Why do you enjoy PvP
I enjoy PvP because even at high levels no matter what archetype you are you can jsut have fun, I die loads of times and still find it funny, no debt so no worries.

So, following on from that, is there just as much satisfaction in taking down an enemy when there's no one else around, or is the pleasure of victory increased if your foe is humiliated in front of others, preferably her/his team-mates?

I just like to test myself against other players and have fun with friends
It really depends.
As my Blaster, it's a nightmare; I'm trapped with slaughtering people and then being slaughtered.
As my Controller, it's quite fun, but I need respeccing to follow people.
As my Tanker, it's good but the environment cripples my ability to Tank effectively.
As my Mastermind, it's a giggle.
As my Brute, again with the travel powers.
The problem stems with the Environment having too much effect on Players; you have to fight around it, rather than using it to your advantage. Basically, the E in PvP is too strong.

It's not the winning that counts. It's the gloating you get to do when you're standing on the body of your defeated oppononent, doing your victory dance... and when you can do that infront of hes/her friends it's even better.

One of the things i enjoy about PvP is killing the braggers and the people that cheats in PvP. Someone always says there the best Or Enjoys using the exploits of the game to gain an advantage against others . It just feels so good to put a stop to it . Must be the dark side of my Psyche and where Knight Stalker came from.
It feels good to know i dont need to say anything or big myself up
I enjoy being part of an Elite PvP team for any PvP event the fun taking part and being a crucial deciding part of the battle much more exciting than a 1v1 PvP battle with all the tatics and counter-tatics.
And most of what the other peeps say apart from the Biggin them selfs up.

First off theres a certain tone in your post I'm not sure I like. Anyway, to answer your question, I'm not really sure. I tend to get so focused on the current kill that his/her friends arent really important to me. On top of that, I havent had the trembling hands from this game yet, I was drawing from my time spent in the MUDing world. Hopefully things will get a lot more exciting sometime soon, maybe when I build my mob teleporting pvp toon cheap kills ahoy

Ah.. the trembling hands. Ive gotten that a few times

killing people in PvP while using about 99 inpirs and
taking on entire groups solo. Ive been getting trembling

Why do I enjoy PvP?
Simple really, days like today are why I enjoy PvP.

I play PvP because in a game like this, it is a challenge and not everybody can do it right. Plus, it's something to do when PvE missions end up getting repetitive due to the mob's doing actions that I am now used to due to playing for over 100 levels on combined characters, deleted and still going. PvP is basically a break from the normal game because it is a proper challenge compared to some PvE missions/street hunting.
I am going to have my medication now.

Things like the register of a paragraph are heard to explain, but its mostly the use of the word humiliate. As if I'm going out my way to make someone feel bad or look silly and gaining some form of sadistic pleasure. Thats the impression I get anyway.

Sooooo many reasons.
I am pretty much addicted to it I think.
1. The "Rush" it gives.
2. The stratergy involved. You have to think about what your doing.
3. The pople you meet, even the bad ones. Imo PvP'ers have more character than any PvE'rs.
4. Were else do you find players like Greek, Tyl, Frazzle.d and Lui all with one common goal? It unites people.
5. Meeting and talking to the above people.
6. Its diffrent EVERYTIME.
7. I cry when the zone is empty...
8. All the above reasons.
Everyone should try it.

