Problem is, though there are considerate farmers out there, and I HAVE had a couple of polite tells asking me lately; the jerks FAR outnumber you, and they're the ones who have caused such animosity to build towards farmers. It's not nice when jerks ruin your corner of the community. We've had our share of that in RP too...

I very much appreciate your appology, and I can understand where your coming from. It annoys me that there are so many disrepectful and childish farmers. Unfortunately uber l00t does attract that kinda of crowd.
Surely though, if something annoys you so much, its best pratice to just stay away from it. Its what I try to do.

There's nothing wrong with helping farmers. My wife is happy to take on a fill request while she's standing around doing nothing in WW, or RPing, or whatever. Heck, I'd be happy to do it, too, IF my exposure to farmers so far had not consisted of all those who contact me ignoring my search comment and then ARGUING with me about it. That's not a generalisation. That's personal experience. 100% of farmers who have contacted me have ignored my search comment, and then argued with me about it.

It was probably about 75% with me before I got sick of the constant pestering. Before that I did help out the polite farmers if I was doing nothing special at the time (like standing in WW/BM), but once I agreed to help one or two of them it was like they were sharing my name around all their farmer friends and the amount of pestering I got increased drastically.
So first I changed my search comments to say I wouldn't fill (which had little effect - though I did sometimes get farmers who started out saying "I know your search comment says you don't like to fill, but could you just do me a quick favour..." - so some are reading them... and then just persisting anyway), then I started coming up with inventive excuses why I couldn't fill (such as pretending I was a newbie), then I just got tired of the constant hassle and put all of my characters on permanent hide (now just search-hide - I hate putting people on /ignore unless they're just irredeemably rude/ignorant).
But yeah - I've had loads arguing with me, or just firing back a quick nasty comment when I refused, or just pestering me every 5mins with fill requests even when I've already turned them down several times that evening, then getting shirty with me when I point that out.
Just to make this extra clear: Everyone replying in this thread is getting trolled by the OP. Honestly guys, it isn't even a very well hidden troll. I'm disappointed in you all.

Well I was responding to other forumites not the OP - if I see a post I want to reply to then I go ahead and do that, regardless of how the thread started - good things can sometimes grow out of bad beginnings.
But thanks for your valued advice anyway - but why point this out on the thread and possibly incite the OP into a flame war rather than notifying a moderator?

I don't really see why you would send a request if you're actively reading people's comments, unless you want to bother them.

i must be lucky, ive filled a few times but most of the time i just answer "NOPE" and thats the end of it, as fort farming yeh ive done it those IOs dont buy thrm selfs and as i havent got a toon that can do it on there own i would happily join a farming team, and you no what ive still never had a puple drop.
I have 4 ppl on ignore and thats in 2+ years why you would ignore someone for asking you to fill is beyond me to be honest and if you have a full ignore box i can honestly say its you that has the problem
I've never filled, but I don't get excited the odd time someone asks. I have no mention of whether I will or won't farm/fill or any other minority past time that people partake in. I make a decision on each invite at the time based on what I'm doing/ how I'm feeling at that moment. I once got mildly perturbed when I was having difficulty getting a team on my defender and the only offer I got was to fill for someone.
Fill requests seem to have changed though. I used to get a fill request followed a second later by a team invite, I never get the invite now only the request, which I personally see as no better or worse than any other tell someone sends you out of the blue.
