May 6? Isn't this old news?
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
unsurprised
" I'm an angel. I kill firstborns while their mamas watch. I turn cities into salt. I even, when I feel like it, rip the souls from little girls, and from now till kingdom come, the only thing you can count on in your existence is never understanding why."
I heard about this a while ago I'm suprised no one else posted it o.0
((Slow news day.))
I'm not trying to flame here, but I wonder what my boss would say at work if I one day walked in and told him, "Hey! Guess what? I've decided to go on a space flight, sorry, but this is going to be 'fun' and I can't pass up the opportunity. But I'll be back, regardless if you approve of my leave of absence or not".
Edit: (oops, wasn't finished)
I'm not saying I have any idea if this happened or not, but none of us were there, and this could have happened, so I'm not sure its any of our business...
Tabula Rasa sucked anyway.
This is very old news. He launched back in December/January.
TR had potential but they just continued to [censored] down the drain in a stinking pile of crap. I was playing it for some time but finally got bored and sick of it. And Richard Garrot pretty much abandoned the whole thing to do what he always wanted, which was fine but tried to tack on in game raffles for pointless rewards. In the end he's [censored] because his stocks went down due to his own choice. So all I had to say then was, "you reap what you sow."
It lasted less than a day on my computer. The updates took longer than my time playing before I gave up and logged into CoH.

The thing to realize from this, is an interesting series of events.
He Sues NCSoft.
Paragon Studios comes into being around the same time (April 14th a month before the story).
So while NC Soft is being sued, CoH winds up out of the line of fire thanks to the Studio Spin off. Smart move from a business standpoint.
Of course Shady business practices, forcing people out and saying they resigned voluntarily, is an old ploy. I had an employer try that with me so I couldn't get unemployment (which I was able to and won all the attempts to stop it).
It will be interesting to see what happens, if any more news of the case is actually available.

See now, I'm one of the people who liked TR and sad it went away. I was in the beta too, and one of the people surprised a bit when they went live with it, since it wasn't finished. But not terribly surprised was pushed out in an unready state.
TR had a very rough and rocky life. It started out as an Aion like mystical high fantasy ultra pretty Korean-style MMO. After a couple years of development, someone decided they didn't want to do that. So they hired Richard Garriott, completely threw out everything they had done up to that point and made a Sci Fi shooter/mmo. The only thing kept was the name, and even then they tacked Garriott's name onto it.
So for another two years the game was in development while Garriott and his PR staff are promising the game to be the Next Big Thing. The second coming of MMOs. It will make you forget everything you knew about MMO gaming before.
And in the end, they were pretty much blowing smoke out their bums. Aside from actiony elements and the cloning system, it was pretty much like every other MMO, only doused in sci fi shooter sauce.
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what was promised and only really appealed to the cross section of people who both liked Sci Fi shooters and MMOs, instead of drawing people from both crowds like they were hoping. It certainly didn't help that it was pushed out early and not really complete.
Over the year it was in operation, a lot of the bugs were fixed, things were added that should have been in from the start and improvements were being made. But as usual, if you have a bad start in the MMO field, you get bad mouthed through your entire lifespan, no matter how much you improve.
Then Garriott went into space. NCSoft's bean counters were never happy with the performance of the game, because they wanted WoW level subscription rates, and they were lucky to get Matrix Online levels... They were less happy with Garriott it seems, and when the opportunity arose they forced him out. A big outcry was this was barely a month after them announcing that they were going to continue to support TR as one of their AAA MMO titles for the foreseeable future and hand no intention to close it. Whether that was two departments not talking about their plans internally or just smoke and mirrors, we'll never know.
Garriott got the boot and they made it seem like it was voluntary. They shut down the game and everyone who liked it was out in the cold. I suspect a lot of the reason why they shut it down was the name 'Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa'. They couldn't continue to use his name without him being there, so when they kicked him they had to flush their 5 year + investment down the drain.
SG Mate: Cien, what the hell is this Rookery thing?
RadDidIt: (interjecting) Dude. It's the Rookery.
SG Mate: Yeah, but what IS it?
RadDidIt: Silliness Incarnate.
2 folks from NCSoft - though neither actually worked on TR itself had some interesting personal blog updates at around the time TR went belly up. I thought the game was ok, even after the bug fixes. I think I subscribed for the last 3 or 4 months and probably played 3 or 4 times. (It was either ok, or I was too lazy to cancel it...) I'd say they are worth reading, if you haven't already (I found them on a massively post) - so here they are...
