  1. Hello all

I never usually have the time for a task force (I've never even tried one before) but tonight I should be okay and I was wondering if any were planned. I should be on around 8-8.30ish with my lev 21 Defender Albion Shield (He really does defend.) I'm happy to play IC or OOC. Any offers heroes?

    Thanks

  2. Quentin Foxwood

In a dimly lit room, complete with candle and flickering monitor, a young man sits reading a script written in a language that was dead before the continents split. Above his head, invisible and inaudible, two beings look on. One is red eyed and sharp toothed; the other is soft lipped and rosy of cheek.

"So is he mine or yours do you think, tk, tk."

"It is ever so hard to tell with his kind, Atlantean blood is so difficult to read. Must you clack your teeth like that?"

"Ha, best for us both that they left, damned meddlers."

"Indeed, they were a power unfathomable."

The young man stood up, an open can of Budweiser in his hand. The modern vessel clashed with a somewhat Victorian attire. He pressed a button and music filled the room, "Should I stay or should I go, If I go there will be trouble, If I stay it will be double..."

"I say he's mine, his soul is still untainted by modern standards."

"Tk, tk. Ah, but look at the way he moves, his eyes, that smile. There's a wolf in there and one day it'll come out, he's mine alright."

The young man lit a cigarette and semi danced around the room whilst reading the crumbling parchment.

"Dear me I see what you mean, he has no sense of reverence. That document could rock the religions of the world and he's treating it like a fly swat, no offence."

    "None taken."

"But then again, the glow of the protector is there, can't you see it?"

The young man stubbed his cigarette out and dropped the parchment as he looked upwards. "Would you two please shut up I'm trying to listen to this."

"...if you say that you are mine..."

    "What?!?"

    "Tk, What?!?"

"In my left hand I have death." The hand sparked dangerously. "In my right hand I have life." The hand glowed calmly.

Red eyes widened; soft lips gaped.

Sparking death and pulsing life blazed forth sending the two watchers racing back to their realms in shared surprise.

"One day is fine, next is black..."

"I'll decide who I am and who I'll be, by fair means or foul. And I'll do it in Paragon City.Look out Thorns, Foxwood's coming and he's ready to do some gardening!"
  3. Hi

I'm looking for an SG with some In Character/rp tendencies (nothing heavy) and my normal weekly gaming time is 7.30 to 9ish uk time although this varies as life demands it. On the weekend I play when I can, usually similar times. My main alt at the moment is a defender by the name of Albion Shield.

    Inv/ss tanker

    Hello all

I'm sure there's loads of good advice out there about this kind of build and I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction. I'm looking for more of an aggressive build as my concept is a pretty active/aggresive type of character. I know that's what scrappers are for the inv/ss set fits my idea.

    Thanks if you can help
  6. Thanks for all of the comments and advice; I appreciate it. As a result of this discussion I've reinvented Battleflag the tanker and left the blapper idea alone for the moment. The reason I've done this is that I've decided have another try at reaching some higher levels and seeing what the game has to offer. No doubt I'll still be blapping with my fire/energy blapper.

If you see an inv/energy tanker by the name of Battleflag, say hello--you helped reincarnate him!

Thanks for all of the comments; they're certainly something to think about. And guess what? I've started thinking of some knew character ideas as a result! I have always been fond of the inv/ss or inv/enr tanker so I might make a serious effort at getting one of those past 20. I like the tank in the long run because most of my characters were armour or battlesuits and i enjoy the gameplay and imaginary invulnerability of it all--that's why I got my tank to 17 really--he felt like a real characer in an rp sense.

Your generousity is appreciated mate, thanks!

  8. Interesting comments, especially all of the buff stuff--I don't really take as much notice as I should in that area.

I've been playing coh on and off for over a year and lev 17 is the highest i've ever been. Why? Well, I'm not sure but the slow down of leving and a new idea for a character are probably the main ones. When I used to play pen and paper dungeons and dragons I was the same: I like beginnings I suppose. Having said that, i am getting pretty tired of the same missions and routines so I should try to get a character at least to his twenties. My main problem is how to maintain interest in the character without thinking of another. My lev 17 was a tanker called Battleflag(ic/rp at times) and i really liked him but after a few sessions of trying to team and struggling i thought: life's too short and indulged my imagination with another character. You see that's another problem, I often can't devote too much time to the game, even when I'm not working. I imagine it's the same for many of us.

  9. I’ve recently discovered the blapper pseudo AT and I thought I’d start this thread to discuss it. Please feel free to join in if you have anything to say.

    Why I’m enjoying blapping?

I’ve enjoyed playing all of the ATs with scrappers being my last choice. The problem is that whatever AT I choose it always seems to lack something. Heres’s what I mean:

Tanks—I love the AT’s toughness but the damage feels weak even if it isn’t really

Controllers—Really interesting but I tend to envy the more aggressive/active types.

Defenders—Interesting but often undervalued in teams unless you heal. I think I can
probably get a lot more out of this AT if I look at it from a slightly blapper angle.

Scrappers—Good in short bursts but that’s it for me.

