Power disappointment of epic proportion

Up until six months ago, I hadn't done much red side playing. I was a blue blood and that was that. When I talked a few friends into playing they were far more interested in being evil and since I was the one that brought them on board, well, Midnight Preacher was born. As he climbed the ranks of villainy, I decided Captain Mako was going to be my mentor. It was the power set I saw the least of and pulling out another weapon (the Mace) didn't appeal to me.

Around level 45, I saw my first Mako summons. This massive coral monster with a huge freakin' hammer! I was so sold on the look, I didn't care what he did. I talked to the guy in my group who summoned him at length on his coolness. The next two levels felt like forever. I wanted my own coral beast so bad!

Finally, the day came... I hit my mark, leveled my character and my fingers twitched over the button. I wasn't sure if I wanted to summon him into a mass of low level flunkies or just off by myself to be amused. I decided to get a recharge enhancement in there first... I mean, 15 minutes is a long time and I want this mass of awesome out as much as possible! So as soon as he was slotted, I hit the button and then... and then...

Out popped a guppy...

I was so confused and angry I just sat there looking at my new abomination. Thin as a rail, ugly, no hammer, no weapon at all in fact... Something ran by and he shot a pink mind beam out of his head... I nearly cried.

For those who don't know, and I wouldn't expect you to before hand, Midnight Preacher is a Corruptor. Corruptors get 'Summon Coralax'. While that sounds cooler than the more obtained 'Summon Guardian', I assure you, it doesn't look as impressive. I died a little inside when I summoned that fish-thing.

Shoulda went with Mu mastery and got the Mu Adept. You got your own hovering MU at your side not some little "guppy thing" as you would put it. I say you respec you get one from doing the patron arc.

Forgive me if this sounds snarky, it's not intended to. What you've described is unfortunate but the mission from Arbiter Rein (The one you have to do before you choose a patron) requires you to read all the plaques that describe, in detail, the Patron Pool powers. Apparently you missed the Archetype differentials.

That aside, the Coralax has some advantages over the Guardian. Most notable is the Psionic damage it adds. While it isn't much, it's something. Don't feel too bad, though. The Patron pets are usually skipped simply because they're not that great.

Sadly, reading the plaques is still bugged, and you can only read one, unless you log off and on between each one.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

If everyone can't tell, this should all be taken in good fun. Although I was really confused and disappointed in my newest aquarium acquisition at first, it's not like I'm openly weeping in the middle of some interstate waiting for the next semi of sweet release.

Just read it, picture it, be amused, post a giggle if ya want, and move on.

This is why i never take fish powers as an epic.

That and it rarely fits any theme I have (darkness, Electricity and technology are much easier to bind to existing concepts than fish powers)

I beg to disagree. What power isn't complemented by fish? It goes with everything, plus is low in fat.

Fish powers are the paramount of evil. What is more satisfying than knowing yoiur foe will succumb to the slow death of heavy metal poisoning. What is more hard core than being able to say that he died of "Heavy Metal Poisoning".

"He looked fine after that fight with the fish guy, but a week later he started to get pale. Then one day OZZY BUSTED OUT OF HIS CHEST AND BIT OFF HIS HEAD!"

All of my black sabath themed villians must have mako for this reason. Midnight Preacher sounds like a Black Sabbath cover band anyway, so more power to ya.

I guess if your villian is a stupid hippy you could make some kind of Phish reference. You really shouldn't, but you could. Phish isn't evil. Unless you're talking about phishing, but making a hacker themed character and taking the fish pool with it is sort of stretching the metaphor. Unless it's a Razorfish tribute character. I have one of those.

You were the guy blaming that corruptor on continually disconnecting you, weren't you

Midnight Preacher is a Cthulhu cultist... Or at least that is the only evil fish summoning thing I could come up with.

Of course, once I post this, we're completely off topic =)

QR: Granted I have only taken the pet power on my Crab (my other 50 is a MM so didnt get the option), but I love it. Was just what I needed to turn her into a mini MM. Really need to get around to lvling up some of my other characters to test out the other patron pets.

Poor guy...that does stink.
Make the AT that summons the actual pet ya want. Maybe your Preacher has an illegitimate son or something?

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

I almost always take Mako.

So few people really expect you to throw a freakin' shark in their face, after all. Who does that? I mean, really!

Me and Mako, that's who.

Though I do have a few villains that go Mu or Soul instead. Just I tend to prefer the ones that go Mako for various reasons. :3
