Issue 15 will be centered around the Fifth...
Exaggerated for effect & an inability to think of S&S power sets on the spot (give me time and I'll edit the post if you like) - But you must still see the point I'm making?
[ QUOTE ]
So would you say having the option of being able to dress your elf in spandex but you didn't have would enhance the immersive S&S nature of a game like WoW?
have have to
[/ QUOTE ]
Frankly that's a stupid analogy. WoW exists in a world where only sword an sorcery exists. Spandex wouldn't and couldn't exist there. The CoH universe is far more varied and allows for a much more varied type of hero. There is space for the Rambo character, the Jean Grey-like toon and Merlin to all co-exist in the same team. This is purely a city of Heroes after all.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they shouldn't put in more non-weapon melee powersets, but too criticise a game for having too many choices (sets you are not in any way obligated to take) is a bit weird. That said, i'd play a street fighting set for sure!
And no, I don't think my comment can be used to legitmise an Accountancy powerset. Whilst weapons can be used to fight crime, a in depth knowledge of UK accounting systems will only get you as far as investigating fraud. Trust me, I'm an Accountant. ;-)

Other than Thor I don't recall too many "Mace" superheroes and I can't think of any mainstream battle axe wielding superheroes.
I do understand what you are saying but I feel there are "spandex" (and therefore more superheor relevant) powers missing when pretty much all the weapon based ones I can think of are covered.
Now I know many of them are possible/are too hard but I think the number of weapon based sets are a)lazy, easy wins & b) (and you will never convince me otherwise) more appropraite to a S&S based game
To a limited degree, yes, but it's not as though people that want "regular" "hit 'em hard" heroes are completely stuck for powersets. There's SS and MA for the out and out punchy types, and DM, Fire, etc... for those that want to be hitty with a bit more flavour.
Plus, we got shields this time because the player base said that was the set they wanted most - the devs aren't exactly railroading us here.

Too many of one sector - not enough of a more relevant sector - That's my complaint

Blitz Kreig!
(Literally: Lightning War a concept developed by the British army in the 1920s as a reaction to the static trench-warfare of the Great War - it was designed to offer high maneoverability and mobility. The British soon discarded the idea in favour of more traditional tactics, but the Wehrmacht took up the idea, although curiously it was an American journalist who coined the phrase "Blitz Kreig" in 1939.)
It does fit!

This would be a valid point if we were only allowed to recreate existing comic book heroes. Just because there aren't many weapon based heroes within the literature doesn't make those players who have character ideas that involve those powersets any less valid. I, for one, have Mace, BS and Axe toons but still haven't thought of an interesting character idea for an Martial Arts scrapper despite the number of them in the literature.

I want nunchucks, staves (its good enough for gambit), spears, brass knuckles etc etc. There are plenty of melee weapon sets that could still be added.
Plenty of non-weapon sets too, don't get me wrong!
But this game's universe does welcome magic based characters. Whilst their traditional home is WoW type games they still fit in here.
To b honest, that's what's nice about the character creation here, if you can justify it in your bio, it's legitimate!

I'm sure i heard that line in a movie somewhere, didnt work out too well for the guy they said it too
Also i think you have to think about the practicalities of some powers. Maybe the game engine doesnt allow for some powers from the comics to work so they've used some weapons to fill in the gaps.
I for one would love a water power, preferably on the Blaster AT. i15 should be going Underwater! With the game engine changes i've heard about surely they can do that now.
The above is only my opinion, please don't hate me for it

I understand that. And whilst i feel for you that there aren't enough powersets that appeal to you, to complain that there are too many other powerses that appeal to other ppl is unfair on those that play them!

We've had packs based on getting married, cyborgs, soon magic, and also norse mythology. Could we pretty please have a pack based around Silver/Golden Age supers? Maybe some giant Death Ray's to deal with, or better yet, a proper giant monster stomping through the city streets and towering over the buildings!

This pls

I really hope theyr not the coming storm. Maybe a small sector of it sure, but the main force? Highly doubt it.
Would be a HUGE let down for me personally if the powerfull new enemy is a group that couldnt even defeat the council . . . . .
Then again im expecting an entire new enemy group to be the coming storm so i guess any existing mobs ingame would be a dissapointment (unless its reflections/rularuu).

I would rather the coming storm was new group and not something we have seen before, but my bet is it wont be more like it will be a re work of an old group maybe the fith or even a new rikti faction.
Would be nice though if they did do a new group maybe something along the lines of a new race of aliens that have killed of the rikti and followed the last few to paragon.

As cool as that would be, kinda makes the RWZ a bit defunct unless it had a MAJOR radical change. The story though most of all.
And I fully the support the b-movie golden age style! Post on suggestions forum dude and I'll give it so much /signed

Won't happen. RWZ just got a major overhaul. It'll be a long time before it gets any attention. Boomtown and Eden need more work first

Plus arent we fighting the coming storm in the future/past so it wont affect out present world?

Excuse me, but what additional "spandex" costumes do we need? We have dull spandex and shiny spandex, spandex with skirts, spandex with capes, cut away spandex, and lots of different patterns - what else can you do with spandex that we haven't already got?
I really should do something about this signature.
well , FIFTH would appear to be a slip of the start of fifth column but that would be a bit too obvious and is most likely exactly the conclusion players are expected to jump to.
my question would be , what other groups are there that are currently divided into 4 factions ?
or, Rikti , rikti traditionalist, peacebringer , warshade = 4 alien types. the 5th to appear was the shivan was it ?
Well the shivans are already confirmed to be the scouts of the coming storm in the ouroboros introduction arc so i presume theyr some sort of enemy faction in the storm too.

Too contrived.
There have been rumours that the Fifth Column are coming back, both in-game and outside it since Cimerora was brought in. Possibly Ouroboros too. They seem a more likely immediate threat than the Storm thing, which appears to begin showing with the crashlanding of a meteorite in Atlas Park in the not too distant future.
Of course, your overall point that the 'Fifth' may simply be a suggestion put there to throw the players off is perfectly valid. However, an Issue devoted entirely to the Fifth Anniversary of the game seems like it would go down about as well as I14 is so far doing.

I don't think they meant spandex as in the costume but super powers that were more associated with 'spandex' super heroes of the golden age.

I was confused by PRAF's post. I'm confused by that one.
What powers are there that are 'more associated with spandex heroes' that are missing? I mean, the majority of golden age heroes were some basic variant on Superman.

Shivans are not confirmed as the scouts of the Coming Storm. The Shivans are merely confirmed as having attacked Atlas at some point in the future.
Mender Silos already has zero credibility even without his proclamations about some sort of Coming Storm being explicitly thrown into doubt in the very missions Ouroboros sends you on during the initiation. There is, in fact, no evidence that Ouroboros itself is not the Storm.

Well, I didn't actually say more costume pieces... However, some more patterns would be nice... flags especially, as would putting your chest logo on your cape as well.
Some more objects for bases would also be good... Perhaps some placeable mannequins with your costumes on them, stored for posterity and maybe even making use of the costume save/load feature so you can keep a library of more than 5 costumes you can just select from.

They could put an wet towel or an accountancy power set in and your comments would still be as relevant to that as they are to weapons.

As a good number of mainstream superheroes do use weapons in combat, but (AFAIK) absolutely zero use wet towels or accountancy, I'd have to say you're utterly wrong there.
