Why did you make a Stalker?

Just a "I'm bored at work question."

I made a Stalker for two reasons:
1. It was the closest I could get to a Scrapper and I knew how to play Scrappers.
2. It was one of the two interesting ATs, and my MM never even made it into retail.

For the record, reason 1 was a bad reason, but I'll stick with reason 2. She's level 16, hardly ever gets any play. She's slower to level than my blasters. Shame really.

I made my Stalker to just basically [censored] off people in PvP-Zones =)

I know I am an [censored], and I like it.^^

I made a stalker, because in beta I found out that I like each and every villain AT... which surprised me quite a bit regarding brutes and stalkers since CoH tankers and scrappers bore me to tears.
Well, I guess I am completely sold to altitis, because I just canĀ“t stand playing the same toon for any significant amount of time. So I just play at least one toon of each villain AT and they all get their regular playtime... which might prove to be a problem after next weekend since they are all 50 or close enough that I have to think about ways to make NCSoft let me buy additional char slots without having to open a second account... people say that I already have enough multiple personalities without that.

If it has
eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.

Claws look cool as sin and I sort of like the 'stalking around the pvp zone' stuff.

That is surprising.. I find stalker level quite quickly as you can do missions without having to rest much at lower levels due to the AS quick kill abiity and not having the massive dependancyy on stamina that brutes and corrupters have.

PvP, not as practical as MMs there, but much more fun

Spent the better part of a year leveling defenders and controllers and didn't want the responsibility of being the 'meat shield' some look for in brutes, so rolled a few stalkers.

Love the extra protection it brings but the thought I can be killed almost instantly is kinda cool too

That and its great for exploring the game world reasonably safely.

Sounded the most fun to play. And the idea of sneaky up on someone is too kewl for school

My first ever character - was reading the blurbs and just liked the look of efficient, stealthy killer, so took one on unaware of the huge amount of abuse stalkers get, but its all worth it in the end

I want atleast one of every AT(though they may be deleated if i dont find it fun, or cant get to grips for any reason) . The game changes drasicly everytime you change alt, and i can be a ninja

I basically didnt like the idea of a stalker but i am compelled to have atleast one of each AT to build up an idea of how all ATs can team with eachother so that with my more favoured ATs id understand other peoples toons more.

But I am finding something strangely and worryingly appealing about my stalker so i guess it was just the nature and actions of other peoples stalkers in pvp zones that put me off.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

With a Stalker, you have to close to melee range to use AS. With a Blaster, you can waste most of the things you would use AS on at range, killing them before they do any damage to you. Plus, you then just move on to the next target in the group which hasn't moved. The Stalker now needs to Scrap with a couple of other targets, and Stalkers are sucky scrappers.

Placate does make things a lot easier, but the sheer stupid levels of damage output a Blaster can generate make them, IMHO, faster to level than a Stalker.

I forgot reason 3. When I started EU beta of CoH what I wanted to make was a Stalker. Problem was, they didn't exist so I had to make a Scrapper. When CoV came out, obviously I wanted a Stalker, only to discover that a Stalker wasn't what I wanted to build either.

Survival, fine, but their kill rate goes down if they can't get a good element of surprise.

Because I'm an altoholic

Of course, I soon found out that stalkers suck, and deleted him >_>

I made mine after getting my Mastermind to level 40 in December just after CoV's launch as I was needing a new alt to play around with. Decided to give "That there Stalker malarky" a go. He started of as what I thought would be one of a few toons that I would play around with before settling on a main character to play until the level cap was raised to 50, at which time I planned to return to playing my Mastermind again.

That was 14 months ago. My Stalker has been level 50 for a fair while and my Mastermind has picked up 1/2 a level since i7 was launched.

I like playing Stalkers. I like the way that you need to be up close and personal to deal your damage and that you have a low base HP. Its a kind of "Fly by the seat of your pants" play style. I like them so much that I recently rolled another one that is currently sitting at level 12.

I made a Stalker so to enjoy deleting one .

EM is the way to get kills easily in RV, the others find it much harder, true

And who would have thought that??? I have an EM/ Stalker.^^

Well my kill/death ratio is still way better than with all my others 50s even in RV. But it is true, that Stalkers are alot more effective in SC/WB. Nonetheless even RV on the German Server is easy stuff every half-skilled player can handle.

Just to add some more accurative anecdotal evidence to my "Stalker's can't level for toffee" statement, I've been levelling my blaster all weekend. I got my Stalker out for a hack at one point, got wasted within seconds, and realised there and then that the Blaster would have made very easy going of that mission.

As I said, Stalkers have one good attack, and after that they are reduced to very-sub-par Scrappers. The ability of a Blaster to do consistently more damage, and keep away from the (often more damaging) melee attacks makes Blaster's far superior at levelling.

I can only assume that Stalkers were created as a PvP class from the outset and their PvE capabilities have suffered as a consequence.

A good stalker can efficiently and safely dispose of a mob with a little planning and a good use of Hide/Placate.

I can only assume you're experiences are a result of lack of praactice.

Also I take afront that you seem to be suggesting that Blasters=Range when the majority of the secondary sets are Melee/Support mixes.

You could of course deduce that there is something to playing stalkers that you don't yet understand.. (that came out as nicer than I thought..)

My own claws/nin stalker leveled 1-32 in 5-6 days with a ~4 hours playing each day. All except about 3 levels I soloed. And this was without any double xp. Im not saying that they are completely equal to other ATs in all respects, but leveling shouldnt be a problem. It's just that a change in playstyle is often required and some people thrive and some do not. Stalkers arent for everyone

I have 2 stalkers atm and both are concept based altho i do take them into PVP zones where they handle themselfs fine.
1's lvl 50 and the other is lvl 30.
I have to disagree on how they lvl tho and i also find them intresting and quite tactical to play making them for me very enjoyable to play.

Come to think of it i think all my toons are concept bar acouple.

I did find them hard going till i picked up superspeed. The extra stealth component is good for zipping away and through other mobs till hide comes back up.
