What to pick dilemma

Hey all.

I've been playing wicked little toons at defiant villain side but either they are not evil enough or I am not a villain-minded person so I've started missing hero side once again. I also want to be 50 sometime (my highest character was 30odd something)

The problem is because I was an alt-maniac I played many combinations (long time ago, before ED was in) and now I can not find a toon I want to stick with.

I need someone that is good in groups but a solo capability would be handy too as I experienced that I can't always group in CoX. Fast leveling would be a bonus (I noticed I spend too much time running after badges so it'd be a boon if he/she can get xp fast on those rare occasions when I go xp-hunting. Oh and also to skip the parts I've seen faster to get new experiences) but more importantly he/she has to be fun to play.

I am sorry I realize I am being extremely vague but do you have a suggestion (It would be very helpful if you can tell the reason also) for me?

Thanks in advance.

Dark Melee/Super Reflexes Scrapper, look no further, excellent on teams and not a bad soloer.-

Broadword/Regen or broadsword/SR high damage and good survivability to boot.

NO, go for a Claws/Regen scrapper. Easy to solo fast, and when teaming you'll be one of the last to drop!

Max will say a fire/rad troller is the best way to go, for fast xp.

But I'll also consider Tanking too.... my preference is fire as primary, with whatever secondary you want. But if you go down the fire route, take SJ as a travel power, as you will need the kb resistant (Acrobatics) power.

Main 50 & Badger Nine Claws Claws/Regen/Body

Other 50's Ph10x Brute Unjust Law Tanker Samantha Urai Scrapper Codename 1250 Scrapper
Cepheus
Defender Nilus Scrapper
Electro Field Blaster S.PONGE Tanker

or you could slot a Karma anti-KB IO.

Or he could roll a DM/SR

Have you tried playing a Electric Blaster? got one going atm and it is really great fun.

Despite GG's bias, MA is a good set. Just not as good as broadsword.

Probably BS is better than MA in teams and MA better soloist, problem is OP was too vague so he will end up being suggested almost any powerset combination available in this game and maybe one or two that are not available(emp/storm FTW)

Emp Kin Defenders rock BTW, you should pick one. or Rad Emission/Kin is also good.

Rad Emission/Dark Miasma is the ultimate debuffer. I plan to play one after my blaster.

On a serious note Nightmarer is right, DM/SR is the most fun scrapper ever. My build is different from both of Nightmarers and entirely different from the other two DM/Srs that I know. And yet all 5 work very well. DM/SR solo's and teams nicely, isn't bad in PvP and looks damned impressive

Coolest, got myself a shiny sig quote

Tbh I think it is difficult to go wrong with almost any DM/SR build because the synergy is one of the greatest in game imho.-

After seeing a lot of scrapper suggestions I checked out the scrapper guides both here and on US site last night.

It seems for AoE goodness Spine/DA is regarded as king. So far no ideas/concepts for a spine character popped in my mind so that goes..

Besides spines both MA and Claws seemed interesting. I might make a MA or a Claws scrapper hesitate because of next information.

I logged in and checked the LFT feature last night. I am not sure if you can hide yourself from it but when I made querry of each archetype I got 50odd tankers, 90odd scrappers, 60odd controllers, 40odd defenders and 80odd blasters.

When I was still playing CoH I had a blaster I could never play with because there were too many of them around and as a result I could never team with people. Could this happen also as a scrapper too as they are the majority right now?

Yes, Spines/DA is the king scrapper of AoE dmg, but it is also probably the heaviest endurance consuming set and can be quite frustrating, specially at low levels.

Dunno about teaming, I've been in many teams with two or more scrappers, but also with two or more blasters or any other AT so I fail to see the difficulty in finding teams just because there seem to be more scrappers than other AT's.-

Definately king of AoE. Even not just amongst scrappers...I've given several Fire/Kin/Fires a run for their money on mine. The bio can be a bit tricky though... personally I went with a variant on the old "A wizard did it" chestnut, involving a curse and at least two nether-dimensions.

