I understand people wanting to move on. I understand not wanting to. I don't understand the lets-rub-salt-in-open-wounds mentality some people seem to have.
If you're here, reading this, then this experience has been hard for you so far. You may be processing that by feeling anger. That's human. I know it is hard to handle anger well, but please try to do so in a way that isn't hurtful to the other players here. As a human being, I entreat you.

The subject of the thread: I know nothing about corporate workings. I can't rightly speculate or infer. I'm glad there was some word from NCSoft, but I do not believe, on a human level, that they have communicated with earnest feeling to the community at all. I believe that such communication is respectful, and would be willing to argue it is an ethical responsiblity in this setting.
I am disappointed by NCSoft. Specifically, that they cannot have an open and respectful communication with the players when that would cost them so little.
Maybe they are not constructed in such a way that this is even possible without some rogue effort. I hope that other companies may notice this problem and prepare themselves so that they will not make the same mistakes, that they will be structured to have the ability to give propper diligence and grace to their community members in such an unfortunate situation.

Thank-you for the information, Mad Grim. This is what I get from going off fuzzy memories of late night forum reading. =)
If anyone else reading this can confirm about the stealth IOs, please do. Thank-you! -
Forgive my ignorance if this is a really stupid question.
Am I correct in remembering that stealth reduces threat generated? If I am, is this just certain stealth powers, or inherint to all stealth effects? By all I mean, including stealth travel IO globals.
Beast Mastery pets can take Runspeed IOs, and I figured if the aggro thing applies, that might be marginally helpful to a tankermind, trying to hold the aggro off his/her pets.
Would this work?
Thank-you kindly for any answers. -
Hyperstrike: That's a simple and obvious observation that just never occured to me.
I've saved up money, and decided that's the combo I want to play. I have not leveled the character yet.
I guess to level, I can just sorta go about my business and frankenslot a bit on the cheap, throw in a couple standard things that help like steadfast+def (I have a few laying around anyway). So now that you've clarified the choice for me, I'd say I'm more looking for a lvl 50 build. I've never had an inarnate character before. Was away from game a while. I don't know how long that takes.
So: a build designed for lvl 50, to help me through incarnate content?
Upon reflection, this style of play probably doesn't heave much place in that level of content. So now I'm pretty confused. So a couple of questions:
1: Can an MM who uses himself as a meatshield and some indirect mitigation and healing function endgame?
2: Is the only viable path for an endgame MM using defense/resists to directly increase the surviability of his pets (ie FF/Sonic) If this is true, I'm just Out of Luck.
3: Is it more desirable in endgame, large group content, to focus on buffs and party utility at the expense of standard MM pet-centered play?
4: If you just do what seems fun and run around with a not very group friendly build, will people still welcome you?
I'm really open to advice if you have any on the subject.
----
For leveling up I will stick with my original general concept but feel a bit ridiculous taking in your comment and realizing how obvious it is.
Thank-you for taking the time to advise!
If you have a really different build concept you think would do a lot better endgame, I'd love to see it (keeping to beast/pain). I can always switch back and forth between builds depending on what kinda content I'm playing with. So I don't mind if my lvl 50 build is not in tune with the concept I had for leveling up the character.
I mean, I suppose I could go so far as to run around with things like phase shift and hibernate etc, and just vengeance and rez dead team mates if I had to. I just don't know enough about this to make an informed decision.
Thank-you for taking the time to help. And sorry for my long-winded posts.
EDITED: for brevity and clarity believe it or not lol -
Thank-you kindly, Trilby. Looks like lots of fun. I made 4 or 5 builds on my own before posting here, and none of them are half as good. If no one else has a go, I will use this and spread your glory! ^.-
-
Oh, and I'm going to play this char up from scratch. So if you can fit in provoke early, that'd be nice.
-
Thank-you if you stopped in to help! I'm trying for a hit-me-in-the-face so my doggies don't splat build. Details below. I'd really appreciate the help. If I use your build, I'll use your name as my battle cry, and fill my char info with your praises. Really.
