Reminds me of all the fuss over Longbow being a "private army", with a "set uniform". Let's just overlook Supergroups for a moment...

[/ QUOTE ]

I doubt even the largest SG can match Longbow for size and combined power. And the city did not call upon the SGs to police the streets, they got Longbow in, a private organisation, rather than what should have happened in that situation which is that the National Guard should be patrolling the streets.

I don't really care that they have a uniform. I kind of care that they are there to handle a threat (Arachnos, not the Rikti) which has never materialised and they have never been stood down.

Was there ever a convincing in-game reason for planting Longbow all over the place? Or a OOC game reason for that matter?

[/ QUOTE ]

Tha National Guard could handle Hellions and Skulls, but not Arachnos.
And as for the lack of a threat, perhaps the fact that Arachnos have so far only managed to get footholds in Siren's Call and Faultline is proof that Longbow are actually doing their job, and containing Arachnos?

I don't understand the objections to Blue Steel. The situation is unrealistic in that he didn't immediately kill the Clockwork King at the earliest opportunity anyway.

The man had already murdered a police officer with his little toys, and engaged the raid team with the intention to kill. And they did, three more police died. If he had been caught up to by any member of the police force, he would have been shot dead on sight. No if, no but, dead. Blue Steel should have rammed the edge of his shield into that mans neck at his earliest possible chance, and gone to lunch with a conscience like a baby. The Clockwork King is a cold blooded murderer and used lethal force to evade justice, he's lucky the SWAT team didn't give him a decidedly more fatal 5.56mm enema.

But he was, and now is, a police officer. And they don't play funny suckers with criminals trying to murder them. You so much as point a gun at police, let alone fire at them, you get immediately put down. And if they don't there's pointy questions asked about why you risked yours and maybe someone elses life hesitating.

His only recourse for self torment on the subject would be that he battered the King to pseudo death in a fit of rage, instead of quickly and cleanly breaking his damn neck the moment he caught up to him. If Blue Steel went around with a gun there wouldn't even be a problem, he could have quite happily gunned down the Clockwork King and be hailed a hero. For some reason, having to get more personal about it is just plain naughty.

Yeah well in my world the Joker would be very, very dead. Notice how my world is better off than yours. About a four figure kill count better off.

One where I'm alive, he's dead, and he's buried under 200 tons of whatever I can get on top of him to make sure.

To kill the Joker you need to bludgeon in his head repeatedly, then bury him under a rock, and make sure it's a big rock.

That is making the assumption that the National Guard in our lovelly parallel world is the same as that here. Unlikely. While I, personally, would not give them water pistols, I should imagine the NG there have access to some fairly hairy equipment. And it's better to have a branch of the government on your streets than a private paramilitary organisation.

[/ QUOTE ]

Also unlikely. Their placement is restricted to core areas of the city which would require Arachnos to overrun several outlying sectors in order to get to them. They may well be doing their job in Siren's Call, but that still does not explain their placement in the core sectors with no presence in the regions most likely to be the next targets, Steel Canyon and Skyway.

Shhh! You can't bring fact like that into it! The Clockwork King was an innocent old man and Blue was a massive bully! You have to accept this, regardless of how police are trained to deal with deadly threats!

Pull a gun? You get shot.

Pull a knife? You get shot.

Attack with deadly intent? You're getting shot.

Rampage across Paragon destroying buildings, harming civilians and killing cops? Oop, you're good to go. Just be an old man behind it all and we'll demonise the guys who stop you.

Whatever powersets Blue Steel is going to have (most have guessed at Shield Melee/Shield Defence), please give him Thunder Kick from MA's powerset. It's the closest thing to a roundhouse kick there is, haha.

Also, have him in a storyline with Clockwork King and Penelope Yin.

There is no Shield Melee. I would have him a Shield/SS tanker, but MA/Shield scrapper would be second choice.

I think you're missing my fundamental point. Sure, somebody pulls a gun and police should be empowered to open fire and if the suspect dies in the process, so be it. But then do not kick said suspect unconcious. Render them harmless, give them appropriate medical treatment and then put them through the proper judicial process. If said suspect is then found guilty, punish accordingly.

To my mind, one benchmark of a civilised society is how it deals with criminals. To sanction wanton brutality is not acceptable (even in a game.)

Your opinion differs I guess, and you're entitled, but I just can't accept your PoV

I like there is a 'Hero' that can be hated by Villains not for his Blue Side alignment, but because he's closer to a Villain but gets the rewards and status of a Hero.

I agree with you Scarlet - BS acted against his position and the established background's society, but isn't that good storytelling? That there's at least one crooked Hero we know about? That the world isn't a two-dimensional plane cut between 'goodie' and 'baddie'?

To me that makes the true Heroes especially noble.

They have - the ones who were there a few months ago are the ones you now see in Faultline, Siren's Call, Bloody Bay, Warburg, Recluse's Victory and the Rogue Isles, and the ones who are in Atlas Park and Galaxy City right now are a fresh broup of recruits

The issue with Blue Steel isn't the violence - I'd have little problem if Clockwork King had been killed resisting arrest. It's that once the man now known as the Clockwork King was subdued then Blue Steel proceeded to commit attempted murder.

And as for Longbow, try playing the villains training mission... They really show their true colours there.
