Frank perched atop a floodlight mast of the new ballpark, slapping the side of his helmet as he tried to rattle his battered helmet comms into life. Being pulled from the rubble of the collapsed office block was embarrassing enough. Being pulled out by a giant lime jelly was just plain bizarre.
"Holy sh...Charlie! Charlie?" There was no answer. "This whole situation is about to go to hell in handbasket if them capes don't do this right..." he mumbled.
He hadn't been touched by the purple light, and he was too high to see anything through the mist. He was hoping the situation wouldn't get any worse before he could take the panel off his boot and take a look at those fizzing circuits. Nevertheless, he worked as fast as he could...
Fanservice gawked at her doppelgänger, her mind so thrown she fell on the one thing she was currently completely certain.
"Oh! You are SO breaking a trademark"
The gas rose like an ominous tower of murk. Commander Union's effort had caused it spiral up into a vortex, thus keeping it from spreading across the city. However Union had to keep up a tremendous speed and it had taken its toll on him. No other heroes had attempted to help him and he simply could not maintain his speed. His flight began to dip and he circled lower and lower around the cloud. He desperately tried to fight off exhaustion but it was fight he was losing. He was beginning to slow down. The gas cloud slowly began to consume him as he spiraled closer and closer to the ground.
He collided with the ground at more than 250 miles per hour. The impact was tremendous, kicking up large amounts of dirt and debris. A normal person would've been vapourised, but not Union. His power came from his mutation - an incredibly dense molecular structure. This afforded him titanic physical strength and the durability to withstand a cruise missile.
The viscous murk slowly drifted over the crater left by Unions impact. After a few minutes a hand emerged, clawing its way out of the hole. Union was still conscious. He heaved himself up over the caters cusp before collapsing of exhaustion.
The gas drifted over him like a malevolent spectre. His eyes opened wearily. He saw a shape in the fog, a humanoid shape. The shape moved towards him slowly. Someone was coming to help him, he thought. The shape moved closer and Union could make out colours. Red and blue. Definitely a hero. He then caught sight of the emblem on the figure's chest. A stylised golden eagle much like his own - no, exactly like his own. He watched carefully as the figure approached him. He saw its face - he saw his own face.

What the hell are you? asked Saffron, regaining her senses. The clone made no attempt to communicate, it simply regarded her with a look in curiosity. Shed never been in a first contact situation before, she had no idea if there was protocol or some other way to go about it, no-one in Vanguard had ever spoken to her about it.
What do you want? she tried again, closing the gap between the two of them. The similarity was uncanny, from the scratches and burns over her jacket, her green eyes, right down to the myriad of freckles that covered her face. She could see that the orange light in its forehead was a flickering, dancing glow, akin to a firefly. When the clone didnt respond, she tried a different approach. She reached out her hand as if to say hello.
The clone suddenly struck out, thrusting its fist forward. Saffron momentarily recognised the vibration coming from the thing as her own when she was suddenly repelled backwards as the creatures fist struck. She was bowled over, but recovered quickly only to suddenly be hit with a sonic wave. She spun, ignoring the pain of being struck with her own rhythm and replied with a similarly pitched note. It struck the creature, obviously causing it pain. She ducked sideways, before it could recover and hid behind one of the parked police cars. This thing not only looked like her, it fought like her too. Whatever the alien device had done, it had accurately copied her appearance and her powers. Her doppelganger jumped on top of the car and blasted her with another sonic wave. Saffron scrambled to her feet, momentarily stunned before she leapt up onto the roof of the car and blasted it backwards over twenty feet. From her vantage point, she could see that the battle was joined, the clones assaulting anything they could find with powers copied from the heroes around them. Citizens ran for their lives, unable to tell which were the real heroes and which were the duplicates. And all the while, the meteor sat, pumping out more of the noxious green gas.

Wandering past the group of heroes the Shivan stood there...looking about, possibly standing out a bit too much for his own liking but there wasn't much option when deciding who or what to strike first since neither side had struck him yet.
Hearing the sound of a fight going off Steve lumbered through the crowd towards the group of clones, some confused citizens not sure whether to flee away from him and back into the fray or carry on going the way they were so they stood their mouths agape at the sight of the cybernetically enhanced Shivan.
Steve had heard Union crash to the ground but could not see through the murk, thinking it another meteor he lumbered over, seeing the hero alright he looked up to the clone, things were about to go from an interesting detour to a possible fight.

