Zortel had this idea that one of her characters would get a Union Jack version of Liberty Girl's costume done for my character Nitoichi, kind of as a joke. So, Dan (Libby's owner) did a sketch of Ni in her Union Jack costume and Libby in her US Patriot costume. Ni's on the left.

This I would kill to see implemented in game.

Well there was a union jack cape that the players could use in I#10 closed beta.... Alas it was a bug, it should only have been appicable to 1 in game "baddie"

I was confused by PRAF's post. I'm confused by that one.

What powers are there that are 'more associated with spandex heroes' that are missing? I mean, the majority of golden age heroes were some basic variant on Superman.

[/ QUOTE ]

I was refering to this post below. I'm with you on this, I was just trying to clear things up... Fail!

I do understand what you are saying but I feel there are "spandex" (and therefore more superheor relevant) powers missing when pretty much all the weapon based ones I can think of are covered.

Perhaps some placeable mannequins with your costumes on them, stored for posterity and maybe even making use of the costume save/load feature

[/ QUOTE ]

I get the feeling the cossie load/save will be for use with I#14. Though as it's a file presumably I can copy it to my wifes machine and we can look identical easily.

Wonder how long it'll be before theres an offline editor like the one the Koreans had.

This is what I was asking. I'm just wondering what powers the person you were referring to was referring to.

Maybe not from NCsoft, but theres a lot of players who can code, I doubt it'll be never

well , FIFTH would appear to be a slip of the start of fifth column but that would be a bit too obvious and is most likely exactly the conclusion players are expected to jump to.

my question would be , what other groups are there that are currently divided into 4 factions ?

or, Rikti , rikti traditionalist, peacebringer , warshade = 4 alien types. the 5th to appear was the shivan was it ?

[/ QUOTE ]

You make a good point.

Positron is reknowned for left-fielding us and giving us false-flags.

It could simply be a new Fifth Signature Enemy (depending on how you count the existing ones - watch people list 'em ) or it could be something very unrelated.

However, there was a common cry to "bring back the Fifth Collumn" which they did but not in any great measure.

Or... a Fifth Environment... Space Station? Under Water?

Of course, if they merged CoX with LotRO, we could have a whole new foe to combat, the Fifth Gollum /em getcoat

You don't get it. If a player actually produced such a device, NCW would be pretty much obliged to shut them down and sue them for breach of copyright.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they shouldn't put in more non-weapon melee power sets, but too criticise a game for having too many choices (sets you are not in any way obligated to take) is a bit weird.

[/ QUOTE ]
Too many of one sector - not enough of a more relevant sector - That's my complaint

[/ QUOTE ]

Your complaint tho makes no sense what your basically saying is in your opinion there's to many power sets that use weapons and not enough that use flashy effects. But you seem to be missing rather huge point up until recently a mace was a mace you couldn't make it into something else it was just a mace, while energy melee could be anything from glow generated by your super high tech power fists to the physical manifestation of your chi so there had to be multiple weapon sets just so they could represent those few heroes that wield some form of weapon there had to be a sword set and a mace set and a axe set all there doing now is finishing of those sets by giving them a suitably matching secondary in the form of shields but there also giving the player to create that captain America inspired character. I'm quite sure we'll see more sets soon (i know i have my hart set on a radiation melee / armour set) but it takes time to develop a set.

As a side note a short probably incomplete list of heroes and villains that use/have used weapons

Thor - War hammer
Valkyrie - sword and spear
beta ray bill - Hammer/mace type thing
Wrecker - Crowbar
Thunderball - ball on chain
Vandal Savage - Has used a variety of weapons over the years
Ra's al Ghul - Depicted several times wielding a sword
Zorro - Sword

and I'm sure there's more. Something i would like to see the Devs do is dive more into weapons we have the basics but lets see more fantisful weapons things like ray/plasma/photon guns (vaugly touched on by robotics MM) the witch blade, soul blade/caliber, even the electric hammer that was suggested in one of the poles basically weapons that would grant a mere mortal powers

To be fair such threats aren't really much of a deterrent if some one wanted to do it just look at movie and software piracy.

But for something that's very niche there's little point and it would never receive official recognition in the same way mids (or similar has) so would possible be viewed as pointless.

Taskmaster: Anything

[/ QUOTE ]Goddamnit, now I want a Photographic Reflexes powerset that allows you to copy and memorize powers that have been recently used against you. Taskmaster kicks butt.

Also, while the hint is way too, ahem, "subtle", and Positron gets a kick out of teasing people with things like this, there have been countless hints (and wants) for the 5th Column to return. Who's to say Requiem doesn't have some plans of more epic proportions than we could ever have guessed, that he's been working on behind the scenes all this time?

Of course, I'm biased, so feel free to disregard what I say.

Posted

well Requiem is a nictus so its entirly posable that his plans or the plans of those he truly serves go far beyond those of the original fith colume.

Also the Shivans are only fragments of a far greater creature maybe thell finally manage to pull there self more togeather (shivan GM maybe?)

But i find it hard to conect the Shivans (fragments of some kind of world devouring creature) to the nictus the nictus seemingly want to controll the earth but Shiva seemingly just wanted to eat the earth

I really do hope the 5th Column are making a major comeback; to me they always seemed to have more style as bad guys than the Council.

But there the same as the 5th just differnt names and costumes.

I think what we will get is a 5th invasion to mark the 5th year of the game but i doubt very much that will be it the coming storm will be i hope something different.

[/ QUOTE ]

Whilst I am not the one quoted, I think it was me who used the phrase originally (i think), so allow me to defend my self from the pedants!

By "spandex" powers I meant the types of powers that would be suitable for the stereotypical spandex-clad superhero that the average bloke on the street would think of. It was of course a massively sweeping generalisation and there are plenty of exceptions that I am well aware of. I was just trying to illustrate a divide between the types of heroes one sees in this game. It was merely a device to illustrate a point rather than a cast iron category of powers.

NB. I made no reference to Golden, Silver, or any other colour of Age of comics. I did however make reference to X-Men, and it probably is fair to say, based on the nature of the X-Men that weapons are in the minority (Bishop, Gambit and Forge being the ones that spring to mind).

Anyway, I have derailed this thread enough. Back to speculation and thoughts on I15.

For myself, I am interested to see that they are trying to get 3 issues out in around 5 months. Ambitious perhaps. But, at the moment, I am not actually playing CoH (WoW has actually managed to make a class that appeals to me (new enhancement shamans not DeathKnights for those interested)) and I think it would take something special to pull me back as things stand. I had played the game for around 3 years by the time i moved pretty much permanently to WoW and it seems to be due to a feeling of having seen everything in game already. Now I'm aware that new arcs and powersets are being added in i13, and i probably will have a quick glance at them but it just feels much of the same.

Maybe the MA will draw my attention for longer. Beyond that there would have to be something special to pull me back properly (although I'n still subbed so it doesnt really matter in terms of revenue for NCsoft )

Excuse me, but what additional "spandex" costumes do we need? We have dull spandex and shiny spandex, spandex with skirts, spandex with capes, cut away spandex, and lots of different patterns - what else can you do with spandex that we haven't already got?

Yeah - we've got the right clothes, just need the hair to go with them now
