NCSoft Q3 Report
[ QUOTE ]
Taken from a US Post, Q3 figures for CoH. Sales are however up, probably due to microtransactions.
[ QUOTE ]
See this page for details. COH is down to 124,939 accounts accessing monthly, with 13,443 maximum accounts online at the same time. That's the second lowest amount of monthly accesses ever posted, and not by much.
Spreadsheet with graph here.
The numbers are for September, before the advertising campaign on the web started. We'll see how well that's working in three months.
Sales for COH have increased, however: 5,721KRW in Q1, 5,743KRW in Q2, 6,193KRW in Q3 (8% of all NCsoft sales); that's a 6% increase QoQ and a 8% increase YoY; content updates and promotion are given as reasons for the growth here, though microtransactions most likely had something to do with it.

Seems to indicate that there are fewer people about but those about are buying things like the Cyborg pack etc.
The most striking thing to me is the drop in Monthly Access, which sorta reflects how I am at the mo, still paying subs but not actually connecting that much recently
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh well thats a blow to the "more people than ever playing / numbers aint down" brigade.
I think that may be the between issue drop, which is probably harsher due to the huge gap between the issues this time (yes I know there was a patch for qol)
Zhaan, Chakyra, Fiorina 161, Aeryn, Polly Nation, Dee Pression, Shazanne, Night Jester and too many more to mention.

Issues are often just a 'extra' to give people interest again, little actualy is done about the gameplay itself (city of Farm, city of Solo).
Along with people leaving 'lesser populated' servers and not continue on other servers might cause an additional drop. (the first posts about low population on def/union are from july i believe). Take the 'big cut' of a month ago, another possible reason.

It's a blow to those who insist on screeching the game is dying as well, tbh. 125k monthly users is a considerable number.

You don't see anything wrong with the fact its (a) its over a 10% drop and (b) the lowest figure ever for joint USA & EU?

Nope, wrong, subscribers do not equal players, and non playing subscribers eventually stop being subscribers.

It's not the lowest figure ever montly access wise but it is for highest concurrent users.

Sep-2008 13,443 124,939 15
504 in difference...so we're not quite there just yet.

Was the game released in the EU in Dec 2004? I thought it was April 2005 when the EU started.
*Edit : In fact the Number of Servers figure indicates I'm right (11 US, 15 US & EU).
*Does the anti-pedant dance*
ah yes...my bad, you said EU and US, well then I conceed it is the lowest figure ever.

I did conceed the point and yowza...that is a massive tailoff over 10k subscribers seem to have gone in the space of a few months.

Beta wouldn't count in terms of #connections though, look at the #Servers cited in Dec 2004.
In any case it's not a very nice figure really, and it's most likely down to the gap between issues.
It'd be nice to have some EU only figures as well.

Wouldn't it be a bit of masochism?
I guess if they were good, we'd have them

It's a bit odd really, considering that the EU and US servers until recently were controlled by 2 separate companies.

It does say Access, so surely that would mean people who logged onto the game, as opposed to just being number of accounts?

Well if the 1st column is accounts and the 2nd is the times those accounts accessed the game, they are both at an all time low i think.
Reading that again, 1st column might be users on at one time, god knows, both figures are a good bit down on the period before though aint they.
December '05 FTW!

[/ QUOTE ]
Looks to me like the first column is the highest number of users online at one time for that month, and the second is the total number of times users logged on that month. However, they are both at their lowest (barring the dec 2004 figure).
reads to me as time period, concurrent user peaks, total number of subscribers.
from those numbers, i would say the need to do what war have done and allow controlled server migration really with the concurrent numbers of users listed their we shouldn't need many more than 7 servers, never mind 15.

CoH does allow "controlled" server migration. They just have been charging you for the privilage....
No wonder total sales are up

Yet, avarage per server has thus dropped alot.
(as there are 4 more servers, yet equal ammount of players).
Likewise, if they would merge thise 15 servers into (lets say) 8 servers, suddenly most servers will be rather alive and very well populated.
So relative seeing, its below dec '04.
