Which would be consistent with the Quarter 1 release intention that we've been given previously.

So... i15 will be centered around the Fifth... And previous rumours had i15 continuing the story of the Coming Storm.... Are the Fifth the Coming Storm maybe?

Poop, I was hoping it would be Rulaaru, including a Shadow Shard make over and having it made available to villains.

Oh well ... the 5th is nice too.

NCsoft is stressing what makes City of Heroes different. First, it's a superhero game, not sword and sorcery. If players are really looking for something different, they can find it here.

Super Booster II will be a magic-themed pack that will sit alongside the Cyborg pack very well. It will have costume pieces and other goodies that are themed for both stage magicians as well as your more traditional fantasy mages.

[/ QUOTE ]

Had to post that, just seemed kind of ironic that one minute there saying there different from all that, then they go release a pack to promote the exact opposite?

Also if its not swords and sorcery, why release the past few issues weapon customisation and shields followed by this booster?

Im not saying its all swords and sorcery but theres definately been a lot more work in that area lately.

The booster pack isn't a promotion, it's a...booster pack. If Issue 15 was going to be elves and orcs, there'd be a point in there.

Yes, because the superhero genre doesn't use weapons and shields and magic! not ever!

True, but I think the proportion of weapons based powers sets in CoH is massively disproportionate to the number of characters using them in the various superhero comic book canons. Especialy for heroes (as opposed to villains).

For scrappers it's 37.5%
For Tanks it's 33.33%

All the other AT's are ranged so for the purposes of this exercise (I.e.hand held weapons. Which is what I feel the OP principly feels is incongruent with a superhero genre game).

Do we really think that 35% (the combined total) - more than one in three - comic book melee based superheroes use hand held weapons.
I think not....

Conversely do we think that 35% or more of S&S heroes do?....

I know what I think (and have for some time)

just because there are that many powersets does not mean that 35% of all heroes actually use those sets.

The point being, if you don't want to play a weapon based (non "super" if you will) hero, you don't have to. The choice is there for you to make. It's nice for a game to give you such options.

and 1/4 of the travel options are SS, you telling me that 1/4 of the comic book heroes use SS?

It doesn't work like that. You need to look a the Melee comic heroes and see if their powers are catered for. If they are then there are enough sets available.

We've had packs based on getting married, cyborgs, soon magic, and also norse mythology. Could we pretty please have a pack based around Silver/Golden Age supers? Maybe some giant Death Ray's to deal with, or better yet, a proper giant monster stomping through the city streets and towering over the buildings!

Exactly.

Now, my own personal opinion is that i would like a few more spandex hero type superpowers. But that's because I was brought up on a diet of X-Men and when I started playing the game I pretty much equated heroes to that type of character. But I'm well aware that there are plenty of players that want more natural based powersets (dual pistols anyone?). You cant please everyone all of the time, and there are always going to be powersets that people want added whether they be weapon based, magic based, or more "traditional" superpowers.

Oh, by mixing "normal" powersets with powersets that may be more at home in X-Men or whatever, you can easily create a character that will be at home in that context whilst still wielding a weapon (for example).

Yeeeeessss......

So would you say having the option of being able to dress your elf in spandex but you didn't have would enhance the immersive S&S nature of a game like WoW?

There are many more "non-supers" that [u]don't[u] use melee weapons than do.

Personally, I'd have preferred they had introduced a "street fighting" power set (for a top of my head example) than Dual Blades.

I don't disagree that it's nice to have the widest possible selection of powers but I do feel that handheld weaponry is less congruent to the genre than many other options and is disproportionately represented as potential options.

They could put an “wet towel” or an “accountancy” power set in and your comments would still be as relevant to that as they are to weapons.

No this would only have relevance to my point if there were only say 2 travel powers or there were 8 and 4 of them were "Tiger", "Unicorn", "Dragon" or "Horse"
