PvP dead on defiant?

and running away is tactics...? why play pvp then? tactics are skills that u use to beat someone...

Movement is tactics. Just standing there and taking hits is bad tactics, especially if you're a squishy. The best way to avoid hits is to move around, or as you call it "running away" and attack when ít's best suited to you.
If we didn't move around we would be as dumb as the NPC's in this game.

By that way of thinking when I were a young lad being taught how to fight I should have stood there and let people well far and above my weight class beat the stuffing out of me. Sorry to dissapoint bu I used my slighter and shorter frame to my advantage. I moved out of the way and got in close inside my oppentents reach to deliver blows and such. And I was told I was doing right by my teachers. Had I have follwed what you consider tactics its likely my teachers would have not bothered coaching me anymore.
I love the arena. I am scared of PvP zones coz they intimidate me I think everyone is out to get me... and I play 'support' characters.
I have never yet had a serious arena match I just love going there with friends from my SG and its so funny seeing your favourite team mate try to kill you.
In my old SG the Freelancers I suggested we all went there to kill the SG member who was planning on leaving the game, and it was a great way to send them off (it was friendly killing). Since then I have become a fan.
My new SG is trying to set up a nite when we can do PvP which will include the scary zones and the arena. We had gone for Fridays but we are changing to another nite as is a popular nite to go out in 'real life'.

He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day.
Probably the greatest boxer who ever lived, Muhammad Ali, used movement as his prime weapon. There were many bigger and more powerful boxers than him but he rarely stood there and took it. They couldn't hurt him because they couldn't catch him.
With regards to running away... If standing still and continuing to try to hit a controller while all his rad toggles are debuffing you through the floor and his imps are tearing you to shreds is a tactical decision, then I propose that in fact my sister's son is a simian.
DON'T eat muffins while I'm developing you.
Pants! Turkey Magnates! A man in a box! Rogue AI! Come one, come all, to arc ID 10107 - It's [i]'Not as long as some other arcs'[/i]!

and then there is the running away...
PVP = Player versus Player?
then why is 90% always running away?!
[/ QUOTE ]
Ever heard of a tactical withdrawal? Only idiots safe and sound at home insist that their soldiers fight to the last man and the last bullet. Do you honestly think any empath is just going to stand there and get beaten up by a stalker?
[ QUOTE ]
i think this is because of peeps being overpowerd by lvl50 toons fully slotted[so its no use to enter pvp now wen u dont got a lvl50 toon]
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't make the mistake of assuming that everybody thinks the way you do. I have no interest in PvP, this was one reason I chose this game, there wasn't any back then. It's since arrived and bought with it all the associated problems that other games with PvP have...
Having said that I could be tempted to poke my nose into a PvP zone again one day...have to wait and see though. At present it's a non-starter for me, don't have time to mess around learning a whole new game which is what i suspect PvP is.

The only rules I have are "no travel powers" , "limit stealth" for the tournament and "no Kheldians" (lvl 50s are welcome though)

I've seen your post and think it's exellent you're organising it but...meh....no travelpowers, thats why I've never showed up....sorry
[/ QUOTE ]
Same here really.. My blaster only has mobility to protect him..
[/ QUOTE ]
Same here, I always find movement is a key aspect of PvP...and putting that on even nerfs swift/speed boost etc
[/ QUOTE ]
No travel is pointless in my eyes, it goes from being a strategic battle to simple button bashing.

Not really, they have an advantage, but are more than beatable.
When CoV first came out, I went in with a team of villains, we were all between level 15 and 20...and couldn't even afford to fully slot with DO's. We absolutely destroyed the heroes who were in the zone. While being outnumbered quite badly.
Mostly due to superior teamwork.

Well they are Goes for both though, arena and pvp zones.
Difference is the controlled enviroment of the Arena. You choose who and what you fight etc.

Pfft, having tagged with u lots of times, i can say u should learn and play pve first then
Nahh, being a lil serious, limitations on stealth and travels are not good if u plan to boost pvp. Im for having regular pvp nights, but limitations are not good as they fav melee types, mainly stone tanks
Well Im just getting into arena after i got 50 (wish i did it earier) and i love it, mind you im not that good as you will find out from Jag. As for PvP Im still a fan but again im not that good all coz i didn't pick my powers in the right order, but after I7 i should be coming back once i have used my respec up.

