Seriously. Do something about this lag.
And what do you expect us, the players, to do to fix this?
That's all this section of the forums is. Players helping players.
Put in a support ticket with PlayNC.
On a related note, I've been online and playing for several hours now and haven't had any lag or mapserve issues. Considering my ISP is a wireless ISP that's a good session.
Perhaps the problems aren't ALL related to the game itself.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

This would seem to be one of those 'hard to track down' problems. I've seen several posts about it, so it clearly isn't just you. However, I was playing for hours yesterday and hours today and I never had any lag problem. This means it isn't EVERYONE either. That's the problem.
I wonder if it's an ISP problem and related to geographical location....

You got 1 stick of RAM?
I'd send a report if they didn't have such a poor track record of getting back to me. I think they are 1 and 5 so far.
Texas_Justice: This is a place to discuss technical issues with the game, no? You know more than just players view and reply to topics on these forums. Witty remark rejected.
PP: I have 2 sticks of RAM, each with 2 gigs. It's not me, It's the Infinity Server.

[/ QUOTE ] It could also be any number of internet nodes inbetween your computer and the server. I'm not saying the game servers never have their share of problems, but if they were as serious as you make it seem like, I'm sure there would have been another upgrade by now... not to mention the busier servers would probably be much worse, which they aren't.
Oh, I suppose it could be a network card going bad on the Infinity server. If it is, we'll see a lot more topics like this. I think it's more likely that some router somewhere on the internet is mangling things, though.
What Zloth said, and I'll add: There's another thread discussing using PingPlotter Freeware and the server's addresses. Do a search for PingPlotter, you'll find it. Use that to ping the servers and you'll probably find that your upsettitude is not to be directed at NCSoft, but at some quirky lil ISP's backbone server you're being forced to jump through. Perhaps trying a different, west (or east, depending) server would alleviate the issue... at which time you'll verify it's the route to the server, not the server itself, that's the cause.
As far as this goes:[ QUOTE ]

Yes, their track record is... not great. I'll freely admit that, and verify it. But, and I've pointed this out very much in other threads...
THE DEVS NEVER POST HERE. Not in this section of the boards. Ever.
I doubt they even read this. I've 20x6(*) challenged them to no avail... they do not even pause here, I imagine.
And as such... no, in fact, this is no more than *just* players (and community managers, these rednames do not count) viewing and replying to topics on these forums. Witty remark is confirmed, so far as I can tell.
Of course, if an actual Dev decides to show up in this thread... I like crow well done. Want to be sure thems are cooked real good.

Actually houtex, I think Ghost Falcon looks in here from time to time.
I don't recall him ever saying anything here, but I think he looks at it occaisionally.
And Super Martin used to look in here often. When he was still working there. I miss Super Martin.

i play exclusively on infinity and have no problems. no lag at all. unless im going to the ww in atlas then i lag until i get there but only going by the AE building. as i posted in your thread on the infinity server thread: do a disc clean up, defrag and virus scan and reset your modem.
I've seen a similar or identical problem playing on Virtue (almost nightly), Infinity (once a week~ish), and almost never on Champion.
As best I've been able to determine, there are a few sources for "lag":
[1] Server-side game time runs slower than real time. Powers appear to be charged (according to the client, which is running fine) but refuse to fire immediately and eventually you get "xxxx power is not yet recharged" error messages; everyone on the map or in the vicinity of a large player/enemy group is affected equally; even the enemies move and attack slower than normal. Enemies and players may appear and disappear, twist around after being defeated, run in place, and reappear far away after in-place running. See ITF Valley of Wandering CaLagula Legions and (sometimes) Talos Hill during Rikti invasions.
[2] Client-side PC hardware overloaded. Slow updating of the entire screen, animations for toggle powers (fire aura for example) are choppy. Ingame commands like /unloadgfx, PC upgrades, and closing extra programs can help this case but not the others. The /netgraph 1 command will be all-green during this type of lag, unless there are other problems too.
[3] Near-Client network delays and/or packet loss. Looks somewhat like [1], but you do *not* get the "power not recharged yet" error messages seen in [1]. It happens regardless of the region (east or west) of every server you try, and would likely affect web browsing and other online games. When on a team, you would be the only one who experiences the symptoms at a given moment, though other players in the same house or with the same ISP are affected depending on the exact nature of the problem. You can be easily affected by this during ordinary missions and soloing. This problem is caused by your router, wireless connection (if any), cables, ISP, or even the network nodes beyond your ISP. The /netgraph 1 command will show some yellow and red bars.
[4] Near-Server network delays and/or packet loss. Also looks somewhat like [1] and [3], but you do *not* get the "power not recharged yet" error messages seen in [1]. If you run two clients on the same computer, with one connected to a west coast server (e.g. Virtue) and another to an East Coast server (Infinity), their lag patterns will be different or one may have no lag. When on a team, multiple people are affected by the symptoms based on the network path from their computer to the server and which segment is the problem. You can be affected by this during ordinary missions and soloing, but the chances increase during in-game events or even periods of high internet activity in the servers' region (Infinity - east coast). The problem can be very close to the server (CoH's internet service provider, router, or even a network cable, card, or communication process running on the server). The /netgraph 1 command will show some yellow and red bars.
[5] Other. Not sure what fits in this category, but I can't prove it exists or doesn't.
Welcome to [3] or [4].
I have to admit... when I posted this I was rather angry. I could have jumped the gun. I shall perform the various tests to see if it was me. However, there is really no reason to assume it was... as I've talked with a lot of people with similar problems.
I'm not willing to rule out the ISP, however. It seems like a logical explanation. I use my Insight Cable connection... so it's possible it could have a fairly wide reaching range... but still only effect a certain amount of players.
*shrugs*
It wouldn't have to be your ISP, just a slow or flaky connection anywhere between your computer and the CoH Servers.
It could even be a fairly normal connection on one of the hops that is being flooded momentarily.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I'll point out it's not a question of *just* you, or *just* NC, or even *just* your ISP. For a while, every few months we'd have a period of time where we just couldn't log in. Lag out, then nothing but grey.
I could get to various places on the internet. I couldn't get to COH, or PLayNC (I had a friend posting for me.) Happened to a few other people - at first it seemed in the same area, then we got word back that it was a bit more widespread, but really spotty.
Turned out not to be me, or my ISP, or anything to do with PlayNC, but some server misconfigured and misrouting traffic from a completely separate company in between. Heck if I can remember their name, though.
Yes, of course there are the occasional issues with the servers... believe you me, there are *plenty* of threads when that happens. When it's just one or two here and there... it's usually a 'broken chain of internet hops' issue, or the computer/networking /router/modem of the particular house.
Texas, in the case of your supposition of Ghost Falcon, I'll just say this: Posts or it didn't happen. As in... "Suuurrreee they check in here..." Make me a liar, GF, or any Dev, for that matter.
/heck no, I ain't gonna go looking at the "who's looking" thingy... that'd be too logical and isn't the point anyway.

