Hello there,

I just thought I would drop everyone a "hullo" from the UK. I am a returning CoX'er and forumite and was active on the EU servers for about 3 years before leaving for WoW about 12 months ago.

I have decided to come back to the game but on the "other side of the pond" as I believe from the EU forums the servers over there are a tad quiet.

I look forward to meeting some of you in-game, just as soon as the updater is finished downloading.

I would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who happens to have also come over from the UK.

See you soon.

AM

Hey Animal, I've been here on the US side for five years now, welcome!

I hear that UK and US servers will soon be connected so joining there or here might be moot.

Not come from the UK (joined the game before there was an EU version) but I hail from Eastern Europe, myself. The US servers are pretty cool. There are a lot of them and you can understand people in ALL of them Well, most of the time, thanks to the rare examples of horrible spelling compounded by leet speek and lack of actual sentences, but that's besides the point

Welcome to the US servers. Expect to see people from all over the world here.

I heard that the UK and US forums are being merged, which led to a bunch of speculation that access to the UK and US servers would be combined, but I haen't seen anything official. Was there a post or interview that I missed, or is this still speculation?

Just idle speculation I think. EU population is pretty low as a whole though and it isn't helped by the need to provide multi-lingual servers which further fragments the limited numbers.

Well, one only hopes the services will be combined, but the EU servers will retain their location and support structure as well as languages, just allowing US players to access the EU servers and vice versa. And maybe some day the PlayNC store will begin respecting my wishes to have US merchandise shown to me when I only own the US version.

I suppose we'll have to see. I can only see it happening as a cost cutting measure and for that to occur I think the total number of servers will have to be reduced.

Having a fantastic infrastructure is fine if you have the player numbers to warrant it but expensive if you don't.

BTW, could anyone give me a steer on which servers I should be considering? My main criteria would be how busy they are.

Fewer RP'ers would also be good

I suggest you make a character on a few different servers and play for a few hours on each. Each server has it's own different "feel" so it's better to find the one you like. As far as population goes, even our smallest server is bigger than any of the EU servers.

For reference, Freedom (non-RP) and Virtue (RP) are the biggest servers and between those two servers they usually have more players than all the other servers combined.

/em waits for the Freedom-Bash-Brigade to enter the thread and start doing what they do best

If you're playing from the UK, I'd suggest sticking to the East Coast ones. The West Coast servers have a worse connection from Europe, at least for me, and while it may not be MUCH, it's still worth considering. I'll see about getting you a link to a list that says which are which.

Beyond that, I'm not a good guide for looking for populated servers, as I don't like big crowds (and the lag they bring).

*edit*
No dice. Anyone have a table of which coast each server is on?

Welcome to the colonies Old boy!

The natives are pretty friendly over here so you can expect a warm welcome. I've been here for over 4 years now and can happily attest to the fun people and times that I regularly encounter.

All that from a Brit!

The busiest servers are Freedom and Virtue.

I work at night and back before I played CoH, I used to chat with a lot of Europeans online and I have roughly some idea what your playing hours might be, so I would recommend you stick to one of those two servers. I work at night and often have whole zones to myself at 2 in the morning - unless I'm on one of those two servers. And even Virtue is sometimes a long shot, at that.

Welcome back to the game and good luck.

Virtue: Lots of people, lots of RPers. Pocket D is a disgusting place full of degenerates. Full of blowhards that think their RP fantasy world trumps everyone else's game experience. Eventually, someone will [censored] at you about ruining their half-gargoyle/half-elf catgirl's costume with your ice shields. Never a lack of teams. Lots of farming. RP can be ignored, but it's always there, like a maggot in an apple.

Freedom: Busier than Virtue. Maligned as "Freedumb." Not actually as dumb as Virtue, speaking percentagewise, but sheer numbers mean the idiots are omnipresent. Very busy, RP easily avoided. Lots of farming. Can be hard to log in during events such as holidays or double XP weekends.

All others: *tumbleweed* Yes, really, compared to Freedom/Virtue, the rest are deserted wastelands where people plan TFs on the forums rather than just pick and choose from the many willing PuG members who also want that TF. Infinity is OK, assuming you play blue and generally only play during peak time, otherwise, hope you like soloing!

Welcome back. Swede here and have never found playing on Guardian to be a problem. You'll run into Europeans on any server you pick so that shouldn't be a problem.

The server question. Freedom is biggest but as Emberly said, the idiots are as plentyful as the good players. You should know that the two top servers have so far had problems on the different events with greying out from time to time.

Freedom is a hate or love thing depending on who you ask.

I play on Victory, and only Victory. I have enough levels off Victory to maybe get 10 levels off them all combined.

I run one or two TFs during the week every week. I play 1-4 TFs a day during my days off. They're all random, unscheduled PUGs, either from my coalition's channel, or one of the Victory Badge channels. I turn down a handful of TF invites from friends each week, and ignore several dozen TFs that I'm not interested in.

And Victory is usually in the third or fourth from top position. Remember that the SLOWEST servers are at the top.

Granted, 75% or more of those TFs are heroside. Getting on a villain TF is tougher, unless you start it yourself, then it usually fills quickly.

Yes, I do like soloing, but it's rare I have to when I want a team.
