My answer to anyone who wants to play as scrapper is to play a scrapper.

Or build a tank with a good offense and get the best of both worlds

I actually came up against some of these problems tonight, after a few attempts to fully controll agro, only to see the blasters snipe a different group of mobs etc. I just pretty mutch went with the flow and played as a scrapper with an over-active taunt (I still managed to keep the majority of the agro even though i don't have my taunt aura yet - i did point out my lack of aura to the team at the begining) and even though we were fighting reds & purples, we were tearing through them at an increadible rate!

I guess sometimes it's just better to go with the flow and let the tanking role be shaired out a bit

[ QUOTE ]
Also I have never played WoW but is the pulling thing common there? Some guy had come over from it and said it was essential in WoW. Maybe this accounts for the influx of bored WoW bringing that dynamic?

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, from my experiance it's quite the oposite, there is no specific 'tank' or 'blaster' for example, as each of of the 9 classes has 3 'power sets' there are a couple of different classes that can perform each 'role' so a 'puller' is normaly designated at the start and pretty mutch stuck to. You also have to remember that WoW's instances are more like TF's here. WoW also seems to be dominated by people who watch their team's performance in intricate detail and repremand them if they aren't fully fulfilling their role in the team!

There are of coarse a few idiots that just do what ever they want but i think there are in every game.

Umm yea, i read that..

conclusion was that a Katana/regen scrapper did 50% more damage/time than a Inv/SS tank at level 37.

I dont object to that, but just want to point out that a katana/regen prolly does 50% more damage against any other set of scrapper as well...

I doubt that.

/Regen adds no damage (although it may allow more damage slotting due to extra +recovery, I dont think this is an issue of note since Inventions)

/Invun, with +tohit buff, would hypothetically increase damage output.

/SR, with Quickness, increases damage output.

/Dark has a damage aura which gives very significant damage output. In addition, Dark Regen has some limited damage.

So thats Secondary

Primary?

It depends entirely on the team size and the amount of AoE you have.

Low no AoE (e.g. Martial Arts) will do the most DPS in terms of single target damage, e.g. solo.

High AoE (e.g. Spines) will do the most DPS in large groups.

Katana is midway between these too.

Id like to see a Katana/Regen come even remotely close to outdamaging a Spines/Dark Scrapper in an 8 man team.

I'm not a fan of building tanks with a poor offense anyway but the difference is if you're a tank there's an expectation that you're going to manage aggro. Not a consideration if you're soloing but it is if you're in a team.

How bizaare. An unexpected tangent one might say. I understand that some people like to go the heavy offense route with a tank, and that is their perogative. But that shouldnt detract from the fact that if a team says thay need a tanker, to most people that means they need aggro control. It so i think any person would be correct in assuming that if they are "needed" they are going to actually be used for their purpose. It seems that half the time i am invited to a team under these conditions its due to the team leader being the cause of several deaths, for whatever reason, and rather then admit they are doing something wrong they insist on "needing" a tank, and therefore managing to shift the blame for these deaths when they still happen becasue of sloppy method. a tank can hold aggro and keep everyone alive, assuming that everyone is fighting the same mob and that the tank is given the time to actually taunt before some nitwit with an itchy trigger finger scatters them all over the shop.

I could have pointed that out 3 years ago myself, it doesn't mean it's no fun trying to prove it wrong though

Besides, a Fire/EM built for max offense closes the gap on scrappers a bit, handles more agro and can control agro better too

Endurance management are more than just stopping to rest to regain endurance, (which the tank had to do 3 times) it also means that you can continue to cycle you strong attacks more often as they require more endurance. If youre starting to run out, you have to wait for a low damage attack to recycle before you can attack as a filler.
This lower dps over time.

Solo, on invincible, the spawns isnt that big for this to play in. I assume the tester went from spawn to spanw finishing them off one at a time, not herding up one big group.

or a fire/fire tank for that matter...

but thats beside the point, the test was solo.. not teamed.

This was a solo test, wansn't it?

I would imagine an 8 man team with correspondingly large mobs, a Fire/Fire Tank would outdamage a MA/Regen scrapper (for instance) by virtue of the stack of AoE attacks.

The actual damage ratio for Tanks v Scrapper hould be 75%. However i believe the common concensous is that its working out about 60-65%. This is based on some current testing done on the USA boards.

So, the fire tanker has to hit two mobs during the time the MA Scrapper bashes one and he comes out ahead? Well, that's easy enough given the fact that a reasonably capable fire tanker should have by far more than two enemies grouped around him at almost any time.

The MA/SR vs Fire/Fire

is counterbalanced by the

Spines/DA vs Inv/Ice

Its the average of all sets per AT compared to another that people should be looking at.

Scrappers do more Damage per Endurance than anyone else.

TOo many people have i met who think they are awesome because they have a 50, and having teamed with them its a wonder they managed to get a toon to 50 and never learn what a tank does.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just remind yourself: "they'll still get to 50 even if they're at the debt cap the whole way"

I'm mainly playing a troller in the 20s at the moment and the thing that has surprised me is the number of tanks who don't have their aura when they're a few levels past the point they could get it. Doing a mass immob when the spawn first bunches up on the tank seems to be the only way to keep them there sometimes.

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't get me started on the problems with Tanking for new (To game or AT) players, it's a huge problem at the moment and is resulting in a lot of people who are playing their tanks like inept scrankers.

[/ QUOTE ]

Anyone who expects real tanking abilities from new players is silly.

Thats the point really - whislt Scrappers do more damage per hit, the other major factor is how many targets there are and how many AoE attacks / ST attacks the toon has.

For my own tank, its like 12,5%. Comparing that in a lvl 50 mission, my scrapper friend killed around 8 times more mobs than I did.

I think mine will be kill-wise close to 0%, damage wise not much higher. Granite's are just not build to kill (unless i want to )