Don't think I want to go looking at BAB's, Castle's, DarkWatcher's or pohsyb's posting histories. I do think those 4 would have the next highest likelihood of possibly having posted in here. Or at least having read something in here.

just thought I would throw my 2 cents in. Last night on Freedom server we experienced a lot of map server disconnects in a short amount of time in the AE waiting room. Lots of people were complaining about it.
Using my laptop, I logged into my ISP's website and live tech support before I paid attention to the chat bubbles in the room because I thought it might be them (ISP) having network issues.
I'm in North Carolina, so maybe it had something to do with geographical location/ping/etc.etc..
I had just finished (2 hours previous) loading Windows 7 so, the OS was fresh and tweaked prior to logging in. My partners computer was doing the same so it wasn't a computer issue.
This was the first time it was that bad.
Good investigative werks, bofyas. And I gotta tell ya... crow is delicious with a honey glaze.

I did the same searches, except I didn't use any constraints on the dates. I came up with the same results. I was just too tired by then to post it.
For completeness sake, I searched Positron's posting history, and he has 0 posts here.

You're a real jerk, man.
The lag issues have been here since hte big "server upgrade". That's actually when they started.
When I want to be a jerk, I can certainly be one.
In this instance, I was pointing out to the player that this is not the venue to get anything done about the problem.
Also, I pointed out that while I have a notoriously flaky connection that I hadn't been having any mapserver issues or lag. That alone indicates it is not a game-wide problem.
Others have given even more information.
But, it's nice that you are so willing to share your opinion of me. It warms the cockles of my heart to know that I'm making an impression on the playerbase.

Heck, if they think I'm being a jerk they obviously haven't spent much time reading responses in the Player Questions section.
Even I'm not willing to spend more than a few minutes in there.

The problem is they haven't existed for everyone. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been mapserved in the last 4 years that wasn't caused by something on my end (or on mission 3 of the ITF, but that's a known server nightmare). The only lag I've ever really gotten was that mission, or a little rubberbanding when entering a zone (which is annoying). And that's with three different ISP's. That's why I think it's more complicated than just "There's something wrong with the servers."
EDIT: Wait, I do remember one other problem with lag, but that was a week on hotel wifi. My latency would go anywhere from 160ms to 12000ms. But that was on my laptop, and on a public wireless system, so I'm disinclined to blame the servers. Btw, playing with 12 seconds of lag is a new and exciting way to test your madd power queuing skillz.

I'm normally not one to complain.... but this lag is ridiculous. I log on a little bit ago and 4 minutes later I get map severed off the game. I log back on. It happens again. It's not even that busy on the server! And It's not just me. Several people are experiencing noticeable problems.
Seriously. I know I15 is in the way... and if it's because of the preparations for launch, I'm cool with it. But if not, this is a serious problem that needs to be taken care of YESTERDAY.