A real showstopper!
Nightseye was almost passing out. The gas really did a number on her senses. Then she heard the voice of her goddess in her head... "Relax Falin... rely on our jump skills!"
Without hasitating Nightseye jumped as high and fast as she could. Not really looking where se was going... as long as it was away from the gas. She never even saw the figure emerging from the green clouds that so much resembled her physique.
Her jump brought her a good bit away too... but not directing it she landed fully on Saffron hitting her hard enough to drop her to the ground. Or was it Saffron?! She had a weird red glow on her head.
"Couch, couch... I am ok Amber... I hope I didn't hit you too hard."

Storm Sapphire caught the energy infused punch right on the cheek and stumbled back, bringing a hand up to rub his jaw. "That... was uncalled for." He grunted, before leveling a jab at the clone's stomach. As his fist connected, a blast of light sent it flighting back, followed by several further blasts striking out at it.
Flipping mid-flight, the doppleganger spread his arms back with clenching fists as shields burst into light around him, absorbing the blasts. With an impassive expression, its body soon flared with light as it shifted. Flesh turned to energy as its form morphed into the powerfully muscled and armour plated shape of a White Dwarf, clawed hands balling up.
"This is going to hurt, Michael..." His Kheldian warned as the ethereal beast charged, a powerful smite sending the police officer hurtling upwards. With a flash of light and a distortion of space, it began to chase Michael, knocking him further into the air with each blow. Strike after strike knocked the officer up, until with pure determination and will his forearms swelled with light, and a push up located him directly above the next teleportation point.
"Good, but you're no Storm Sapphire!" Michael spat, bringing down his bunched together fists on the beasts head, sending it plummeting to the rooftops. "Mess with the law, and the law messes with you, and Stranger? I AM THE LAW!"
A blast of light engulphed Michael as he assumed his dwarf form and hurtled straight down after his clone, a pair of plated feet cracking the very ground and air with cosmic energies as they connected. The metal roofing of the abandoned warehouse they fell upon giving way and sending them into the bowels.
Flashes of blue-white light flickered and glimpsed out of the windows as the pair fell to battle.
Bill readily parried the Billclone 's first swing , and he sent a swirling riposte towards the clones head , only to be met by a sweeping parry ...
Bill's brain chugged at the problem.... so he is me , as fast as skilled , I.e. not a lot , armed with a energy sword that can cut a fully armoured rikti trooper in half with a good blow ..... ok plan B
Bill started to retreat , blocking and parrying like mad , his plan simple , to draw the Billclone out of the green cloud , in to the open , and then call on the PPD and the other heroes to bring it down , and hopefully keep it down ...
".. err A little help here please ! , he , errr it is rather good with that sword ...
Tower of Power ended his acting and forcefully pushed the pillar from it's place, sending a "the sooner the better!" over his SG comm.
Taking hold of the pillar at the base, held high above his head he walks towards the field of vapour.
Aiming for his double he leans the pillar back slightly before swinging it forwards with a yell of "Timber!"
Hoping to take out his double and several other clones, but knowing that would be very lucky.
The Double of Tower of Power braced himself and caught the decending pillar, though it breaks apart and slams into the ground for the most part, one part held up by the blue muscle bound hulk.

Steven grabbed the knife-armed thug by the scruff of his shirt and slammed him into the brick wall to his left with an irritated curse. Why was it whenever he wanted to get anywhere in a hurry do the gang members come out of the woodwork?
Pausing, Steven glanced behind him at the groaning forms of what had 10 seconds ago been a pack of would-be-muggers and flashed a tight smile at the slightly shellshocked woman still clutching her handbag numbly as she stared at him.
"Dangerous neighbourhood miss, best be getting home hmm?"
Turning he resumed his sprint towards the cloud of dust rising from the impact site.

The clone of The Amber Banshee rounded on Nightseye, screaming a well pitched note at her. The clone, although fighting, did not seem enraged or angry but instead maintained the same patient face that Saffron did whilst blasting her opponents.

Totally flabbergasted Nightseye rode the shockwave in a huge backflip landing on her hands and feet.
"Amber... Saffron... It's me. You know me."
This was not good. If she had to fight the Amber Banshee she was very vulnerable to her sonics. Ready do dodge the next blast she looked around getting her bearings.
She saw several heroes fighting what looked an aweful lot like duplicates. Then Amber flexed her vocal cords again. A high narrow blast sending towards Nightseye. She dodge it with ease and in the corner of her eye she could see the blast shatter a tree.