Was a good fight to watch anyway.
Makes me glad that I'm DM/Rgn ToF FTW!!!!
Mind I've never fought Jag in the arena only in Warburg, so he'd still probably kill me

As far as I recall it was "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee." wasn't it? Had to butt in to correct sorry.
Incidently from watching a lot of classic boxing fights, Ali's main survival tactic seemed to be holding on and frustrating an opponent over the whole course of a fight, yeah the fancy footwork worked on the outside, with his jab to back it up, but he always reverted to holding and pulling an opponents head down, in-close. He definately got away with quite a lot that just wouldn't be acceptable today
Back in the general realms of the discussion at hand...
Movement in PvP is a good thing, and it really irks me when people say i'm running away on my bs/regen when I just TP one or two jumps away to regen and then come back to the fight (TP is his only travel power atm aswell). It's not like i'm running all the way back to base (or that I just keep running in the arena), I am just playing to the strengths of the Regen set, and if they have not got the tactics/powers to stop me using this strategy even when they outnumber me, it is not my fault.
hahah Muhamed Ali couldnt run out of the ring could he...?!
my point was that if [example] a stalker hits me and i got only couple hitpoints left, the moment u hit em they start runnin away.
they run away with almost full hitpoints, instead of finishin the fight.
if u call that gameplay fine by me,ic it different.
about the lvl50 PVP i ment a lvl50 PVP area like WB or SC and not pvp arena.
steppin a bit back in a fight or runnin away for 10 minutes are 2 different things...
and im really talkin about 1 vs 1 fights in a area like BB or WB.
team games are different anyways.
dont get me wrong, i like the pvp but wen i start a fight i rather finish it[im not afraid to lose sum] and i certainly dont run away wen i got 3/4 hitpoints left![and sum insp]
there are a lot of good pvp playing peeps! but some of em...
im just really lOOkin forward to a LVL50 pvp AREA<-- like sc or bb ![i hope we get that!]

The thing is, most Stalkers do bad damage when they're not hidden. The reason they run away, is not because they're afraid they will die, it's because they want to get hide back up, so they can do another high damage attack to you.
That's just how the Stalker AT works, in most cases anyway... an EM Stalker would just hit you with Energy Transfer and finish it right there.
Another good tactic would be for he stalker to get your hitpoints really low with AS and then have a Corruptor to hit you with a Scourge attack. That's teamwork, most villains still need to learn about it.

well thats what i said... but i still dont get it,why run if they almost killed sumone with AS ??
the verry moment they get hit back once, they jump, fly, run away.[and leave u standing there with almost no hitpoints left]and i cant see a reason why, in that!
run away to hide again okay[stealth], but not if u can win or end the fight.[or wen u almost killed 1]
and "the way" an AT build is played, is up to the player, peeps are not forced to play like that, thats there own decision.
im trying to find out as much as i can on PVP but i got only 1 lvl50 toon yet [not pvp build, but still a respec in his pocket]
also i did sum PVP arena and BB PVP,and i won sum and lost sum matches.
but again... im really hopin on a lvl50 pvp area like SC-WB- or BB !!!
runnin away because u almost done for.. Mkay! but run away with 3/4 hitpoints because u get hit back once... is pathetic.[srry to say but thats my opinion]
If I don't have support on my Stalker, I run. I've not exactly got an unbundance of hitpoints and without Hide up, the majority of PvP players will hit straight through.
Not to mention that if I AS a Blaster, they can usually 1-2 shot me if they're fast enough. If ET misses after an AS, I'm fleeing.
But if I'm buffed, I don't mind the odd spot of Scrapping.

Ive only had to matchs so far, this is due to never being invited to battle, i don't really know how to setup a pvp match so i just hang around till i get an invite, but if anyone every see me in the plz invite me i'm always looking to gain experience.

Hmm yes. Had been a while since I used the areana and as Mighty here will tell you I was confused all over again. Coukd we somehow arrange a n easy to reach info on everything we need to know on arena? If only an in game email all about it we can send to everyone? Not the soloutuion but a star.
