I thought it would be funny if...
What surprises me is that this is actually a business. I mean, wtf?

You know those emails you get about Nigerian royalty driven from the country and needing your help to transfer millions? Can you guess why those emails keep getting sent? Yes, there really are people out there who are that stupid. Every so often, one of them ends up in the news.
The kind of mentality that would buy an account off EBay is the same sort of person who would go to an RMT site.

Lol funny story.
I especially like the name you chose to give to the PR.
If you actually went to one of those sites you should scan your computer for malware and keyloggers.

I think that the funniest part is that the Nigerian scam pre-dates e-mail, and was actually accomplished with pen and paper back in the day.

[/ QUOTE ]You gave them a REAL character name?
You are going to get SO flooded with offers now.
You confirmed that character is active, and that you actually READ their emails. If they cared whether they were annoying people, they wouldn't do it in the first place.
I used the name "AngryPlayer" when i was talked, but yes, I gave them a real character name, on an active account. Currently my main, too. When I got online this afternoon, I had 2 spam emails, which is none more than usual.
I'll run HijackThis just to be safe, though.
Paragon Studios, thanks for all you've done. You've made this a great game, and a great community. I see this as six years well-spent. NCSoft, I'm seriously disappointed in you. This is not how you get or keep customers.

Good idea. This is why I don't use the internet on my gaming computer and only use it on my Ubuntu box.

Back in the day? Heh, my office got a nice official-looking fax with a very similar scam going just a couple of months ago. The chorus had changed to Malaysia but the verses were all the same.

Oh, lol, my bad.
Would of made it more humorous (imo) if you gave them some totally fake over-the-top name
Anyways, ya you should treat RMT sites like any other shady businesses. They won't hesitate to totally screw you over if they can.
My brother keeps getting his WoW account stolen, and im sure his frequent visits to such sites is one of the problems. He doesn't buy gold, he sells it hehe.
I have a friend who occasionally buys infamy and stuff. Seems like a good way to lose your account/get hacked.

Aye, especially if you have to setup and account with them before you buy/sell anything. A good amount of people use their game's account name/password for the registration..
A little thing people usually overlook.
I went to one of those Real Money Trading websites (I'm not going to say which), and chatted with one of their live customer service representatives.
I was irritated, because I received a spam email while I was just minding my own in Atlas under the globe. Normally I get them while I'm offline, and when I log back on, I have a few, but when I get them while I'm still online, it irritates me.
This is how the conversation went:
AngryPlayer: Why do you have to spam and send us spam emails in City of Heroes? It's annoying.
Call accepted by operator RMT. Currently in room: AngryPlayer, RMT.
RMT: hi
RMT: sorry for that, may i know ur server, char name?
AngryPlayer: Why?
RMT: we will try to solve the problem
AngryPlayer: Freedom Server. Character: Dertfer Brains
RMT: k, i will tell our technique person to solve it
AngryPlayer: Thank you. Just remember you can't annoy someone into buying from you. If they get an email once, they surely read it once, and already know what's out there.
RMT: k
RMT: yw
I figure I'll check back tomorrow to see if I've gotten any more spam emails than usual, which is what I'm expecting.
