Quote:I think you misunderstood a bit. I did not say that getting badges suck (although getting some of them can get a bit tedious and is not in my opinion as quite as exhilarating experience as some of the posters make it soundMoral of the story (according to the OP): Having badges is awesome. Getting badges sucks.
. I said getting the same badges twice or more suck.
-
I agree that "fun" differs from person to person. I do like to collect badges, don't get me wrong there but what I don't like is to collect them twice or more. To me that is just plain pain.
And as someone already so helpfully pointed out that we already do have "global badges" like veteran badges. What do they have to do with the specific character? It's not like that the character I create today has been around for four or so years. If all badges should be specific to the character, those veteran badges shouldn't be in your badge list.
But ok ok I get your point. Easy solution that should make everyone happy is to create a additional tab to personal info page that would show your combined badges. That way we could show the character related badges and also show what you have done as a player. I know I would be happy with that. How about you? -
The topic pretty much says it.
I wish we could have account wide badges. My main character has some 600+ badges and I like them all and I like to show them. It is kind of my in game CV.
I like making new characters but I really really hate the idea that I would need to get all those badges a second time. Anyone who collects badges knows that IT TAKES TIME and most of that time it is not specially fun. The amount of badges in the game is huge and in no sane person would collect them all to two or more characters. (I dare you to stay quiet insane people. I know you are there)
Only thing it would require is a mental shift and some coding from devs. (Don't give me the usual "It can't be done" brown stuff because everything can be done... if there is a will there is a way). Instead badges being character related accomplishments they could be personal (as in I) accomplishments. -
MA is just another stupid mistake like radio/paper misssions. Why travel and see the world when you can just sit on your fat [censored] and watch it from telly?
"Waste of an issue" describes i14 quite well. -

Yes well... as soon as you have collected around 500 badges in villains or heroes and do it with a second toon you can start looking down to us "lazy" people.
And hat comes to the little technical problems I'm sure the intelligent people in NC would come up with a way to separate villain badges visible to the villain characters and vice versa.

I do hope that wasn't directed at me... considering the badges on my toons. And no, they should not mark YOUR progress, there are specific badges for that, the Veteran ones. Anything else, as much as it may pain you is character related. Why should a toon who has never fought Carnies have the Illusionist badge? Or any of the other defeats? Or the PvP ones despite not ever having set foot in a PvP zone? Or the the Healing ones, Damage ones... on and on. It demeans their perceived "value" and cheapens them. If you really, really want them, go out and get them again. Heck, look at Salacious! He's crazy and I'd never do what he did/does, but that shows how much he likes and wants his badges.
If you think CO will do it any other way, well that path leads to delusion. Inside the time sink that are MMO, badges are another time sink that allows for the game owners to have players "waste" more time in collecting them thus assuring continued subscriptions. Yes, it's a though world. But I trust you're a grown up man and used to it by now?
Have fun on CO anywho.

You don't seem to get it. That is exactly what I am suggesting that should be changed. Shift the badges from characters to account. No point arguing how it would not make sense to blaster who cant heal if that is not the idea anymore. Get it? You are arguing besides the point.
We can agree to disagree. Nevertheless that is my suggestion and it does make sense to me... otherwise I wouldn't be suggesting it right?
CO will be another time/money sink of course but at least it is something new. And it will be fun for a while again until it gets boring. I think we can drop the CO subject since it has nothing to do with my suggestion and as a "person at some age" you can see that right? -

Ahhh, here we are...

Where? Does my anticipation of some other game somehow diminish the value of my suggestion?
[/ QUOTE ]
Just gives a general vibe of... "Do this or I'm leaving".
[/ QUOTE ]
You have misunderstood and tried to read some meaning in my post that is not there. Common mistake enough in forums. I am not trying to threat anyone. Just saying what I think. I will most definitely leave as soon as something interesting like CO comes along but I will probably pop back in CoX every now and then regardless of what they do with my suggestion. It would just make my visit more pleasurable. -

So collecting 500 badges and then also getting them automatically on the rest of your characters is not...Lazy?
Be proud of your collection. If you had identical collection of badges on all characters... How much pride would you have in it?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not lazy. Reasonable. Getting than many badges is a huge task and I don't want to do it again partly because lot of it consist doing hours of mindless grind, logging off, spending time in one area etc.
Anyways... this is my opinion. I would like to start collecting those new MA badges but I don't want to play with my blaster anymore (main badger) and having badges spread to multiple toons just wont make me feel good or make any sense. Maybe it does to you but again not me.
Why cant badges mark MY progress trough the game and not the characters I choose to play?
Having been here long as I collecting badges is pretty much only thing worth doing (and I use word "worth" very lightly here).
Luckily CO is just around the corner and will offer me hopefully something meaningful to do again. -

Event badges as global badges would be... Nice.

