Freshly Squished
Thanks KS and everyone who turned up!
Some fantastic fights, was on the edge of my seat for most. Good Fighting to all our opponents, I think the toughest was against Psydock and Bitter Ice as we lost one on to them, played. The most annoying was Sweet Chilli and Satanic Flash as you would expect That was 1 hour long!!! (gg lads)
As for caging, yes their annoying but to keep them going constantly and to a high standard for I think 9 fights, all lasting 30 minutes to one hour long. Well done to Burning Embrace (Aftermath) for that.
Looking forward to the next one ppl!

[Edit]
If anyone had any of the matches on record PLEASE get in touch, I only for 3 of our matches and would like more content, it would be cool to make a video.

It seems a good time was had by all, shame I couldnt make it to watch.
Excellent night! Seen some high standard PvP indeed. Hope there will be one soon again and that I'll be joining in the fights myself
Thanks all for putting up good shows and for the laughs. And ofcourse thanks to KS for organising it.
P.S. The last words about caging aren't said yet
I like cages, and they are just as fair as any other power imo

The problem is that they turn fights into the best team or players winning, into who can keep someone bubbled, which is not the world's most difficult job.
This isn't intended as a jab at anyone, really, but the best players didn't win last night - some really good PvPers were beaten purely based on one power, and the abilty to use that one power over and over. While I realise it's legitimate to use any power we're given, and use it in any way we can, it led to an awful lot of slow, dull matches, and the forcing out of the tournament of people who were actually playing better fights. The fact that people got any kills when being essentially perma-caged or bubbled speaks to that. It's basically saying "we can't fight you unless we get to take you 2 vs. 1."
Again, I don't say this to flame any of those using this tactic, it is as valid as anything else, given there wasn't a rule against it and it's part of the game. My argument is against the power, not its users, really. I have a suggestion or two to pass on to KS, if he's organising another - there might be some setups that would still allow 2 vs. 2 whilst stopping this one power from becoming too good.

Don't worry Jum, I was called on to sub in for you and picked up 5 kills - wasn't enough to keep Neo going through the tournie, sadly. (But let's face it, it's more than you'd have got. )

There's really nothing difficult about clicking one essentially autohit power (anything that punches through PB'd Fort might as well be autohit) against one of two opponents every minute or so. Trying to keep your teammate ID'd and SB'd between cages after he ran out of BFs - that takes some effort. There's nothing "high-standard" about it either - if anything, it reflects badly on the rest of the tournament which displayed a VERY high level of PvP. For what was a mediocre-at-best team (in all fairness) to win the tournament off the back of one power is a little sad, especially given the competition that was there.

Yes...can we please bring 2*AT teams and NO cage.
[/ QUOTE ]
Completely in agreement, the Cage can't stay in a 2v2 environment. It's gone from being a power used well by support characters (like Decibellion, etc.) to being a "key" power (for some people) that demands support characters to feed it, which really slows down the fun and pace of the event. Looking forward to 2*AT teams in the future too.

Just as fair as all the other near-autohit powers that can be made perma on one person, amirite? I don't believe there's a place for cages in a 2v2 environment - all that ended up happening last night was one team essentially admitting they couldn't take people in a fair 2v2, and having to make it 2v1 to even stand a chance. No idea how the other guys fared after I left, but I know Shaman (who I subbed in with) played an absolute bloody blinder of a 43 minute 5-man domination match in which I got to actually participate in for all of about 5 minutes - although in those 5 minutes I picked up 3 kills, Emp buffs, Fire Imps and my PvE build be damned - and then it was back in the cage until everyone watching got bored to tears and wished for God to nuke Test to spare us all the agony of having to play on against such a [censored] "tactic". Is it "fair" to use powers in the best/only way you know how? Maybe. It certainly doesn't make for good PvP though, and I'm damned certain it doesn't make for good PvPers.

I would like to see two of the same AT allowed, as I think I mentioned at the event. I was wondering whether it might actually be better to block two of the same powerset? Just an idle thought more than anything, but Shaman's two-Empath idea might have been almost as frustrating to fight as a cager/bubbler had Gatling stuck around.
And as for cages and bubbles, if KS (and someone from the villain side) would be okay with checking everyone's builds, and doesn't mind the idea of banning certain powers, it could just be banned outright. Or, as I mentioned, I do have a possible idea, which I'll get Syn to pass to KS while I'm at work.
I have two sonics with sonic cage and I've gone off the power lol. 30 to 60 minutes is too long for a PvP match, especially when people are waiting around and the match isn't very interesting (5 to 10 kills, one player stood around doing nothing).
Big thanks to Syn2 and Coldfront for providing my most interesting match of the night.
Lasted no longer than 20 minutes and the final score was 10-9 to The Children of Arioch.
Where were the Masterminds last night?

