Best AV soloers?
So Bots/Traps is still champ even though Poison Trap got 'readjusted'? Huh. Never would've guessed. You're probably decked out like [censored] though.
So generally speaking, /Traps is still epic for AV slaying?
I figured as much. I suppose enough debuffs will tend to render everything harmless and easy to kill.
If cost is part of your decision the I'd say Masterminds as well. Mine is Bots/Dark and very capable. Currently he does have an expensive build but he was getting the job done with regular IOs when he first hit 50 (although it was ugly, Silver Mantis is an example).
My Scrapper is DM/SD and also very capable. Even defeating Lord Recluse solo. He is, however, stupidly expensive.
Try out the typical AV soloer: Illusion/Rad Controller. Although soon, Illusion/Cold will be great for AV soloing, too. Ill/Rad can solo GM's, too. I'm speculating that Ill/Cold will be able to as well.
For combinations:
Illusion/Rad Controllers
Illusion/Kin Controllers
Fire/Rad Controllers
Rad/Sonic Defenders
Bots/all but storm
Sonic/Rad Corrupters
Fire/Rad Corrupters
And a few combinations of scrappers and Brutes.

Everyone knows Dark/Dark/Power defenders ROCK at solo'ing AV's! at least 4 in a minute if not more!

Keep in mind that I'm talking Villain-side Archetypes, not hero-side ones. Paragon City never really appealed to me.

To the people who suggested other things, thanks. The Fire/Rad idea is especially appealing to me. I'm not fond of Sonic anything, mostly because it gives me headaches and also because the sound fx are terrible.
Masterminds I could understand being easier to solo with, what with Bodyguard and all. Keep the suggestions coming, please.
I've soloed one AV in my life, on a level 43 Ninja/ninja stalker with about a 300 million inf build.
Scrappers [and stalkers and brutes] solo AV's because for them, it's JUST BARELY doable. I get the impression that Controllers solo AV's because it's easier than going and changing their difficulty down to Unyielding and changing it back afterwards.

SR for the win, but really any good mastermind can handle it.
Bots/FF
Thugs/Poison
Bots/Traps
SR Brutes.

[/ QUOTE ] If by a few you mean almost any combo, then you are correct.
... but you can't do it with a Scrapper running SO's with no inspirations.
I believe that is not true of Defenders or Controllers.

I'm not saying it's easiest with Scrappers or anything, just saying that pretty much any combo can do it. Spines might be the exception.
ILL/Rad Controller. AV. GM. Whatever.

Hi, my name is Northman, and I am an Altoholic. No wait, I'm Lost Nova, no wait, Arc Havoc, no, Dragon Moon, no, Lord Fury......
Why do people keep talking about controllers? Scrappers?
Please read the first post.
Red side ATs only.
My suggestion is Sonic/Rad Corrupter. I understand you don't like the Sonic sound effects, but you can turn them off. And that combo is cheap. Cheap is rare now-a-days. Sonic attacks have impressive in built debuffs worth looking into. With AVs, it will definately out-damage Fire almost definatively.
My second suggestion, also cheap, and great if you love MMs, but riskier because of susceptability to AE damage, is a Ninja/Poison MM. Again, the debuffs are key. Also, Ninjas, when focused on one target, deal the best dps of any pet primary. I <3 MMs, so even though it's a weaker build, I'd go this way.
Hope this helps.
Edit: Ninjas pets also have a regen debuffing attack. (worth mentioning)
I have an NRG/NRG brute that can solo Lord Recluse on hardest setting. He's all about single target fighting, so once the little helpers drop from the sky I had to AoE them down fast, but I was toting a full fury bar, so didn't take long at all.
I don't know how much I have in him, but every set is geared towards recharge redux (Don't have any Luck of the Gambler yet either)
The reason I'm able to do it I think is my End Drainer. It fills my end back up, and protects me from LR's end draining.
I cannot however solo GM's. They wreck me.
Tourettes
That's not debt, those are my "fury bonus points"--Stahlkopf
MOST amazing Brute engineer goes to: Ultrawatt. His SS/Fire farm build is SMASH!
Congrats to Black Assassin! Won 100,000,000 INF for building most survivable NRG/NRG Blaster
Seems like a lot of Rad/ and /Rad, but I haven't noticed that my Fire/Rad troller is particularly uba against EBs, let alone AVs. Are there certain Rad powers or techniques that make AV-soloing possible for those builds? Or basically just hit as hard and fast as you can and hope the AV doesn't break through your defenses too often? For a Fire/Rad troller in particular, you pretty much need to be close (for Hot Feet) to do any kind of decent damage, and that leaves you open to all kinds of nastiness--status effects, in particular.
Also, for the MM experts out there...how do you think Ninjas/Dark would fare? My Ninjas/Dark MM is at 45 currently and does very well against EBs. I don't generally run at Challenge Level 5, so haven't met any AVs yet.
(Sorry if this is a thread hijack. My main question applies equally to /Rad Corruptors. )

