. engine updates) in future issues...

I think the MA is eough for that Issue tbh, tho I'll be waiting for Issue 15 personally tho I do like what they are doing with the MA.

And thats the thing that I think is killing issues off. How much time and effort is put into making booster packs that have some cossies, new power, and some emotes in?

Because the booster packs are paid for there must be more internal emphasis on creating these as oposed to putting in lots of effort now with Issues.

As FFM said Issues are free but booster packs make money. I would prefer a whole lot of effort with issues and include the booster packs with the issues and charge a fiver for the issue

In most development situations with a diverse range of disciplines - such as games development - you will frequently find that a member or two of staff are left waiting for someone else to complete required work before they can move on. This leaves them time to work on other, non-required, tasks ... such as, for example, producing materials for the booster packs.

I can say that almost certainly the booster pack development has negligible impact on development of new issues. Rather, they are the product of efficient use of 'downtime' periods in work schedules.

Ok fair doos.

I would have thought with all the known and outstanding bugs though there would be very little downtime?

Well I know I'm going to be taking a break from the game some point early this year if they could just arrange for I15 to be there when I come back I'd much apreciate it. I think I just got a buzz when they started moving the powersets around and I'm still waiting for some combinations. I wait on the surprise of new zones or zone revamps but my past experience with the NWN designed modules has put me off the MA already (you spend more time looking for something worthwhile to do than you do actually playing). I know some people are really looking forward to the MA so I don't mind that there's nothing for me in I14. Except if anyone of them were the same people that moaned about the lack of hero content in Issue 7 when the CoV level cap got raised. Those people I begrudge hope and happiness and I can only pray they're disapointed

They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.

Eight legs, one body, silk,

Well, that all depends on the developer, doesn't it? Someone like Jay can't exactly fix something like the tell bug, can he? So he might as well design some more costume pieces instead...

Different problems, different skills; for example JLove, the costume designmeister, won't be a lot of use when it comes to delving into the inter-toon communication system to work out why tells have gone wonky.

So he might as well get on and make us something pretty for a booster pack, while the people who get their hands dirty in the code are busy on the essentials.

Edit: FFM, get out of my head!