I have about a C- grasp of IO builds. To keep from making silly mistakes and wasting tons of money, I'd like your help! Oh, yes, I have mids, of course. So that's a fine format.
Restrictions: About 500-800m is my budget. No RP considerations. No Accolades or Incarnate slots. (I'd like to earn them with the build, not need them for the build).
Basic Strategy: Bodyguard + Provoke + AoE Healing. Possibly throwing in a switch off of Invoke Panic and Flash Freeze on alternating mob groups. I am totally open to suggestion on the way this 'keep my pets alive to kill you' strategy is achieved, but would like to stick with the BG + Provoke style. No self status protectin in Pain, I know, and I'm prepaired to suffer for it.
Required Powers:
Beast Mastery: Summon Wolves, Train Beasts, Summon Lions, Summon Dire Wolf, Tame Beasts.
Pain Summoning: Nullify Pain, Suppress Pain, World of Pain.
Power Pools: Provoke.
Travel Powers: Highly Optional. Ninja Run with empty swift, hurdle, and sprint is good enough for me.
EPP: Patron or Standard Epic is acceptable.
Powers to Include if it's not a huge pain:
Beast Mastery: Call Hawk. Fortify Pack.
Pool: A procced out Boxing or Air Sup FTW (No, seriously.) And Invoke Panic.
Chill Mastery: Flash Freeze
IO Thoughts: Procs do temp damage scale. Masterminds do sissy-girl damage scale. Conclusions: Procs are a useful way to up MM damage. Procs in pets can be cool for the same reason.
IO Dream: Leave 1 slot open in Nullify Pain for the Panacea Proc (and don't consider it for cost), which I will get 78 years from now, and die happy. I heard it (uniquely) does proc on those healed and not just the caster. If this is true, then this is my dream IO. If it's not true, then it's not.
Build Goals: Some survivability for self. AoE defence is most important, can most easily lead to a wipe in BG mode. Mitigation through things like AE sleep epic, or oppresive gloom, or the slot intensive Invoke Panic (open to suggestions). And procs make me stupid happy in low damage attacks and T1 pets.
Please share a build or give me advice! Thank-you very much for your time! Remember, if you post a build and I pick it, I will sing your praises in every flavor text I have. Oh, and I'll put an homage to you in my forum sig too.
Greatful for any help! Thanks!!! -
Without bothering CASTLE again, maybe you could help me by explaining what he might mean by inherent in *this* context? I just couldn't grok it. Sorry to be bothering everyone with questions. It's just something I fully want to understand. Then maybe we can integrate it or append the summerized information to a fury guide or something.
Thank-you.
Edit: Bill Z Bubba -- My guess is because of a really simple miscommunication on what constitutes an attack. Also, because it doesn't include the bonus fury vs powers, AVs, etc, which is how a lot of data readers have spotted out fury building. It really is interesting since I presumed an autohit attack doesn't have a hit-check, and also presumed fury was attatched somehow to that mechanic. I wonder what other things that effect others build fury but require no hit check (unless it's some kind of spagetti code hit check that's auto successed or something). It's all really interesting.
For instance, does stealth actually effect enemies or does perception effect enemies? In either case, how often is a check made and does such a check generate fury? (I doubt this but who the heck knows, really). We know that aura's that count for enemies effect them, in so far as they count them, and can be made to taunt, etc. I'm relatively sure these count as attacks and build fury.
All sorts of interesting questions pop up on how things work. I presume that no effects from *pet* type spawns could convey fury. Not that this can be done atm, but if ice armor existed like in CoV beta, and you put down a patch, its knock backs or anything couldn't, because they would be attributed to petatch and not you. (I'm fairly confident of the petclass restrictions, of all the items mentioned). This would include burn patches, whatever.
When an attack has multiple parts, is it treated as multiple attacks for fury building? For instance, damage and defense debuff. Is that one fury tick or two? What about attacks that DoT? Does each successfully added damage round of the dot at a fury tick? I presume the answer to all of this is no. But what if I'm wrong? If anyone happens to have figured out something additional, please do let us all know.
Many years later, there are still things most of us do not know. -
I recieved a reply from CASTLE to a PM on this subject. This is the full PM, including my posed question, for purposes of clarity. That way you can take away from it whatever you want and not whatever I happened to.