Blasters—Good but can be frustrating just being artillery.

Having said all of that, I suppose concept is a very big issue for me too as blapping seems—to my mind anyway—offer a lot of freedom. When I first started the game I wanted to copy the like of Ironman or Vindicator but I found that neither the tank or scrapper AT fitted the part. Being a blaster didn’t really do it either as people were always saying that blasters shouldn’t melee—I know opinions vary.

Anyway, the long and the short of it is that now I can melee with great damage and when things get rough I can back off. Ok I’m squishy but that’s something I can handle( most of the time) if I’m careful. In contrast, when I’m a tank, I can never really feel as though I’m doing too much damage—I know I can be but it just doesn’t feel like I am. Equally, when I’m a scrapper, I can melee but that’s it.

    Ive got:

    A lev 11 blapper: fire/energy—great fun
A lev 5 blapper sonic/elec—feels weak in comparison(possibly superior fire graphics could be part of the feeling) but I think that’s because I don’t get a good punch until lev 10.

These are all very much just my own opinions and experiences so feel free to ignore or comment as you wish.

PS Hi to Trigger Man--I think that was your name.
  10. Thanks for the replies all; wise words I'm sure. I've decided to give it a miss. Just in case anyone's interested, I've decided to go sonic/elec as I've never used sonic before and it fits in with my tech battlesuit concept.

Will the elec melee give me much of an end return or is it minimal?

  11. I'm thinking of making an energy/elec blapper and wondered if lightning field was any good. What do you think?

  12. Thanks to all of this advice and the varied viewpoints I now find that I can enjoy scrapping. However! The more I look at my play style and preferences, I think that a blapper may actually be the right scrapper for me. Now, I know it's not the same by a long way but since starting this experiment I've also been playing a fire/energy blapper and it seems to offer a lot of what I want. Okay, the toughness isn't there but I can melee with one or two mobs and my damage capability is pretty impressive. From what I've seen of power choices, there are a few other ways I can go to allow rp/ic freedom. Having said all of that, I suppose it's pretty difficult to make a blapper that functions as well as a true AT.

Anyway, I'm not done with scrapping but blapping is a wonderful new toy for me and I think it's probably what I've been looking for since I started playing the game.

Thanks for all of those wise words and hints!

  13. Yes, that's why I post here instead of talking to my fellow crime fighters.

  14. Well, thanks to all of these helpful replies I've had some fun with my new Ka/Sr scrapper--I'm sure it's more down to a change in attitude rather than anything else. I'm enjoying the toughness and damage dealing I'm capable of although I suspect I shouldn't have got three attacks by lev 5--no problem I can change that later or start again if necessary.

The next issue that I'm trying to get used to is the chaos of being surrounded by loads of mobs. In other ATs I avoid it unless I'm a tank and then it's not a big problem most of the time. What can I do to help make sense of these situations or is it just a case of getting used to the AT play style?

    Thanks

  15. This strategic approach seems as though gameplay would be more interesting if I'm doing the empath health watch thing as well as targetting major threats. I'll have to give it a go. On e of the reasons scrapping has left me cold is that once the team is in a fight I feel as though all I have to do is fight and stay alive. When I've played as other ATs I've always felt as though the needs of others were part of my job. Maybe my thought process has been part of the problem in that I see scrappers as solo fighters who happen to be in a team. It could come from meeting so many kill frenzy types I suppose; no offence to you psycho types

    BF
  16. Interesting stuff. I particularly liked Dante's guardian scrapper idea. That appeals because it means I can solo and team for very altruistic purposes. Obviously, this is likely to be a slow way of gaining xp but it may be the angle I was looking for to enjoy the AT.

    Thanks

  17. Well, despite all of your great advice, I'm afraid I can't stand scrapping. Actually, that's not entirely true; scrapping solo or in small teams is ok but in big teams I find it tedious and chaotic--maybe it's just me. I think the closest I can come to being a scrapper is as an attack based tank or a melee capable blaster, both of which I've enjoyed in the past. Once again, thanks for all of the opinions and advice.

  20. I've been playing COH for nearly a year now and the only AT I can't really enjoy playing is the scrapper--you may remember a similar post that I made many months ago. Anyway, I'm looking to give it another try so:

What kind of scrapper is the most fun to play and why?

Any advice on how to enjoy the AT?

All answers appreciated if you have the time or can be bothered.

    Thanks

    Hello all

    I have a lev 9 troller with:

    lift
    Grav dist
    Crush field
    Personal FF
    Df
    Hover

and I'm looking for advice for what to take at lev 10--I imagine it'll be something from the power pool, but maybe not.

I'm looking to hover(I will get fly) in combat for defense as much as possible and avoid melee. I know i should have a long term plan but this is the way I'm doing it. All advice appreciated.

    Thanks

  24. I'm creating a tech based blaster and for concept purposes I want him to be strong at range(obviously) but keen to avoid close quaters work. My initial idea was elec(It fits my concept well) and energy because of knockback. Having done a bit of reading I get the impression that at fairly low levels energy means melee range work. Correct? I'd be interested in any advice as regards power choices or build.

    Thanks
