Have hit a brick wall last 2 days when coming up with a concept for a new toon. Want to create one that will be purely pve and a good toon for a lot of taskforces/trials.

But i need your help Can anybody come up with a good AT/powersets for me? All i need is something to spark my imagination and im off but largely lacking in that field lately Just to reiterate (is that the word/spelling? ), the new toon will be used for the following:

* Large teams
* Regular tfs/trials
* ONLY PvE

Any ideas welcome, need to create one tonight! Need to do some levellin!

One of my mains will suit you I think: Mind/Emp Troller or Rad/Therm Corruptor.

AR/Energy blaster (proper guns'n'fisticuffs natural hero)

Rad/Rad def (always handy)

And if you do a Necro/dark, I'll even hand over a decent name... Casanova Funkenstein, reanimating corpses through the evil power of disco

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

Looking at your paramaters, you want an AoE heavy toon. AoE is king in big team PvE.

Given that, the most AoE you can cram in will probably be:

Scrapper: Spines/Dark (Possibly Fire/ or /Fire)
Tank: Dark/Fire (possibly Ice/)
Blaster: Fire/Fire (possibly AR/ or /Mental)
Controller: Earth (but almost anything but Grav) / Storm (but almost anything but Empath)
Defender: Anything but Empath / Rad (but almost anything but Ice)

Villain Side

Mastermind: Anything / Anything but Poison*
Corruptor: Fire or AR or Rad (avoid Ice) / Most*
Brute: Elec, Fire, BA, Mace, Stone / Fire or Dark
Stalker: Elec or Spines / Dark
Dominator: Most (probably avoid grav) / Fire or Psi

*Id think twice before getting traps too, dont work to well in large fast pace teams.

In addition, if you play a Corruptor, Mastermind, Controller, or Particularly defender, then leadership pools would be good.

Finally if you aim to be a task forcer, being a stealther and having recall freind always helps.

I'd go for any of the following

Earth/Rad Controller
Fire/DA Scrapper
Ice/DM Tanker
Fire/Mental Blaster
BS/WP Scrapper

If you want to be wanted on TFs/trials/teams then you're looking at 3 options really:

AE damage: Blaster is king here, but Corruptors scourge quite nicely too - Fire Blast is probably best primary, but Rad, Archery and AR are nice too, and the other choices aren't too bad. If you already have a L50 each side then Warshades can do immense AE damage in short bursts (after double-miring) and Crab Spiders do nicely consistent AE damage too (yes, you'll see from my sig I'm an AE-junkie) with some -res debuffing and while also buffing the team with their leadership toggles. Sure, you could do an AE-focused Brute, Tanker or Scrapper (Spines, Fire or Elec favourites), but their AEs lack the radius/range of Blasters/Corrs/WS/Crabs so you won't be killing quite as many enemies.

Debuffing: Rad Emission and Kinetics are always the ones I hear teams/trials shouting for the most, but Empathy too, and any of the mini-bubble buffing sets (Sonic/FF/Therm/Cold) are very popular as well because few play them as they're mainly team-orientated. Dark Miasma is very underrated by teams, but has a great heal, two powers that debuff -regen (good for AVs - and one of those "debuffs" is the heal and the other is the game's only AE rez), some control for normal teaming, and the most -ToHit of any set to keep your team safe (just drop Dark Servant next to the AV and stick DN on it). You could go Corruptor, Defender or Controller - but tbh, taking into account the need for AE damage, Corruptor or Defender is probably the way to go with an AE-heavy blast set as above.

Tanking: few TFs/trials like to move until they have a tank of some kind - obviously tanker is favourite, and Stone Armour is always very popular (because of Granite) on TFs/Trials, but for that reason a /Stone brute tanks very well too. Just bear in mind Willpower tanks struggle somewhat to hold area aggro (Ice Armour is best for aggro-holding I hear) - having a damage aura toggle really helps for that. Peacebringers/Warshades in dwarf can fill the tanking role in a pinch, especially against AVs, but Warshade ones in particular struggle to hold aggro against multiple targets for normal spawn tanking (Peacebringer dwarfs do have an AE attack they can make quite spammable to help with that).

Control is useful, but when you have a team that is really rolling with serious AE damage it becomes less important.