OK, picture the scene. It's Sirens call on Union(Thursday 20th April for those who were there) and villains are getting a pasting in the centre of the zone and are massively outnumbered by heroes, the biggest number advantage I've seen as there was less than one team of villains but at least 3 hero teams.
Despite that, we tried to hold our ground but were eventually pushed back to the base. Regardless of this, we were working better as a team and even with the huge number advantage, we were still picking off some of the more noobish hero players as they foolishly got seperated and were picking up some good bounty.
Then it happens, I'm in a one on one with a troller and it was a pretty good battle with us both in the red and having held each other... Then 8, that's right 8, heroes all jump in and pound me. Fair enough, it's not arena and I was fair game but what was amusing was they really did seem very proud that they had managed to take adown a Corruptor outnumbered 8 to 1 who was already in the red.
Made a tongue in cheek remark over broadcast by saying 'good gank guys, nice to know you're that scared of me it takes 8 of you '.
The next 30 minutes then involved nearly every hero about breaking targets just to attack me EVERY time I was sighted. I kept up the remarks along the lines 'Nearly had you there X. Lucky you had your 10 friends with you ' and so on. There were actually some wittier remarks than that but I can't remember them .
In general, it was all good humoured and I actually decided to bait them by saying things like 'bet you can't kill me twice in two minutes' and 'Good kill, hope you got lot's of bounty/rep from me '
it worked quite well as the three stalkers about then decided to follow me around, knowing the heroes were like bees to a honey pot and they could AS them in their haste to kill me. It was also particularly satisfying that the one who was organising the ganking on me was taken down about 5 times like this!
What did amuse me though was simply... Why?
I was getting killed so quickly that none of those killing me were getting rep or bounty yet the stalkers in my team were picking off the choicest bounty targets as they swarmed over me. They couldn't have been enjoying the challenge as there was none. Not only was I outnumbered badly I'm new to PvP and still learning which brings me to the question of why people PvP?
For me, the fun times I've been having in PvP have been when the battles are at their most even. Doesn't matter if the numbers are even, I'll quite happily be outnumbered if my side has enough skillful players to make balance out and vice versa. If I'm getting pwned, I will normally stay around as long as possible trying to get that elusive kill on the guy who has been killing me every 5 minutes but as soon as my side is dominating through numbers or superior skill, that's when I'll get bored and leave. After all, what am I actually learning from it?
The other by product is, of course, a little bit more rep and bounty for those lovely SO's.
Seeing as I was easy pickings and offering no rep, bounty or challenge, what is it that these people were getting out of the battle last night?
Also worth noting that by offering myself up as the 'sacrificial lamb' and having the trio of stalkers picking off kills, I must have out earned those attacking me in terms of bounty/rep by at least 3 times!
Also found the lvl 25 tank complaining of being ganked as she was hit by three people VERY funny as she was in the middle of a group of about 15 heroes at the time and had been in with the mass ganking on us villains for at least the last 30 minutes!
(Even managed to find an existing thread rather than start a new one!)

I tried PvP and enjoyed it. But I confess it had me gritting my teeth. Fortunatly I know the symptoms and the minute it stops being fun I leave and go PvE.
But as one of the above posters mentioned when I left with Lil Kitten, or Techno Witch, and have around 4-6 heroes pounding on me, killing faster than it takes for me to reach the fighting area, then.. not fun.
One hero is good, Techno survives better than Kitten, but even with Kitten against one hero, even a scrapper, I get a fair chance of survival. Against two heroes the odds are heavily stacked but I can squeeze a few frantic (and enjoyable) minutes of dodging, shooting, healing, etc.
But against three, four, five, or as yesterday, seven/eight heroes smacking me as soon as I put my nose out, then no. Off I go.
The major problem with PvP so far is that the teams I find are there merely to share the bounty and rep, I rarely, rarely, raaaaarely see someone trying to take command and destribute roles, I rarely see the team waiting and trying to move as group, they go in one at a time, are picked off, respawn, run back.
Meh.
I'll still PvP, but holds are my bane, the usual 'hold and then two energy based heroes pound on me' is getting hold. I'll be forced to buy BFs I guess.

This is a pretty good question.. imo if opposing teams are pushed back to base then its a sign of supremacy from the other side and they might aswell pull back to 'downtown' area and wait for the enemies to regroup. Trying to gank the bases is neither fun nor very meaningful..

I just enjoy the change (at least when not playing MM, then I'm so squishy I've learned to not even bother with PVP), and, IMO, there's nothing more villainous than beating up a goodie-two-shoes (lost one of mine in the sewers) hero.
I dont do it often but it does get interesting playing against other people, I love the smacktalk, I dont take it seriously, I accept whatever happens as part of bein in the PvP zone. I have no idea why people take it so seriously as though they are trying to make a name for themselves.
I take PvE alot more seriously i dont want to be on a mission more than i need to be and i dont want to be fannying about going to and from the hospital because I am on a nightmare PuG team.