This tactic used to be much more effective than it is now - focusing on killing AV regen - but it still has a good bit of mojo.
Some rads just layer on the debuff toggles and try their luck oldschool.
Personally, I think it's a great toolbox, and I've used it several different ways over the issues. Only valuable advice I can give you is to focus on the strength of the several debuffs available to you instead of recharge and ease of use. That really applies to every set, when it comes to fighting AVs.

I think Ninja/Dark MM would do well against many AVs, but I'm not an expert in this area.
Edited to say: I'll add some quick specifics for you later. My head doesn't retain numbers well, so I need to look at my crib sheets to give any detail.

Some Rad Details
Lingering Radiation: Key Factor -500% regen 30s, recast 90s. With hasten and acc met, even without IOs it'll come up every 45-60 seconds. Also debuffs recharge and other nice stuff. Often overlooked, very potent vs AVs.
Needs rech and acc.
Radiation Infection: Rarely overlooked. Totally awesome in a bottle. However, as you know, doesn't protect you from autohits which often involve status effects, which often lead to a bad case of dying. That aside, with this, you can still reliably land your hits on most AVs and avoid most Incoming.
Needs to-hit debuff and defense debuff, maybe an end reduce or something special. Big common mistake, people slot with 3 end reducers on a .5 power which is often a surprising acceptable cost for maxing both debuffs, turning this monster into GODZILLA.
Enervating field: totally depends.
Acc Met: status resistance
rad aura: obvious
combat jumping, acrobatics, health - holy trinity of (relatively) cheap status resist and protection from pps.
damage wise, hot feet makes it harder. corrupters are self proppelled machines, while trollers, vs AVs, are way more dependant on pets because of the relative lack of hard control ability and the damage that comes with it vs AVs.
My advise to our blue side friend is to rely on his toggles to avoid avoidable damage, use acc met and power pools, and possibly IOs to avoid autohit status effects, hit lingering rad as much as possible, and cheerlead your pets while spamming rad aura and running around like a **** at the edge of hot feet trying not to get tagged. Though I'd drop hotfeet in a heart beat and just throw control for the low dmg if I felt it was safer.
/Traps is probably best redside AV soloer powerset.
1) Great -Regen power
2) Web Grenade to keep the AV in a set location, which allows a squishy (Corruptor) to depend on ranged defense
3) Excellent Defense and Mez Protection power so you don't have to load up on BFs, and makes it easier to cap Ranged Defense
4) Great -Res power that is stackable with enough +Recharge.
Works best for MMs as their main "damage" powers don't require constant clicking so you have time to use the Traps powers, and the Bodyguard mode (best used with Go To so that the henchmen say out of AoE blast radius) allows for more room to take lucky hits.
Any MM should be able to do it, though I prefer ranged MMs as it makes it easier to set up and keep them out of harm's way. You want to go next to the AV to put down Poison Trap, and doing that when he throws an AoE at you is likely to mess up melee henchies.
For Corruptors, Sonic Blast and Fire Blast are the two best, with Ice Blast and Assault Rifle (due to Ignite) in the running.
I remember trying to solo Siege with a Dark/Traps corr and being totally unable to do it. It may have been much more about my inexperience in AV soloing than about my powersets, however.

ohi. I've taken a break from CoX for about a hundred days shy of a year, only to come back to this game yet again. The changes leave me slightly confused, but overall content. That said, I'd like to know a few things since the game has clearly changed a bit and the guides haven't kept pace with said change:

What archetypes and powerset combinations are the best for soloing Archvillains, Heroes, etc.? Keep in mind that I'm talking Villain-side Archetypes, not hero-side ones. Paragon City never really appealed to me. Keep in mind I don't want to spend all that much Inf trying to pimp out any characters with IOs, so I'm just talking natural talent and synergy - not what it can do with over nine thousand percent recharge and a two septillion Inf build.
Thanks!
