Me? Watch out? But I just reached 36,044 words.
A girl can dream can't she?
Another good session tonight but now my brain is a mess. I can't even write the 118 words that would bring my total up to 30,000. That one battle scene came in at over 7,500 words and it pretty much has to be split over two chapters. I haven't read it through yet to see how well it reads, to be honest I won't be able to face it for at least two days
One thing I'm aware of is that I'm this far into the story now and my main villain has had one line, no action and no impact on events yet. I have established all of my other characters now though. Except for Balak the Uzbek who got shot in chapter 2 and is still in the hospital. Oh yeah and Tataryn the Cossack who doesn't show up until later.
Anyhoo, 20,118 words to go.
Also I put up a new excerpt. It's from later in the story when the Germans have fielded their Aufrechtkriegsmaschines to swing the Battle of Kursk.
Finished chapter 5, started chapter 6! 15,193 words down so far!
Will post Chapter 5 up once it's been checked over!
@FloatingFatMan
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Finally beat my slump and working back at it. Brilliant idea came to me whilst eating a baguette and reading the Metro and is not based on work at all, no.*
* The above statement may not be strictly true.
Current chapter is coming along very nicely, couldn't keep it to just 2,500 words. It's based on a Batman:TAS episode, but will be disclaimered as such.
40,045 words
Another milestone broken, and unexpectedly too!
Even if I keep at normal chapter length, I should finish on Tuesday hopefully.
Impressive going there Max.
Today I've written a total of 370 words but did a bit of editing and paragraph shifting too. I now have Chapters 1 to 8 finished and the scene setter for Chapter 9 is written. I think I'm going to have to do some proper planning for these next chapters but thats not a bad thing. It'll give me something to do when the words aren't forthcoming
19,748 words to go.
If it wasn't for my History essay, I'd consider doing 5,000 words a day over the weekend, and getting it finished. Damn University and its attempts to make me slightly richer than other people!
Unfortunately, can't seem to get my head into writing mode today. I think not getting to bed until 8am because of bad back pains hasn't helped matters. Hopefully after a better night's sleep, I'll be more active tomorrow.
This does also mean I may not finish until after Memorabilia, as after Tuesday, I definetly can't write again until the following Monday.
Sorry to hear about the back pain, Max. =/
Still, with 40k cracked you're the lead guy and safest bet for completing the challenge. I wish you the best, especially with the back. Gambatte kudasai, ne.
That's two days of very little progress in terms of wordcount and I've reached something of an impasse plotwise. It's not insurmountable but it has become something of a brick wall from where I've been writing to over the past week. Rather than try and bash through it I've decided to pick up a thread from later in the story and start on the scene setting chapter that kicks Part 2 off at the same time.
As has happened before, the bit that's been tying me up for the last couple of days will probably untangle itself while I'm not looking.
18,918 words to go.

Zarquon dammit. Zergling stuff consumed most of yesterday until 11.30 pm, actually. Running almost 1,5k behind and "today isn't look good either".
Still, it's just 1,5k. Easily caught up and plenty of days to do it in.
Incidentally, my story threatens to run up to 70k-80k. The trick is to raise a glass at the end of November and just keep the writing pace until the book is done.
Then edit.
Some of the NaNo's are on 100k already...
Frightening. I'm still stuck on mid 10k, but some restdays coming up in which to panic write
You're still ahead of me, Weasel... I'm struggling around the 13k mark. But I also have two days holiday in just over a week, so fingers crossed...

Altoholic with too many characters to count now I have all these shiny servers...
Keep it up, Morgana and Weasel. On a good roll you can chug out 5k-10k words per writing session. English is a delightful language with all the excess words.
I have the next 3-4 history chapters thought out which means that writing them is just a mechanical realization of the stuff in my head. In some cases I get to invent the events as I write. Now there isn't much spontaniety.
Hmm, zerglings are falling asleep (fingers crossed) but I woke up kinda early too and ...would a nap be such a bad idea? just 2,5k behind quota...

...in which case over halfway through I haven't managed a good roll yet... I think 3k is about the most I've produced in one session so far.
Still, I've hit 15k today, despite deciding to log on and get half a dozen beacon badges for one of my SGs, and it's flowing a little better, so I'm not giving up!

Work tomorrow, but more plot twists than a very twisty thing
And that's before the novel
Whoops, that got later than planned. Anyway, looks like ignoring the plot-block worked, that's 2,000 shiny new words spread across two entirely unrelated chapters
16,955 words to go.

Same with me and 'session' has to be defined quite broadly. Like, a day. My writings are in bits and pieces, mostly. 52 words so far this morning (in one hour) and I'm liking this chapter.

That's the spirit! You know, judging by when the stories start to flow and how long you have hung on already, I'm betting on you to complete the challenge. Even tho I haven't done this myself in three years I have a bunch of friends who do this each year (the instruction and help mail that they circulate still list coffee brewed by me as one method of stimulating the writing) and fighting spirit during week 3 is a telltale mark of someone who busts the keyboard to death as end of month draws closer just to finish.
So, keep at it. You're in the zone.
40,000 word barrier broken, which is nice. However, I'm again at one of those points where juicy plot needs to be put on hold until some fairly-mundane (but hopefully not for the reader) details have been covered.
Still, I only have 10k words left to go, and plenty of story left (stopping at 50k? Pfft, not a chance), so as long as I promise myself not to take anymore breaks - I might just do this yet.
I know I should probably be more confident than I am, having such a short way to go, but I know I can easily run out of steam before I smash 50k.
Anywho, wish me luck; and to any stragglers - you can overtake me yet, I promise you that much .
I aim to be finished by the 22nd. Whether that'll happen or not, with a History essay due in on the 20th, I don't know, but I'm aiming for it.