Metaphyte narrowly dodged a streak of vines that shot out of the ground.
"So you're not a friend, then." she said, seemingly satisfied with the conclusion.
"Your loss." she grinned, extending her hand, as the vines that made up her outfit, and thusly, her doubles, suddenly grew and formed into long tendrils, entangling her opponent.
"Stick around" she grinned, then turned to the meteor.
"That needs to go."
The clone, not responding to Nightseyes protests, continued its assault. Screaming in various tones attuned to the felines personal rhythm, it did not seem the remotest bit interested in communicating with her.
If Feline was confused already, it probably didnt help when seconds later, the real Amber Banshee appeared, blasting the imposter with sound waves. Momentarily distracted, the clone soon recovered, hitting Saffron with a perfectly pitched note that sent her reeling, the world swimming as she hit the floor.
Freed from the assault, the clone turned back on Nightseye, calmly returning to a neat pattern of blasts designed to bring the feline woman down.

Annie's doppleganger flew after her. Annie sent a massive wind swirling out around her. If cleared the air of the mist and she could see several hero's fighting dopplegangers of their own.
Suddenly with an immense pull Annie fell to the ground. She felt as though gravity itself were crushing her. She looked up to see her doppleganger, arm outstretched.
"So you have my appearance and my abilities! If you're looking for a fight, you've got one." Annie opened up a small rift. It produced a heavy lampost and propelled it toward the doppleganger. It hit the replica in the head.

VGX-3 scanners had picked up the sudden out brust of fighting, and had given it every bit of data it could from them. It's energy cannon which now were inplace of it's hands slowly charged up ready to fire at the first moment, but suddenly it's visor flashed up with "Warning! Energy blast incoming." as it turned it's upper body half around to the direction of the blast it hit, a beam of charged energy, bright blue in colour, landed straight on its rear side area sending the machine skidding backwards on it's feet, leaving a track of the them in the ground behind it. There slowly marching toward VGX-3 was it's own clone, at least it looked like it but something was right, it couldn't be a machine it had life sign readings, or so VGX-3 scanners told it.
In reply to the beam blast, VGX-3 sent off it's own blast back at the clone, impacting it, and as with it's own blast sending the clone backwards a few feet, like it had done to him. The clone reacted the same like VGX-3 and steady it's self before aiming up for another blast wave, VGX-3 however used it's combat systems to traget the clone's shoulder joints, if it was the clone of the suit the weakspot would be easy to hit.
VGX-3 quickly sent off a barrage of quick fire energy blasts hopeing to hit the shoulder panels and disable the targeting senors that were there.
The lamp-post hit Annies clone with resounding force, striking the orange glow dead centre. The clone reeled for a second, unable to control itself as the orange glow flickered as if trying to hold onto consciousness. And then it blinked and dissipated into nothing.
Without the glow, the doppelganger fell lifelessly to the floor, devoid of any life signs. The fall would probably have broken the bones of a human but when the body hit the floor it exploded into a shower of green fluid, as if it was returning to a less solid version of the gas. The viscous gunk flew everywhere, redecorating the front of a building and showering a reporter who was trying to get the scoop on other, less adventurous journalists. In amongst the puddle on the floor, it was just possible to glimpse distorted green internal organs before they melted away back into green mush.

Steve wheeled about, seeing the clone attacking Nightseye...through the murk two piercing beams of radiation fizzled through it, aiming to hit the cloned Amber Banshee in the back.
Steve had found a target and this one he was going for...lumbering towards the clone on the car.

A real showstopper!
With the gravity field gone, Annie was free to move again.
"Go for the head." Annie's shout was muffled and she realised she still had tissue in her ears. She pulled out the tissue. "Hit the glow." She shouted louder so hopefully someone would hear her.
She headed toward the nearest hero fighting themselves. She peered closer and it took a moment but there it was, the orange glow. She opened up the rift again and this time threw a filing cabinet at the dopplegangers head.
((I will leave it open as to who's doppleganger the cabinet hits.))

