Militia Thursdays
Pious and Leif
I've just read your bios and I have to say I'm impressed. You've both managed to inject a real feel of your characters into your writing. When I meet you on Thursday it won't feel as though you're strangers.
I don't know about you but my only concern is managing to play the character I've created instead of battleflag with a different look. Moons of Zem , it'll be a struggle.

Praetorian Earth is where the Level 40+ AV's come from. It's an alternate version of Earth where all the Signature Heroes turned Eeeeeevil.
Ah, thanx for the compliment Battle, I enjoyed reading your one too, especially the part where you've described Devlin Saint as gifted with life and empowered with death.. or somink, you know what I mean.
I actually have a few screenshots of Dragonfly.. she hitched a ride to icons immediately she arrived at Atlas Park.. but now she's stuck in steel canyon, hehe.
i've done my bio, it's not great but hey, i tryed :P
Cool bio Universe, fun to read. So far, Dragonfly is no stranger to Devlin Saint, Diamondskin, Brother Tchall, and J.R Fist. I guess we'll soon meet the other five. The Minister of course, goes without saying.
Oh, heres Dragonfly at Icon: Spandex : Oriental : Knighthood : Armoured
Pious
This may be my game ignorance coming out but how have you done the Icon thing before starting? You do know we are all starting at lev 1 zero exp?
Sorry, I imagine you can explain how you've done it all.
Battleflag
The create a character screen, I'd imagine, was used. He just made those as ideas of what his cossies were going to be.
Friends are just enemies that haven't betrayed you yet.
JUST A REMINDER:YOUR CHARACTER SHOULD ONLY EVER BE ACTIVE ON THE THURSDAY NIGHT SESSION. A QUICK VISIT TO ATLAS TO SEE HOW YOUR CHARACTER LOOKS, MOVES ETC IS FINE BUT NO EXP SHOULD BE GAINED.
BATTLEFLAG
Ashen and Universe, great bios. It's interesting to see how differently people's minds work. Ashen used a very detailed profile technique(understandable considering the nature of the character) and Universe narrates his own story. Brother looks as though he's going to be a bit of a strange one and Fist gives the impression of being a good bloke who's had some bad luck. Thanks for the efforts All!

I guess this trumps the question I was going to post this morning: are we only using these characters on Thursday night team ups? I can see that some people who have more time would end up many levels higher than those who have less time and that would make teaming difficult. (Or just annoying e.g. sidekicking, exemlparing all the time.)
On a lighter note, loving the bios so far. I'm just tweaking mine some more so that she fits in with my other character's storylines on Union. Looks like it's going to be an interesting team...!

I'd already assumed we'd be starting with 0 exp
and that we'd pretty much only play the Militia characters on thursdays.
but you are forgeting.. I is a genius.
kidnaped a high level, threatened her with my sword and stole her money.
oh, also forced her to escort me across the busy streets.
then i took screenshots of possible outfits, ran em through photoshot and voila.
DEATH
I'm seriously thinking of including variations of the following rules concerning hospital and death. This is just a draft idea so please let me know what you think.
Death Penalties:
1. Any player who dies i.e. is in need of an awake or hospital visit is regarded as incapacitated and must quit the game until the following week's session.(This could stand for two deaths so you get one chance. What do you think?)
2. Any player may be brought back from the dead by a healer only once in a session. What I mean is, this is a freebie that doesn't count with the above rule. The rez will be of much more value but not a cure all(sorry about the pun.) Views?
Why?
I see too much: I'm just off to the hosp but will be straight back. No debt, no problem!
Roleplay will be easier if were a bit worried that a mistake could end the sessiondeath is scary.
Character personalities will be easier to see. It takes a brave tanker to do the job when death means goodbye for a week.
Mutual respect should develop. Healers and buffers will be valued, as will the brave folks at the front.
The aggro everything guy will be very unpopular and may even be voted off. (Not that I would hold that against the player if he or she is simply in role. You know, who wants to be on a team with The Hulk? Should this happen the player would be welcome back with another character of appropriate level)
This would all be reviewed for lev 10.
Responses please.
Oh, I wouldn't start the death rule until the second session at the earliest.

I can see you're going to be fun Pious

Ugh. No. Really wouldn't work. You'll get situations where half the team couldn't make it to a session, somebody makes a blunder or two and suddenly you're down to two players. Where's the fun in that?
Don't choke this thing down with rules. It's just two hours every week and we're all in this for the fun. If there's all kinds of rules and "thou must" people won't bother to play and the whole thing will fall apart.

That's exactly the kind of response I was looking for Leif, I hadn't considered it from that angle.
Thanks
Anyone else?

I'd love to let you join now but team up numbers limit me. Once we're up and running I'll see about starting another group that may or may not involve me playing. If you want though, you could copy my original post and run your own version. I certainly wouldn't object if you wanted to copy any rp/ic stuff I post. All you'd need to do is change the team name and meet either somehwere else or at a different time. Have a think about it, it's just case of getting the people to sign up.