Does using the primary power taunt build any fury (count as an attack?).
Much less important: Do power pool taunts build any fury?
Thank-you kindly,

P.S. You're public on the boards. I'm sure you're flooded with pms. Should I ask anyone else instead?

When using Brute Taunt (the power, not the inherents) does it build up fury itself, like using an attack does?
I'm not interested in the benefits or drawbacks of the power and whether or not Brutes of any given set should use it. I know how it can be used to indirectly build fury by getting people to beat on you, etc. I know most Brutes never take the power. All of this is fine by me. I just want to know if the power itself creates fury when used, like an attack does (in example).
If you know the answer, please respond. If you are unsure, please wait with me for the answer if you are curious.
Thank-you kindly.

As someone who's watched many hours of bravo in that dark, scary time of day when "nothing's on", having been alternately saved and beaten down by 'Inside the Actor's Studio' like an abused wife, I have thought of hundreds of ways to answer these questions. Excuse the run on sentence, heh.
Anyway, though no one here knows me, I'll just go ahead and say what comes to mind right away. Some of the answers haven't changed since I first heard this questionaire many years ago, though. Especially the first. Is it odd I've had a favorite word, and the same one at that, for at least a decade?
1. What is your favorite word?
Nepenthe -- It's worth being a favorite word. If I had a word tattooed on my body, it would be this. If I owned a boat, this would be its name.
2. What is your least favorite word?
Faith -- A steadfast unsuported belief. A word for celebrated ignorance. No thank-you. When someone asks me to have faith in them, my stomach churns in disappointment.
3. What turns you on?
Faces. Hands. Being able to openly gaze at someone.
4. What turns you off?
Lies.
5. What sound or noise do you love?
The sound of a woman's boots clacking against the sidewalk in time with my own.
6. What sound or noise do you hate?
The sound of people insulting genres of music they've never even heard.
7. What is your favorite curse word?
Sweet @$#!ing Jesus
8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Swimmer -- I think it would be amazing to live half your life flying through the water. Otherwordly. And really... well, if it's cool to a five year old, it's probably a sweet job. Alternately, I'd go with being Robert Smith.
9. What profession would you not like to participate in?
Movie, Music, Game, or Book critic -- I don't want to ever look at the things that bright me joy through the eyes of a man seeking fault. It would be like watching a 3-D movie without the glasses. Just seeing the blurry mess architecture instead of the fun.
10. If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
"What? I've been served? Thirty-six thousand years of crimes against humanity? This is %@#!ing bull#$!%! The ICJ has no juristiction in heaven! Damnit, how did you sneak handcuffs and a gun past Saint Peter? SOMEBODY CALL MY LAWYER!!!

Female slaves are bad, but male slaves are okay? Way too double standard. I don't buy that as a reason. At least not a fair one. If they want baby steps maybe start with female zombies. Not a lot of sexual tension there.
And I'm pretty sure Singularities are girls. Just a gut feeling. <.< >.> -
Quote:Killing AV regen is often key. Rad has a very good tool for that. Though keeping it up forever requires a decent chunk of change, you don't need to do that to take a respectable chunk out of an AVs "effective hp".Are there certain Rad powers or techniques that make AV-soloing possible for those builds? [...]
(Sorry if this is a thread hijack. My main question applies equally to /Rad Corruptors.)
This tactic used to be much more effective than it is now - focusing on killing AV regen - but it still has a good bit of mojo.
Some rads just layer on the debuff toggles and try their luck oldschool.
Personally, I think it's a great toolbox, and I've used it several different ways over the issues. Only valuable advice I can give you is to focus on the strength of the several debuffs available to you instead of recharge and ease of use. That really applies to every set, when it comes to fighting AVs.
--
I think Ninja/Dark MM would do well against many AVs, but I'm not an expert in this area.
Edited to say: I'll add some quick specifics for you later. My head doesn't retain numbers well, so I need to look at my crib sheets to give any detail.
---
Some Rad Details
Lingering Radiation: Key Factor -500% regen 30s, recast 90s. With hasten and acc met, even without IOs it'll come up every 45-60 seconds. Also debuffs recharge and other nice stuff. Often overlooked, very potent vs AVs.
Needs rech and acc.
Radiation Infection: Rarely overlooked. Totally awesome in a bottle. However, as you know, doesn't protect you from autohits which often involve status effects, which often lead to a bad case of dying. That aside, with this, you can still reliably land your hits on most AVs and avoid most Incoming.
Needs to-hit debuff and defense debuff, maybe an end reduce or something special. Big common mistake, people slot with 3 end reducers on a .5 power which is often a surprising acceptable cost for maxing both debuffs, turning this monster into GODZILLA.
Enervating field: totally depends.
Acc Met: status resistance
rad aura: obvious
combat jumping, acrobatics, health - holy trinity of (relatively) cheap status resist and protection from pps.
damage wise, hot feet makes it harder. corrupters are self proppelled machines, while trollers, vs AVs, are way more dependant on pets because of the relative lack of hard control ability and the damage that comes with it vs AVs.
My advise to our blue side friend is to rely on his toggles to avoid avoidable damage, use acc met and power pools, and possibly IOs to avoid autohit status effects, hit lingering rad as much as possible, and cheerlead your pets while spamming rad aura and running around like a **** at the edge of hot feet trying not to get tagged. Though I'd drop hotfeet in a heart beat and just throw control for the low dmg if I felt it was safer. -
Why do people keep talking about controllers? Scrappers?
Please read the first post.
Red side ATs only.
My suggestion is Sonic/Rad Corrupter. I understand you don't like the Sonic sound effects, but you can turn them off. And that combo is cheap. Cheap is rare now-a-days. Sonic attacks have impressive in built debuffs worth looking into. With AVs, it will definately out-damage Fire almost definatively.
My second suggestion, also cheap, and great if you love MMs, but riskier because of susceptability to AE damage, is a Ninja/Poison MM. Again, the debuffs are key. Also, Ninjas, when focused on one target, deal the best dps of any pet primary. I <3 MMs, so even though it's a weaker build, I'd go this way.
Hope this helps.
Edit: Ninjas pets also have a regen debuffing attack. (worth mentioning) -
In honor of this thread, I will name my litch Sippy Cup and my puke mummies Stealth Buffs 1-3.
