PvP dead on defiant?

Hey all Powernova here,

Just curious has the PvP just died on defiant, I know arena was never that popular, but long time ago when some open event was held in arena everyone would flock there and have a great time. I personally though arena usage would increase over time. But its just a ghosttown now. To be honest PvP zones seem to be getting much quieter to.

Is there any particular reason why the defiant's don't PvP? I would like to hear your thoughts on the arena? What could be done to attract interest amongst the 50s for some high level matches, just for some genuine fun.

I mean union our comrades have much more PvP on their server, I would personally like to see more PvP activity on this server, we have some great players on this server and I think we owe it to ourselves to get into the thick of things more.

I don't want this thread to turn into, for PvP we need right builds we R teh gimpz0r, i get owned i r teh gimp, X and Y are overpowered

I would like to see if people are actually interested in some balanced matches, and hopefully boost PvP activity here.

Other than the brave few PvP in the arena was never that popular. If you want to find the pvpers I would imagine check the pvp zones, just a guess.

erm no..?i just logged from sirens where there is a massive battle going on in the middle!!?? 35k bounty collected and loads and loads of people and good fun there tonight.Except when certain usual suspect appeared on his blaster and spammed some [censored] on broadcast as usual and then played victim.

See TG is in Sirens, anywhere he is there's always a crowd.

First rule of PvP, follow the TG.

Ah okay maybe I wasn't making myself clear, yes i am a PvPer, I am one of those few who try and use arena when it is open but I am interested in trying to make the arena more popular and have more organised battles, Why in your people do defiant not use the arena? I had organized a few free for all battles long time ago, aswell as a couple of teammatches, but then again there is always a lack on interest in the arena why is that?

As for PvP zones, its a mixture, sometimes it can be real busy others it can't, yes it normally if TG is there it is busy, but if someone calls heroes and villains wanted in sirens for battle, most of the time no one is there to answer, along with anyone want a team battle in the arena? no one replies, look at PDs no one wants to fight them, they even offer to mix up players just form team battle still no one replies. Why is this? I just would like to know each of your opinions.

PvP is not dead, its seriously lacking and from what i've heard union is much more active.

I am thinking to create a series of events to introduce more people and more casual players to the pvp zones. A small idea i had was to try and set up with the regular pvpers broadcasts inviting people who want a fun relaxed night in sirens call to join our teams.Same from the villains side then fight it out for control.Maybe setup some prizes too like

-rookie of the night
-Kill record of the night
-Best cossie of the night

And stuff like this that would add some flavour to the PvP environment. Its a bit optimistic i know but imho if many people work on this we could see PvP picking up a lot i think and giving people a different look at it.

This would require the regular PvPers to drop the usual "spanking mode" and just turn up in casual toons for some good relaxed fun.I dunno but i think is possible then again i always was optimistic.

As far as union goes there is far more activity due to base raiding.Base raiding requires proper bases which in turn requires LOTS of PvE.So imho i think PvP zones are more busy in Defiant however the base raiding is more regular and established on Union. Judging by the posts on the Union boards it seems that a lot of SG/VG consider as PvP on Union Base Raids which is only a small part of PvP on this game imho

Sounds good to me man. Sign me up, i'll bring my crappy scrapper.

I think we also need to focus more on team PVP as solo PVP clearly is not suited for everyone. The most fun I've had in PVP has always been in a team. Same as in PVE really.

Well tbh if we really want this to work we ll have to count a lot on the hardcore pvpers of Defiant.PD's,HU,Sanity,Daggers boys,Ainur,ANBU etc will have to help all together to pull this through, that is of course if they are interested in expanding PvP population or simply let it die away

Umm..no, imo PVP != arena, arena is just part of it.. Personally I have never been all that fascinated about arenas.. It might be cool to try some duels or something but in general arena doesnt excite me..

Arena takes a lot more organising than a gert bundle in a pvp zone, and we're lazy?

Nail/head.

I for one was involved in a wonderful romp in Warberg the other night. It was one of those occasions where both teams were pretty much equal, and much fun occoured.

Well, I don't know the state of PvP on Defiant but I do think you may have a slightly incorrect view of it on Union.

- PvP zones: Are usually quite busy of an evening but there are rarely huge pitched battles going on. Usually more like prolonged skirmishes with 5 or 6 a side. I'd say there are probably as few as 15 regular PvP'ers in the zones, they just spend a lot of time in there and we have a lot of 'lets see what the fuss is about' players who pop in.

- Raids: Probably accounts for quite a bit of PvP on Union as there are usually raids going quite a bit, especially on the villain side(when they're actually working that is). However, it's usually always the same old suspects with there only being half a dozen groups responsible for the majority of these.

- Arena: Not as active as you may beleive. Again, there are 2 or 3 groups who are probably responsible for 99% of arena activity with the other 1% being made up of the same 4 or 5 players in single battle.

