Rad/Psi, Rad/Rad or Rad/Sonic?

Hey all,

I'm looking to roll an alien toon this weekend and take advantage of the Rikti event. I have a cool look down but I'm in the air about the power sets.

I definitely want Rad/ but the secondary I'm not sold on.

I've got a 50 dark/psi, 50 storm/ice. 23 rad/dark, 29 dark/dark and 26 ta/arch in the Defender section with a few controllers and corruptors that have used Kin and Sonic.

I haven't seen any rad/psi guides so I was curious how that set played out. I've never gotten a /rad up in levels because of the high science fiction like sounds it emits so maybe now is the time but I can see /psi and /sonic working well too with rad/.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Here's the part where everyone tells you to roll Rad/Sonic, because it is extremely awesome. Lots of -res. And I mean lots.

I like Rad/Rad myself. Rad Blast has some nice tools, and the ability to slot 1.5million different procs or so, give or take.

Never played much of Psi Blast. Though I imagine it would work well too. Think they used to be a big PvP arena build awhile back.

You can really pair anything with Rad and be fine.

I agree that everyone will tell you to roll up Rad/Sonic.

Personally? I love */Psi, but it isn't as damage heavy as Rad/Sonic.

I'd also toss my vote for rad/ice if you could be swayed, that build is brutal.

I love psi too, since you have a 50 dark/psi you know what to expect from the set. Rad/psi soloes fairly well, only had problems with robots and such.

Rad/sonic is a monster that can solo GMs plus you have soft controls like a sleep and a knockback cone. But your only real AoE damage will be Howl, which is great on teams because it debuffs resistance of all mobs it so your teammates can rip them apart. Plus it has Amplify (Aim) which Psi lacks.

/rad whilst thematic is certianly a little overkill on defense defbuffing, but any of the three are pretty fun combinations.

When you're fighting Paragon Protectors, Nemesis, Rikti, or Mako, there's no such thing as overkill on defense debuffing.

Hi, Im Tornelco. Im the guy that tells you to play Rad/Sonic. I can proudly say it killed the game for me.

Rad/ice is a nasty nasty piece of work. With the slows in both recharge and movement the shots they get off will probably miss due to RI and with ice storm and blizzard doing blaster level damage. Makes ya wonder how much they pay the minions in this game.

Rad/Sonic...AV killer.

Just out of curiosity, why is Rad/Sonic better than Dark/Sonic for AVs or general killing?

As I understand it, it's generally considered better at killing AVs because of Lingering Radiation and Accelerate Metabolism - those two powers make soloing an AV more efficient (and cheaper slotting wise) because of the recharge/endurance/dam from AM and the ability to keep a permanent -500% regen on the AV from LR.

It's not impossible (obviously) to solo with Dark/Son or Storm/Son or even Cold/Son, it's just more efficient IMHO. That's why Rad/Son is commonly known as the AV solo-er.

Rad debuff base
ToHit -31.25%
Defense -0.313
DMG(All Types) -25%
RES(All Types) -30%
Regeneration -500% for 30s on 90s recharge (so perma is possible)

From AM
DMG(All Types) +25%
RechargeTime +30%

Dark (assuming a single TG at any time)
RES(All Types) -30%
ToHit -43.75% (include fearsome stare)
DMG(All Types) -50%
Regen -50%
Regen -500% for 30 sec on a 180 second timer

So Rad has the better -regen, and the+damage from AM. its also fire and forget, drop both toggles and throw LR when its up.

Dark however has fluffy adding ontop of those figures, but has to use click powers more, which drops the damage output side of it.

There are several factors, among them in-set +rech, +dam and +recovery. However, I believe the most significant factor is that, with 1/2 the base recharge time, the -Regen in LR can be made permanent and even self-stack. The recharge time on HT makes that impossible.

I still think Rad/Rad is the best. While Rad/Sonic is an AV-killer, Rad/Rad is the Massive! AoE! Damage! machine of the defender world.

And I always prefer to use AoE when possible. After all, Irradiate, on 10 minions, can do 1600 damage with one shot. None of your sonics will ever come close, with the possible exception of Howl.