Probably the most team-friendly builds would combine two of the above aspects - a non-WP tanker or stone brute with an area damage set (Fire/Elec Melee) or a Corruptor/Defender with a solid debuff/buff/heal set plus an area-damage blast set. I wanted to level my Fire/Rad Corruptor specifically for TFs and it's perfect for them (heavy AE damage for spawns, debuffs and good single-target damage for AVs, buff/heals/rez for the team, and an awesome AE hold for when things go wrong), even moreso than my Blaster.

Psi/Psu blaster has some surprisingly good AoE. I'm pleasantly pleased with how powerful mine in atm, i can't wait until i got enough slots to have 3 dmg SOs in both my AoEs.
Only lvl 20 atm with 2dmg SOs in the cone aoe and 1dmg SO in the targetted aoe. But with build up i can take down a minion of even level with those two together. It's very nice

These are the toons I've had most fun with:

Troller: Earth/Rad or /Storm, Fire/rad (Superteam only. Can't enjoy it that much in PuGs)

Tanker: Ice/EM. I'd trade it for a Ice/Fire tho.

Scrapper: Spines/SR. Can't really enjoy any other Scrapper.

Blaster: Ice/Devices

Defender: Dark/Dark. I like Sonic/ and Emp/ too but I'd rather play them as a troller.

Khelds: Hate them.

Dom - Gravity/Thorns, Plant/Elec
Corr - Energy/Rad
Night Widow - ftw!

And hero side could do :

Defen - Empath/Psi
Troller - Illusion/Storm

My DB/WP scrapper to be one of my best general purpose toons I've created - great at early levels if you get the first two combos as soon as possible, good PBAoE/Melee Coning, strong against single targets, good survivability against large mobs (Rise to the Challenge). Doesn't always stand up to a hammering from AVs, but if the Scrapper is tanking the AV something has gone wrong with the plan. The tier9 on WP is pretty meaty and the crash is pretty light.

BS/Inv scrappers make good nutcrackers - on a large team you'll be more likely to face more bosses and AVs, and these will be your targets given you can deal and cope with burst damage.

Energy/Energy blasters are excellent artillery - mucho damage, bit of stun and knockback. Defiance 2.0 has made them even more monsterous, so sink alot of early slots into the 1-2 attacks and the cone.

The only issues you will face is ppl whinging about knockback, so if you can try and position yourself to knock mobs sideways and/or into walls, and avoid punting critters into the next mob. Also it's not so heavy on AoE (avoid Explosive Blast as it just scatters mobs), but the Nova is excellent and if you go Munitions Mastery you can end up with LRM as a nice boost to AoE.

Archery is *excellent* - highly accurate, low end, longer ranged than most blasters, with mid-to late game AoE that is pretty supreme as your tier9 is a large targeted AoE with a ludicrously fast recharge (60 seconds without slotting/hasten). I've been running it with Devices which has some nice tools early-mid game to keep mobs away (caltrops, web grenade, smoke grenade), a good Stealth toggle, Targetting Drone (just incase you want more accuracy), a recently upgraded tier9 that gives you a mobile turret with pretty good game. Post lvl-32 the following attack chain decimates mobs: Rain of Arrows (tier9 ranged AoE), Explosive Arrow (mob targeted AoE), Fistful of Arrows (Cone, shorter range than the rest of your arrows, need to close a bit).

IMO for large teams, TFs and Trials and PvE all ATs and sets work greatly.

It is more important to love your character and build an empathy with it. If you are comfortable with your sets and the way you play than you are playing with the best hero available to you.

I have an idea to build/start a team just for mastering TFs in my head for a long time. After each Task Force i started/joined i give up that idea because each set and AT have its own flavor to add fun and challange of a TF. Sure some sets are great help like Valkryst stated (i will also add a ghoster to that list tho); for example a kinetic defender makes Positron TF very easy (Speed Boost and ID + High heal potencial), a Stone Tank makes LR fight like a walk in a park etc. Are those two examples critical for a success? No way. They just make things easy but what's good about a TF if there ain't any challange.

Well that is the kind of thing i wanted, a few toons that were specified for tfs/large teams. Decided im going to have to build a couple up to get a large variety/can fill any gap. Decided so far with

1) Kinetic/elec defender (pure endurance sucker)
2) Dark/SS tank
3) Fire/fire blaster
4) ill/storm troller
5) ******* not decided yet