^this
But apart from that /unsigned
[/ QUOTE ]
Why? -
Suggestion: Make badges attach to account rather than to a character.
I like my badges all the almost 500 my badge collector toon has but unfortunately I don't like that character anymore. The thought of start collecting those pesky badges with another toon makes me want to poke my eyes with a rusty nail instead.
Sure it would have some "whiny aspects" like getting all the day job badges too "easily" but the fun factor would definitely out weight the whiny ones. I could continue collecting the badges with my scrapper that I like more nowadays. -
Need I say more?
Suuure the new kittie, bunnie, clown villains etc cheer up the game play a bit but if your not that intrested of reading the story arcs it's still basically the same mind numbing grind in the same old maps.
Im like a drug addict who isnt really addicted anymore but still keep poking with the empty needle because he cant figure out what else to do with the bloody thing.
Need a fix. -
You are not alone. I'm having the same problem.

Elitism is fine and dandy, until you mix it with stubbornness.
Always right vs. actually right = bad times.
[/ QUOTE ]
And which one would you say qualify as the elitist group? -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Now if we apply this to the game world it would generally mean that most people who have been playing a long time tend to know the game mechanics better and so have better understanding how to perform well in the game. Agreed?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's a common mistake for people to think or hope they know more than they do. Self included. I place teamwork around concept above performance (which is generally making things as least challenging as they can possibly become but that can be the result of a challenge).
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes that is a common mistake but not quite the same thing as knowing that you know more about subject X than someone else. -
[ QUOTE ]
Almost everyone I ever played with plays to enjoy it and are, or certainly seem to be, pretty good natured and easy going.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bah! I spit on you and your easy going friends! I rock and you suck!
I disapprove being labeled as an "elitist". That would imply that there are other people as good as me and that is simply not true. I'd say I was l33t unless I wouldnt despise people using unwords like that.
I ar Elite.
... and by they way I think that playing with "SRHP" combination is the best way to go. Doing it any other way is inferior to my way. -
[ QUOTE ]
Your using the word "sheep" there, to me that means they all agreed the food was good but didn't think so or atleast you didn't think they felt that way. Then you gave a subjective opinion based on what you think the majority would agree on.
Now by using the majority as a baseline to determine the clear rights and wrongs we are going with the flow, and doing what everyone else does and so become like the sheep.
Paradox?
[/ QUOTE ]
I used the word "sheep" just to provoke as I find it usually amusing. So call me troll. I don't think they all hated the food after all it was perfectly edible. I just meant that most of the people tend to keep the criticism to themselves because it is the politically correct way to do so.
Anyways... In this particular case as in many others there are only two ways to judge the end product as you nicely pointed out. Your own subjective opinion or your own interpretation of the majority's opinion. Now both of those can be debated to no end but I think the last one at least share some common ground with both parties.
If we have two restaurants which one of them is popular because of its good food and the one is not, we have a majority baseline and if I have happened to be in the same cooking school with the chefs in the famous restaurant I would say that I have a better view of the "correct" way to make food instead of the cook in the less popular restaurant.
Now if we apply this to the game world it would generally mean that most people who have been playing a long time tend to know the game mechanics better and so have better understanding how to perform well in the game. Agreed? -
One time my brother was making food for the rest of us and after the meal he was expecting "thank yous" and pats on the back for well made dinner. The sheep of course complied but I had to disagree. I'd had better and had few good tips how he could improve hes cooking skillz. He of course felt a bit offended but if you never tell the other part how much they su.. what they are doing wrong they will never get better.
He eventually agreed and admitted I was right. Its just getting over the fact that some people know better.
Of course you can't fight over individual preferences (well you can but its fairly pointless) over how much salt the food should have but if we use majority as a baseline there are clear rights and wrongs.
So if I'm tell you are doing something wrong it's not elitism it's constructive criticism... maybe just in not so constructive form. But hey. Feel free to give me some "constructive criticism" -
Yes well. "Fun" is subjective thing.
-
If it's not specifically forbidden, it's allowed. And yes some people (like myself) do enjoy listening the whining when droning someone for the n:th time or do some other nasty, against-the-unwritten-bull****-code, trick.
-
I don't know if I should admit anymore that I know you. Being assosiated to such no life noob as yourself is something normal people tend to avoid. But... the last time. Gratz. Next time it's over. We'll be over maan over I tell you!
-
I would like to write something insulting but I can't come out with anything that would top having 12 lvl 50's.
Get a life! One with... oh you know.. REAL PEOPLE! -
I vote yes for the unofficial PvP server where ever it may be... except the test server which I don't use.