Claws is pretty well rounded- it's really not suited for PvP with no Build Up and lack of Spike damage, but it's a steamroller in PvE once it gets going. MA is basically the all-round, single-target scrapper set.

Most scrappers can solo on invincible from very early on in their careers. I've never had much trouble finding groups on them either, though I tend to team with Coalition or Global Friendlist buddies for the most part.

My Spines/Dark began to get headhunted surprisingly regularly when he hit 50, but it was more for the fact that I had built him so he could function as a Psionic damage tanker than for any of his AoE Scrappage goodness.

You can hide yourself from the search window simply by typing "/hide". It doesn't work against Global Friends though, there's "/ghide" for that... and sometimes even that doesn't help when you're on one of your level 50s and someone gets bored soloing a low level toon (I'm looking at YOU Dis, Mr "Maaaaael, come PL meh!"!!)

I've got 2 scrapper BS/DA (50)& Claws/Regen (38). I find both great!

BS deals high damage, DA is a great secondary with fear/stun features to reduce enemies attacking. Imo, DA has the best Scrapper heal. I can go from 1hp to full with 1 click.

Claws/Regen is a great combo too, it very quick. You have ranged powers which are nice for a Scrapper. I've seen this Scrapper outlast a tank in a fight. I always have a heal ready, even when I've jusy used 1 Very survivable.

Both are great in teams and solo. I've never had a problem getting a team, because we deal such good dps. I've even had several tell asking me to join a team, when I was already in one

Tbh, you can't go far wrong with a Scrapper. A lot of teams would prefer a Scrapper for survivability over a blaster for those tough situations (nothing against blaster I've 2 of them too )

Spines/DA is extremely fun to play....but without set bonuses, it's an absolute end-hog. Its also a very late starter, get in a big team with both Death Shroud and Quills running, hit Build Up then Spine Burst....you'll never want to play another scrapper again

/sigh

I once again realized I am a dirty altoholic.

When browsing guides sometimes I see phrases like "awesome power", "fun to play", "super survive ability" and something in my mind says; "Hey tolga; you are awesome/fun/super. You SHOULD be playing this!" or other times something just "*nudge *nudge *wink *wink"s me and I get stunned with a new theme with altogether different set of AT/powers.

As a result in the last 3-4 days I've created;
Spine/DM scrapper
MA/Reg Scrapper
ice/rad controller
ill/rad controller
Storm/psy defender
Dark/psy defender
Spine/reg scrapper (was a grr hate toggles kind of spur of the moment)
Gravity/Storm controller
Ice/EM blaster

Even GvE bowed down before my altoholicness.

Things I learned up to now:
1- If you make enough new characters, at least 2 of them can fight against rikti at level 1.
2- I am gifted with a dubious sense of fashion.
3- Gamine hair style looks good.
4- So does government glasses.
5- If there was a "character creation arena" in this game I'd be in top 20 by now.

Wow – I am picking up the distinct whiff of scrapper lock with rgds to my fellow forum posters. Despite their vast experience, they are wrong . You should either pick :

1/ An Illusion / Rad – Controller, (nice pick 1damz) or…….
B/ A Sonic / Rad – Defender.

Personally I would go with the Illusion/Rad controller – probably the biggest Swiss army knife in the game, you will have the answer to every PvE question. Accept no substitutes.

one toon i have very much enjoyed recently is an illusion/storm controller. Hell of alot of fun in teams or solo, very powerful, and can take some really good IO sets boosting +50%acc on all your powers, not a lot misses

Will add my support to Katana (very quick animation times), Martial Arts though i found the attack chain slower than Katana, but I am not enjoying broadsword/invul (lvl 34atm) as it feels like a slow and painful drag.

At the end of the day everyone is different so it wont matter what AT or powers you go for as long as you can have some fun, and altitis isnt that bad

Agree with Diddy, Illusion/Storm: pure chaos control, so much fun and decent damage. I love TPing around the battlefield with Hurricane on while my army of pets scare and beat the snot out of the enemies.