From what I've picked up from some of the Defiant players, I think Union does have more active PvP'ers but I don't think the difference in numbers is as huge as people think and it's more down to perception.

On Defiant, I get the impression most of the top PvP'ers are spread across just one or two groups. On Union they just seem to be more spread out across groups.

I also think this is a good thing for Union and here's why. If you have a core of 10 PvP'ers on Defiant, all in the same group, chances are they will always team together and their concentrated numbers mean they don't really have to look elsewhere for team members when PvP happens.

On Union, because some of the PvP players are in groups with only 5 or 6 of them, they are more likely to try and get other people involved and recruited so are possibly a bit more active at getting new people on board in the long term.

I haven't been to any of these test server events but i'm sure TG or one of the Defiant boys could confirm if Union massively outnumber Defiant but I suspect the answer is that we may have one or two more teams there than you guys which is really not a huge amount.

Yes, I killed it

Problem with Arena is that you have to go to the arena to check on a terminal to see if any matches are going etc. If you don't check the boards or have arena chat on and lets face it, the majority of players dont use arena or these boards. The thing with PvP zones is well they are PvP zones and for those that don't feel like using their game time to setup matches can usually head there and get a little bit of action in once in a while.

Futhermore you can use the /search feature to check the zones for players on your side. Now if you somehow could check the arena terminals without going there, that might be useful.

I think most casual players and pvp'er use sirens and the other zones to fulfil their pvp needs due to the easy access and no waiting or organisation needed.

Personally I usually PvP'd late nights and sometimes early mornings. For that reason Arena does not work for me as a casuel PvP'er.

TG I would not count the Dagger Boys amongst hardcore PvP'er

If some of the guys want to arrange some events to attract new people to the pvp & the zones, & if they will spread themselves around other teams & have the patience to play with some very inexperienced people, then I'll be more than happy to take part & join in & try to drum up interest etc to get people, who'd otherwise not ever really pvp, joining in & come try it out .

If "spanking mode" got turned off for a short while, & some evenings of good natured fun & laughs can be had then I don't see why a lot more people wouldn't want to come along & share in it.

From the comments I hear ingame about pvp, the main things thats put new comers off is those 1st visits where the spankings come thick & fast & the mockery & banter isn't so good natured. So you have new guys that really want to try pvp out, figure out what they have in their sets that works or doesn't against other powersets, but find the learning curve more like a learning precipice.
And when someone gets dumped off that precipice with a vicious spanking it's often pretty hard to encourage 'em to comeback. I'd guess with just a little bit of some early successes to tantalise 'em, people are far more likely to get a bit excited about it & want to keep trying. Personally I'd love more chance to learn how to use my traps mm more & my dominator more. The traps mm is seeming like a really hard one to be able to get just some time learning how to set stuff up, & move around, & often when I'm trying I just end up o the wrong end of a bunch of heroes who beat the snot out of my character in seconds flat. I know that the character can work really well in teams, as I took him to Sirens before & caused havok with the poison traps .
If there's some villain characters around that would enjoy mentoring a n00b mm or dominator in PVP then I'll defintely come along & join in .

Well this is pretty much the idea i had. To organise 1 or 2 nights per weeks in the next few weeks and assemble all PvP newcomers at Sirens Call hero base and Villains base respectively. Then spread the hardcore PvP players across teams with the inexperienced people and have some bashing going on maybe even at the hotspots for control of Sirens. While this goes on we can have the hardcore pvpers maybe helping out people and answering questions and providing help and tactics. At the end of the night we can have a "rookie of the night" award and maybe couple of more rewards for new players. Imho it can boost PvP attendance within the zones and bring more casual and light players to try PvP and get the adrnaline rush.

If people like this idea i can work out the details and make a separate thread with all details and maybe start promote it within game too as well as trying to set up something with VG's out there.

So true, I think if I was to step into pvp today without full knowledge of the power sets and how pvp works etc. I would find it incredible hard and would most likely get frustrated and turn my back on it. I can only imagine being a new person in the pvp zone these days...

Cool! I'm all for that . If everyone sets out with just the intention to have fun, & pick up some ideas, not only would PVP benefit, but everyone gets a chance to have some fun & talk to people they might not have before.

From personal experience, the best nights I've had in the zones were those where I've got chatting with total strangers & had some fun sparring in fun.
Most recently I ran my Dominator & MM in some skirmishes in Warburg against a tank & a scrapper. 2 players I'd never spoke to before, but had a really enjoyable time talking about powers & tactics & trying different stuff out.If that kind of atmosphere can be cultured in all the zones then there's no reason everyone can't be having as much fun in PVP as we all have in PVE .
If this goes ahead I'll ceratinly sign up for it, & will do my best to drum up some interest in my sg & coaltions as a start . I'll probs' try to bring my Dom' or even my MM to take part in these as I want to see what I can do with 'em, but I wouldn't mind swapping sides around when & where needed.