If you're fine with letting others borrow your idea, and starting their own groups - why not simply allow for more than the one group to team, each working for the same overall "company"?
In the style of the X-Men, you've got say, Generic Tanker #1 leading group A, Generic Defender #2 leading group B and so on? Each character being a member of the same Supergroup.
Not only would it allow for more people to take part, but it'd solve the inevitable teaming problems. There's bound to be a week where someone can't turn up; and with the current roster/storyline, a team would be down one member and may suffer/break continuity. If you had "extras" to balance out the teams, you could quite easily explain why so-and-so had suddenly joined the group.
All the extras would have to do is either team at the same time as tha main group, or simply make sure their levels matched those of the rest of the Supergroup (easily done by a few hours/days of soloing).
I've been watching this idea expand, humming and hahing over joining up - now that I've decided I'd like to give it a go, all the "spaces" have gone, and currently, I've got no chance.
I'd join, but thursday doesn't work for me, what with having a BESM game then. Stasis makes a good suggestion, and Leif's right about the death penalties. It's all about KISS.
Would have been fun to try on another night though, Liberty Lad could do with a team.
Yeah, I've got to go with Leif on this one. We should keep is simple but we should also be respectful of the game mechanics and respond to them in character. For example, if someone is a magor aggro generator then we will need to speak with them and get them to tone it down. If someone keeps dying, then we will need to respond to their problem IC as well. For example, if the controllers or blasters are constantly getting whacked, then we will need to see if they position themselves badly or ask if the healers are concentrating their efforts in the right place or even if the scrappers and tankers are doing their job keeping aggro away from the weaker members. I do agree that it would be wonderful to see self-sacrifice and all those other things that come from a solid rp group but I think that will emerge in time as we play and relationships develop. But kudos for respecting the game engine, I hate it when people get so flippant about dying, it wrecks any good roleplaying mood.
As for other teams, I tend to be around Monday nights a lot so if this idea catches on and people want to form their own IC mission teams, I am sure that any of my alts would be more than pleased to sign up. Just call me a sucker for teaming.

I was mildly interested in this at first, but as more details have arrived I feel the conditions are far too restrictive for my tastes...
Thanks for all the feedback, especially about death penalties, it's binned.
The consecutive teaming idea is fine but I'm concerned about things getting confused; mainly me. After a few weeks maybe thing'll change but for now I'm sticking with the eight.
If you look on the board you'll see I've posted a second team advertisement. It'll be exactly the same as this but I won't be involved, at least I don't plan to at the moment. Anyone interested can sign up. you can pick the night between you.
Zortel, Stasis and Bliz, this should suit you.
Battleflag
Would anybody be interested in copying (with Battle's permission of course) the same basic idea, but with a slightly less restrictive approach, mainly as regards (1) no requirement that it has to be new level 1 characters and (2) a more flexible timing of teaming-sessions?
I really like the idea of an IC team, but the three characters I would prefer to play are LVL 20, 10 and 8 respectively.
If we had a more "floating" schedule there might also be room for more than 8 members.
I don't know if this would work, or if it is just a variant of the IC-coalition already in progress thanks to Coile.
Lotus
Fine by me, and my lev 12 tanker, Battleflag would love to join.

That was why I suggested it, really - to stop any confusion. The idea of having two identical groups, one which you're an active player of, the other you're not - but may turn up occasionally as an NPC is baffling (for me at least).
ICly, I can't think of any reason why this should be, or how it works. Except possibly a time/space/dimension rip. If the other team is completely seperate, why should your character turn up at all? No offence meant here at all, I'm just trying to understand your reasoning.
If there were two or more teams in the same SG, members could communicate with each other easily (IC reason: walkie talkies? ); and report back to your character. With more than one "leader" in the group (X-Men example: Storm, Cyclops), more tasks could be accomplished; say group A have to save some hostages from the DE, whilst the Crey have taken over a scientific lab - group B could cover it.
It might also help bypass those awful IC continuity errors; instead of this group and the other non-connected but which your character might still turn up to talk to group both having to fight and arrest Nemesis, each group could let the other(s) know which missions they've completed (the AV ones in particular as they have one ultimate goal, rather than smaller goals which could be explained off with some nifty IC reasons), and therefore the other groups could do their best to avoid them.
All you'd need are some trustworthy players to run the other groups.
Just a few suggestions, as the non related group just confuses me.
Deleted to avoid further confusion.

Thanks for posting your bio Ashen, I'll go and have a look now. Higher than Minister! The very thought! No problem at all, it works for your character then it's fine with me. I'm pretty sure Minister's scowling though.
As for the Praetorian earth I've no idea what you're talking about. I've read The Vampire Earth by E E Knight and tht's superb.
