Rather curious about this but how many people would prefer that the dev's forgo an issue for an entire graphics overhaul? or even a new paid expansion?

[/ QUOTE ]

Lets expand on that:
Would people PAY for an entire graphic overhaul? Say the amount a new game would cost? If the gameplay would not be altered but the graphics got a big boost?

[/ QUOTE ]

I would.

You would? £30 for just a graphics overhaul?

I'd pay up to £14.99 for a graphics overhaul. Up to £30 if extra game mechanics are added.

Such a graphics overhaul would HAVE to include improved character models though.

I'd be happy to pay up to £9.99 for a graphics overhaul and I'd grudgingly pay up to £14.99 for one. And yes, I agree on it needing to include improved character models.

Extra game mechanics are certainly worth more.

Depends on whether my machine will run it or not. If so, then yeah, probably.

Nah. It's not worth it....

Just kidding. Hell yeah. Apart from my mortgage, NCSoft is fast becoming my biggest expenditure.

People are underestimating a side effect of overhauling the graphics properly - Being able to market the game "as new" again. Old players get a tasty treat, and a proper influx of players, due to the game being "new" again.

If the marketing people play their cards right with a new box release aswell, i think this could easily double the amount of players, especially if they time it right around the CO/DCUO releases.

Hey!

Someones been paying attention to what I've been saying, they're saving up the good stuff for just after the launch of CO/DCUO.

Could well be the case, but not sure if CoX, overhaul included, would be too effective if marketed as "new" being 5 years old, a CoX 2 would make more sense for that idea imho.

Capes and wings serve no purpose - one or two players seem to like them though

If the paid expansion was primarily a graphics update I'd not buy it.

Better graphics should be free and part and parcel of the subscription fee.

More content I'd pay for.

I would and i would most likely pay up to £20 for it too.
Perhaps the dev's would release it on disk with all the issues up to 13 on it as well, so that way it would warrant it actually being on a disk.

It would also give people the option of an upgrade to graphics, so if they just wanted to play the game as it is they wouldn't need to buy the new disk. while people who do, like new comers would get treated to the shiney new graphics as well as all the issues in hardcopy form.

As has been said, the game is FULL of things which serve no purpose other than aesthetics. Perhaps we should remove all of those too? That'll be all emotes, costumes, capes, colours, char names, decorative bases...

[/ QUOTE ]

Consider me suitable chastised :P but if there going to include walk have it be more than a emote emotes are fine for waving and posing but walking as a emote seems like a waist when it could also do something.

Yes provided it would run on my PC then yup i would definitely pay for a graphics update like FFM if that update also overhauled other stuff i would pay more.

I've suggested in the past that a Walk should be a power like Sprint, but that it suppresses ALL combat powers, so that BaB doesn't have to do a gazillion new animations. Have it disable on attack. If they added a small stealth component to it too, and disabled travel powers, it'd become functional as well as aesthetic.

But walking is good for your waist! will at least reduce it some. Can't be having tubby heroes, can we?

Did the EVE graphics upgrade cost players?

Well of course it wouldn't since there's minimal work involved with upgrading the graphics of space ships, which have little if none animation

I don't expect this GFX upgrade to be chargable, tbh. Until we get told, anything else is just speculation, and debating over it, a tad moot.

I for one would be completly ok with paying for a boxed upgrade with GFX overhaul... a few extra's... and all the issues on disc.

- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

Would a graphics overhaul bring me back to CoX? Maybe. I've picked up a different MMO, a fantasy offering that was recently launched. I tried going back to CoX for the Halloween event and found but the relatively poor graphics and strictly limited game play (target enemy, hit follow if melee, cycle attacks) were too much of a cardboard banquet for my tastes.

Imagine drinking muddy, cloudy water all your life, then drinking a clear glass fresh from a mountain spring - this is the experience I have had.

Paying for a graphics upgrade pack is a two-sided coin - on the one hand what is it compared to what you've spent on subscription over the year(s), on the other - why should you fork over yet more money. I would pay if I were still playing, but I'm lucky to have a good, fulltime job.

I do not think it is *worth* a graphics overhaul for CoX - it is a game in it's Autumn stage of life. The impending release of a mission editor only confirms this for me. I would rather see energy put into a new MMO, an evolution of both the IP and the team behind it.

Something different - a single persistent server with a meta plot that percolates down to all levels of the game and moves at a slightly-faster-than-glacial pace for instance. Rather than relying on limited linear powersets offer players domains which they could develop in a number of directions (e.g. Domain: Flame - I can develop sweet burny melee powers and become a Human Torch, fire themed buffs/healing, shoop-da-whoop, or a mix of the above). Build in decent, functional PvP or the ability to switch sides from the start. There's so much that can be done within the broad genre of Heroes and Villains going from a clean state.
