I'm glad I didn't get that email personally. I really dislike getting 'inspirational' message from people. I'm comfortable going at my own pace, and if people try urging me to go on, I tend to feel rushed, get stressed and give up entirely.

Exactly my point in my earlier posts!

Write at your own pace people, and have FUN doing it!

Last night I had to abandon all hope of actually writing, so I ended up drawing a map of my main country. Which I think will actually help considerably, it's already made all sorts of things clearer. That's the main problem I'm finding, that as it's a fantasy world I have to go out of my way to get things clear in my head to describe them.

If work doesn't grab my attention this afternoon, I might end up with a timeline as well. (Of course, a timeline has words so I could possibly include it in my word count....)

Next chapter written, and I've broken the 20K boundary, at 20,638 words. Next milestone, 30K, and who knows, I may actually get some proper action in the next few chapters.

Trust me, you don't want to see the directors cut I was talking about with Stasis, where it delved into a world of homoerotica as I was running out of words.

But I mean fighty-action, and that's proper punches, not matey-punches.

Having decided that the Stalingrad section needed more room to breath, my new plan calls for a larger proportion of the story to be devoted to it. This makes me happier, plus it means I've just finished the 3rd of the projected 9 chapters set there with two more on the way to completion.

33,903 words to go with more due before bedtime. Hopefully another 903 or so.

Footnote:
I seem to be displaying strange, Chief Inspector Dreyfuss type symptoms when MS Word opens. This is only partially normal.

EDIT: and because I've managed to keep it, here's the bit I don't have to chop out now.

Well, I've improved upon my recent word count, having managed nearly 1000 today. Still not back on target, but it's better.

Mind you, my planned "tense evening at the wayside tavern" as the characters avoid getting to know each other just yet has turned into them all getting on quite well and debating which is superior, pie or cake...

Just to check...as the novel I'm writing is set in the CoH/V universe, and doesn't contain silly things like scenes of a sexual nature or overly-gratuitous violence (as they're not suitable for these boards), it should be eligible for nomination for the November Creative Genius award, shouldn't it, though it's tied to Nanoo Nanoo?

Posted

Hmmm...on a purely pedantic note, isn't it when it first gets posted? Which would probably be December? Can't see there'd be any problems with it though; although I feel very sorry for Bridger if he has to read 7 or 8 full length novels to decide.

On my book, I'm falling behind and my holiday has run out. Need some serious wordage soon or I'm gonna be up on Nov 30th sweating buckets.

Well, my novel is currently being posted up a chapter at a time on the Creative Boards during November, so it'll be finished towards the end of November.

And Bridger doesn't need to read *all* the novels, just the CoH/V ones, or everyone can just tell him how great mine is.

32,970 words to go. Thank the lord for verbose Nazi scientists with long monologues

stuck on 9k but that's kk. I'm more interested in just writeing it and then writeing the one of the story before hand. I'm not gonna do a Gorge Lucas and publish them in that order I'll finish teh first after the second and then publish the first if I have the chance.

new extract up now..

I'm using my writer's block time to type out what i have written already and amending it as i go.. this means i've collected an extra 700 words in one small section ^_^

handwriting FTW!

Been rather busy today, so decided to take a day off from writing, otherwise I'd stand to lose most of my evening. Pictures will be done though.

Last night I went back and wrote Chapter 0. It seemed that all the pieces set in the past worked well for the readers but the current day bits were hard to get into as the situations weren't much explained. So I wrote a 1800 words of intro that hopefully describes the main characters as well as their current situation to reasonable degree.

Now I'm almost at 3k with the next chapter and no end is in sight yet. Positive spin of it that I'm 1k ahead of the 1700 words a day schedule, but woefully behind the attempt to crack 30k by the end of week two. Situation wasn't helped with zergling activities stretching far into the night.

Still, all in all, 18k done or so, maybe a bit more tonight before hitting IG. Or after.

Wrapped up another two chapters today which accounts for another 900 words. I've only got one chapter open at the moment which means I'm going to have to start thinking up some stuff to kick start another couple just so I've got something else to write when I stall on the bit I'm doing. I'm due another battle scene and I've just thought of the place to set it.

Ooh that's a good idea.

Really starting to slip with being back at work, but a good night's sleep with a plan for tomorrow will have me writing at work to add on later. Damn this social life!

Doing today'spictures have given me a fresh idea for tomorrow's chapter, so glad I took a day off writing.

31,392 words to go.

I think I'll take it a little easier on the writing tomorrow, I've not got as much done today as I'd hoped. The chapter I'm doing at the moment feels a bit scrappy and disjointed but its one of those where several unconnected things happen at the same time. Maybe it won't look so bad tomorrow and maybe what to do with it will seem clearer.

An easier day of it tomorrow will also give me chance to work out the new battle scene and some of the showdown scenes towards the end of the Stalingrad bit. There's a lot of uncharted territory very close now so I need to do some staring out of the window to get the details figured out. It's the uncharted territory that slows me down the most.

It's looking increasingly likely that I'm going to lose 3 or 4 days out of the last week of November which may be a problem for hitting the 50k. I am almost certain that the full story won't fit in 50k, I reckon it'll be more like 65k words. That said, the pace of the story should pick up in the second half.

After all the zergling hassle I actually napped for a bit and then went to run a mission with folks. And sleep after that. However I know how this chapter runs and I figured out the remaining arc for the grandfather and a nice intro for Andre's dad too. After that it gets scetchy again.

Woohoo! It was a long drive but now the behemoth of a chapter is done. 4200 words. Now just a little nip of the next chapter and 20k is cracking!

As hoped, last night's scrappy chapter doesn't look so bad and I think I've managed to plaster over the cracks that were there. That chapter is getting close to done now, just a bit more writing to do and then some tidying up and then I'll be onto the next battle scene. I still need to figure out the general sweep of that one and, ideally, get another couple of chapters sketched out.

30,655 words to go.

For some inexplicable reason, I keep putting off my major conflict scene. I should have reached it by now, but instead, I've been padding out the story thus far. Something tells me I've missed out some vital information, and until I can work out what it is and where it's supposed to go, I can't move the story forward.

Everything else is in place, so it shouldn't be hard - but it feels it. I have everything planned for after the main scene of the novel, but due to the genre I'm writing, I can't do my usual and write the ending first.

I really don't know how people can write in order, as this is the first time I've ever tried it (I was always taught to write the beginning and the end first, and then fill in the middle) and I'm starting to struggle.

Last murder mystery, ever. Next year I'm writing drama, or comedy, or satire or, or...hell, I'll write a cheap Mills and Boon knock-off if I have to - but no more murder mysteries ever again.

Next chapter done, over 1,000 words over my quota now, at 23,445, and only 100 or so words behind Stasis.
