Blaster who doesn't want to get punched!

I'm creating a tech based blaster and for concept purposes I want him to be strong at range(obviously) but keen to avoid close quaters work. My initial idea was elec(It fits my concept well) and energy because of knockback. Having done a bit of reading I get the impression that at fairly low levels energy means melee range work. Correct? I'd be interested in any advice as regards power choices or build.

Thanks

BF

Energy secondary also has lucrative selfbuffs in addition to melee, such as build up, boost range, conserve power(i always remember this name wrong), power boost. Boost range particularly Id imagine would suit a ranged blaster well. (it will increase the range of ALL your blasts by 75% and is easy to get perma)

All the secondaries save devices have melee attacks in them. (makes me wonder why people still think that melee doesnt suit blasters)

You can't perma Boost range anymore, even with 3 recharge SOs and Hasten going, unless you get outside help in the form of buffs, (Speed Boost, Accelerated Metabolism, etc), you will still have a dead time of about 7 seconds.

Erm I beg to disagree.. Its recharge is a lot shorter than you think (same level with practised brawler). Iirc it permas with 2 recharge SOs and nothing else. You only have to make do with the annoying noise every minute..

Granted I dont have it atm but i could test a respec on test server to try it out.

power is listed as having a base recharge of 60 seconds, duration of 15 seconds, 3 recharge SOs and hasten means recharge of 22 seconds at best without outside buffs

**Acceptable "support" responses**

Its your fault
Its your computers fault
Its your ISPs fault

Energy Manipulation > Boost Range

+ Recharge Time 60 seconds
+ +59.6% Range Enhancement to Self for 30 seconds [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs]

Nofuture says its a 30 sec duration, with a 60 sec recharge.
So with three Recharge SOs it'll be just short of perma.

Maybe you're confusing it with Power Boost?

While it is perfectly possible that I'm wrong, im gonna check it personally. Just have to wait for test server copy.

ps. already two contradicting sources of info..

pps. power boost is even further away from perma than build up..

Ok, looks like it doesnt overlap with just 3 recharge SOs, but is missing only couple seconds or so.

With hasten it overlaps (does it actually stack?) as you can see from this
pic.

The duration is the 30 seconds as mentioned by Mael.

Quoting this, if you replace the duration with its correct duration 30 seconds do you get the 8 second overlap with hasten..

Aye, but it's a 15 second duration with a 60 second recharge, at least according to nofuture... which would fit with stalk_obot's numbers.

Cheers for the clarification on "Boost Range" Hammer!

[/ QUOTE ]If the icon stacks, it means the power stacks, usually. Also, NoFuture doesn't have it as [This effect does not stack from the same caster].

Is there a +range cap then that we have to take into account?

[/ QUOTE ]I recall something about there being one, but don't have a source at hand.

Apparently there isn't.

At least, not one to all powers at 300ft.
Which would make sense since you can slot recall friend for range.

Anyone up for testing for an attack range cap with Psionic lance 3-slotted for range increases?
[It should let you fire up to 175 * (1+(.2*6) = 385 feet!]

The two optimal secondaries IMO if you don't want to melee are Devices and Ice - Devices for Caltrops (you don't need more than this to avoid melee) and Ice for Shiver and Ice Patch. I find that Energy encourages melee, and has few tools to prevent it.