Not sure about everyone else, but I was sitting and watching until I got drafted in as sub, twice - on a different toon.
I just don't know that Masterminds are entirely viable for tournies - a severe lack of mobility, and in some cases range, severely hampers their arenability. I did pretty well with Anti in the last Squished, but it wasn't an experience I was rushing to repeat (summon, resummon, resummon, run like [censored], resummon).

Good to hear that so many of you enjoyed it...
From my point of view the Caging as i saw it was fine... It did draw out every match but as already stated to stay that sharp for an hour match after match does show true concentration.
For future event if i use Domination again i will be removing this power from the event. It really doesn't have a place in a event that i wanted over by 12 at the latest
As I say lesson is learnt... Ill let you know about the next tourny as soon as i think of it

I think such massive moaning is not gonna make anyone feel better.
Things are just the way they are and we'll have to deal with it. That's the way it is. Same applies to cages.
Admittedly the caging was very nasty indeed and i can agree it should be looked into seeing in this setting it was a bit overpowered. But it's happened now and lesson learned... And as KS has stated it will be dealt with in future tournies. In that aspect we're also curious about your partners ideas
Just try and show some respect for those make good use of what they have (come up with) to effective result and enlighten us with a positive attitude for all of us to stay in good spirits

The sad thing about that it's probably true.
I quickly want to say gratz to the winners. Good idea and well used. Even if the cage is a tad overpowered, its up to us to stop it, and we failed. So gratz on the victory.
I must say I had tons of fun lost night, and I hope it was the same for the rest of you. Big thanks to KS for organising.

Total Inferno Ice Blast/Thermal/Leviathan Corruptor
Big Gratz to the winners and big thanks to KS. Well done
I agree with most of what has been said about the cage so far but lets not take anything away from the winning team. I tried every trick in the book to get the 2/3 hits in that i needed to get the kill but each time the sonic timed his cage perfectly and the emps healing was great. I tried attacking from range, tried going in hard and fast, tried to waste the cage when i was in PS, tried getting defiance from the imps, but none of it worked. Like I said the timeing was perfect and to keep that up for that long was great.
In the second final I took a full tray of purples and used 5 at a time which worked well (till they ran out ) but as it was outdoor map I couldnt get the kills fast enough and the emps healing was again great. Indoor map I reckon I would have got the 5 kills i needed using this tactic. Our best chance would have been for me to have a load of BFs and for Psy to quit the match at the start, at least then they couldnt cage me if they wanted to win
Also big thx to Psydock and to everyone that took part, was a fun night
Grats to the winners and good job organising this event, special thanks to KS.
but... who were the winners actually? I havent seen it mentioned yet..
Phil mentioned names a few posts up Dragons Embrace (aftermath) and Rescuer (far seer) won.
They did a good job in using what they had at their disposal -as bitter didn't fail to notice Poor man, at times i felt so sorry for you that i was wishing i could crawl out of my flying camera saucer and let you out of your cage
Although with their uber mighty cage as well used keypower, they played damn good imo with excellent timing and as said the emping was remarkable indeed. *Tips hat to rescuer*

Me and bitter lost. Actually we forfeated. My mother started yelling and pulled out the internet the second fight she said i had school tomorow . But they would probebly have won anyways but it would have taken them around 35 minutes more as i had loads of bfs left.
Congratulation to Far-seer and the awsome cager. He really rocked at caging bitter ice. Can't belive that awsome timing. Just one question where you guys on team speak, not that it's cheating or anyways, but you were great at knowing when bitter wasn't phased shifted and when he was and so on.
And sorry if i moaned yesterday but it was VERY annoying fighting you guys solo :P.
Things turned out as i excpected, I thought a team with a cager would win and they did. I never thought me and bitter would make it so far as we didn't have the perfekt archetype power sets combo's.
If mr cager and far-seer wanna have a 2vs2 without a cager me and bitter will happil fight you.
Thank you very much bitter for being my m8, the first couple of fights were awsome didn't think we could hold the 0 for that long, espacilly nto against globeys team, hopefully we can team again. And thanks KS for the fun event.
What can i say it was a damn good event and despite how annoying it can be to be caged during a match i still find them a valid tactic. The only thing i couldnt stand was the god awefull amount of ice blasters that where in the event...

Yeah, I feel the same when an empath logs in.

I'd actually quite like to see another squishies only tournament but with no identical powersets instead of archetypes.
In fact, I'd like to see a lot more large-team tournaments. Maybe Squished but 4vs4 next time? With more players the tactics tend to be a lot different, and powers like the captures (sonic cage, detention field) are a lot more balanced rather than being damn-near "I win" buttons.
Thanks to KS for organizing this tournament, anyway. I had fun last night, despite the fact that I had pings of 850-900 in all my matches I still had an awesome time and I was pleasently suprised to not see everyone turning up with a blaster+empath team like I half-expected to see.
Psydock was illusion/empath and BitterIce was closest to Blaster and empath. I wonder what would happen if there were no empaths, would Duo still be as effective