The mysterious doppelganger reached down and gripped Commander Union by the hair, hoisting him up with effortless ease. It reared its fist back and drove it with full force into Unions jaw. The impact of the punch was enough to break a building in half. Union was knocked back several hundred meters and vanished in the mist.
The Union clone turned slowly and spotted the nearby Steve. It watched as the shivan lumbered toward the clone of Amber Banshee. With puposeful strides the Union clone marched toward Steve, priming its fist for a mighty blow. The Union clone got within two feet of Steve. It reared back it fist.
Like bolt of red and blue lighting Commander Union, the real Commander Union, hurtled out of the murk and tackled the clone to the ground like a freight train. He began pounding his fists into the clones face. Each punch causing the clones head to become deeper buried into the dirt. The clone glared back at Union, utterly expressionless. It drove its fist into Unions stomach, sending him up into the air. The clone was on its feet before Union landed.
It had stepped forward to continue it's assault when it was interrupted by a filing cabinet colliding with its shoulder. The clone was unfazed but appeared to be aggravated somewhat. It turned toward the source of the flying object and spotted Annie. The Union clone glared at Annie through mists as it began its march toward her.

Annie remained calm as the powerful clone headed her way. One hit from this clone and she would be hospitalised.
She could not open up another rift yet. Opening too many could cause a permenant one. Instead she increased the gravity around the clone trying to slow it down.

Leave her alone! came a loud voice from Steves side.
Striding through the mist, Brian Mackenzie appeared. Just over a month ago, he had been one of the Hamidons hideous Greater Devoureds. Now restored to human form and released from mind control by his daughter and The Militia, he still retained his enormous size towering over nine feet tall and almost the same again wide. He hadnt been happy when Saffron had revealed her secret life as a hero to him, he was even less happy to see her get hurt. Hed heard of these Shivans that landed along with the meteorites in Bloody Bay. This one must of gone off course. He had no idea what he was going to do with the green glowing thing but he was damned if he was going to let one touch his daughter. He barely noticed the glow from her head, figuring it must be some sort of hero thing that she was into.
You want to fight something! Fight me! he roared and launched himself at Steve.

Nightseye was still confused by the fact that there where two Amber Banshee's. But it actually made sense a bit too. Saffron would never have attacked her like that. And whomever this Amber Banshee was, was really trying to kill her.
She jumped and weaved so fast.. none of the blast hit her. And with each jump she came closer to the presumed fake Amber. Her last jump made her end behind her attacker. She kicked the legs from under the false Amber and knocked her out with a fast blow.

The clone felt the increase in gravity. It lurched under its own increasing weight, slowing, but still moving. It stopped a moment, seemingly pondering its position. It appeared to know what was happening to it. If it was gravity that was hindering the Union clone, it would defy it. The Union clone's feet left the ground and it began to hover. Now even with the localised gravity distortion the clone was still able to move with its intended speed. It floated closer to Annie, priming its fist for another devastating punch.
However, behind the clone, a caped figure rose amongst the murk. From within the darkness a voice boomed:-
"HEY! Pick on someone your own size!"

Flying several hundred feet above the devastated area around the meteorite, Richard Huntington studied the sensor reports coming through his helmet's HUD. The results were baffling, but the combat computer was too stupid to lie about something like this. There were copies of the people closest to the fallen 'rock'. Physical data seemed to match up perfectly, but the green particulate was interfering with more detailed analysis.
"Time for the traditional dramatic entrance, Helena. Plot me a safe landing zone." An instant after the words left his mouth, a top-down radar scan of the area warped his field of vision, which he quickly studied before making a choice. "There looks good..."
A tiny fraction of his concentration shifted, and the mass he allowed to interact with the universe ratcheted up to around 450 kilograms. He dropped, quite literally, like a rock, slamming into the ground with tarmac-shattering force.
Slowly standing, head swinging from side to side as if taking in every detail around him - a false impression since the combination of radar pulses, Infra-red scanners and plain old visible light receptors gave him a decent 360-degree panoramic view - and spoke, his voice artifically distorted before being broadcast by his suit's external speakers.
"Morning, Michael," he addressed the nearby Peacebringer. "Looks like it's going to be another busy day."
As he spoke, targetting data began to scroll across in front of his eyes: Angles of attack, probable movement, suggested tactical responses, ranges and a wealth of other information including pulse rates, skin temperature and epidermal refractivity, as Helena desperately tried to find a clean and easy way to differentiate between the copies and the originals.
He increased the volume on his speakers, took a deep breath, and spoke slowly and clearly. "Welcome to Paragon, whomever you are. Please state your intentions and the reasons for the duplication of people from this place. Failure to comply will result in an extreme response."
