*/Empath
I'm saying Illusion simply because PA and Spectral Terror are "Fire and Forget" controls. You unleash em, they battle away and you can then focus on healing etc. Until the PA drops you shouldn't get any aggro.
Plus you get a choice of invis powers (great for Empaths) and a pet with knockback & a distraction power (decoy phantasm).
'Nother 50 project on the cards??
I've always got 50 projects on the cards!
I really enjoyed playing my controller (Ice/Kinetics) but I found that I basically ignored the secondary (apart from selfish uses - by which I mean healing me, giving me endurance and buffing Jack) so I'm looking to build something a bit more team orientated (and I suppose it's more in my head team orientated as kinetics can be very team based it just didnt work like that when I played).
At the moment I'm looking at a build based on empathy but I'm also considering Sonic and Forcefield. I discounted */rad as I just know I would kill the toggled bad guys by mistake
I like my Earth/Emp controller...I generally use a couple of emp buffs...drop a choice of volcanic gases, quicksand and earthquake...throw a few fosilises and then do a quick heal and then start again.
I lost count of the amount of times my absorb pain has saved someone in the red...I thouroughly enjoy my earth/emp...but then I haven't tried any other combination though so who am I to say...
I enjoyed playing my ill/emp. I am playing a fire/kin controller atm and that is much busier always somthing to be done. The ill/emp is a bit more chilled.
As far as team friendly went I choose to take the leadership pool instead of AP/Rez/Regeneration (health) aura so I would have more buffs on me
I'd pick something with multiple skippable powers due to most of emapthy powers being very good.
Propably fire or ice, possibly earth.
The only problem I'd have with Fire/Emp is the aggro it can attract you since all the AOE controls do a small amount of damage.
Illusion by far. They contribute the most even if you are busy healing.
Spectral terror, phantom army and phantasm. They each add something and it wont take your time.
A Paragon Defender
i agree with nightbringer, illu/emp all the way, all i wudd do is keep in the air with super invis and heal/buff as well as dropping decoys and spectral terror, the key is being able to heal without being seen

The exact thing I love about LDF, totally agree about Ill/Emp.
Ill is fine - try it with FF maybe....
I don't like Ill/Emp. But that's just me.

What he said. With Power Boost from the Primal Forces epic you can even heal more than empathy defenders.

Personally, I like my Mind/Empath controller a lot, being able to hold people solidly means I can reduce the damage my team suffers as well as healing them. With a decent team you can attack targets in small groups rather than taking on EVERYONE at once. Also, mind tends to aggro less so you take less damage as well
Only downside I find is that at low levels you have damaging powers but you don't really shine until you get both Mass Hypnosis and Total Domination to really hold large groups.

doesnt power boost have a much shorter recharge than power build up?
PBU is double the recharge of PB, but then again PBU is BU and PB combined.
thanks for the replys. I'm trying an illusion/empathy now... and also an illusion/forcefield if I can find the time

I personally try to discourage people to take it as well.
Illusion and empathy have too many good powers so it gets hard to pick up a travel power and stamina (when healing I always ran out of end). Luckily I could work around that problem because of my concept, but I think I must be the only illusionist who doesn't have Spectral Terror or Deceive.
never had such a problem myself, don't have deceive either though.

Indeed, I wish I'd chosen Regen Aura over Adreniline Boost in my last respec, can't cast that on myself. :/

Eucharion is rocking the ill/emp to 29 so far, and I love him. Great damage through blind/spectral terror, deceive is a fantastic power, phantom army are amazing for taking aggro/chewing through mobs, spectral terror is a great fire and forget soft control tool. Then the emp powers are all so good! I agree with it being difficult to find the powers/slots - i've had to drop superior invisibility from my build, as i wanted recall friend/tp to complement Resurrect. But with leadership in the mix too...
Loads of fun, a great team build that can solo comfortably from 18 onwards.
If i could start a new controller it would be Ill/Empathy.
My Ice/FF i would drop if it wasn't my first toon i rolled due to FF being really naff now and my ice powers taking an age and a half to recharge these days.
If you had to pick the best controller primary to compliment Empathy which would it be and why?
Not that I'm fishing to work out a new build at all...
