Seriously. Do something about this lag.

What Zloth said, and I'll add: There's another thread discussing using PingPlotter Freeware and the server's addresses. Do a search for PingPlotter, you'll find it. Use that to ping the servers and you'll probably find that your upsettitude is not to be directed at NCSoft, but at some quirky lil ISP's backbone server you're being forced to jump through. Perhaps trying a different, west (or east, depending) server would alleviate the issue... at which time you'll verify it's the route to the server, not the server itself, that's the cause.

Do you have a list of the ip's for CoH servers (US)? or a quick way to find out (or both)?

Last week the LC problem was hitting many hard on Champion. Many peeps on the server channel would chime in the same thing happened to them, at the same time, even though all over the country.
I heard that there was some emergency maintenance late in the week and since then on it's been pretty much back to normal, at least for me so far.
We'll see how long that lasts. :3

And what do you expect us, the players, to do to fix this?
That's all this section of the forums is. Players helping players.
Put in a support ticket with PlayNC.
On a related note, I've been online and playing for several hours now and haven't had any lag or mapserve issues. Considering my ISP is a wireless ISP that's a good session.
Perhaps the problems aren't ALL related to the game itself.

You're a real jerk, man.
The lag issues have been here since hte big "server upgrade". That's actually when they started.

When the speed limit of the road is raised from 50 to 60 and suddenly your car can't keep up with the rest of the traffic that doesn't mean that the freeway is bugged.
When your county road maintenance department refuses to patch all the potholes in your local streets so it takes you an hour just to get 10 miles that doesn't mean that the problem is the new buildings that the city is putting up.
Just because you can't get a signal from your cell phone carrier where you live that doesn't mean everybody has terrible cell phone service.
And calling people jerks just because they point out to you that they aren't experiencing any of the problems you are will not suddenly cause them to experience those problems nor will it magically make your problems go away.

Although I have not had an increase, people that I play with on a regular basis have been complaining of an increase in lag, and random connection drops on Protector. I have noticed a slight increase in those cases where your power icon is recharged but the power is not.

I'm not lagging and my computer is 2 years old and at max graphics.
On a semi-related note: Is anyone having trouble downloading the update? I'm running anywhere from 30 to 50k a second. That doesn't seem right.... considering I'm using Cable internet...
I think the pipes might be clogged somewhere..... Just gotta know where....
EVERYONE is trying to download the update, so the servers or a connection before it gets to the servers is likely throttling the connection speeds and download rates.
Happens every major update.
Want to know where? You can try to tracert to the update servers. Someone, possibly Zombie-Man, posted the addresses recently and someone gave a link to the Wiki listing that gives the ports.
It does me no good to try to tracert anything as my ISP blocks it. Really smart to disable the ability to use one of the best network troubleshooting tools available.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Wow, okay. Sorry I wasn't able to get back here yesterday. My internet was seriously messed up. Both that and trying to download the update during... probably... the busiest time didn't help much at all. After about 2 hours of trying, I was able to download the entire thing. After that, I tried to access the game multiple times... only to get connection failures. There was something definitely wrong on my side, as I also seemed to have trouble accessing websites as well. It looks like my ISP isn't feeding me the information at a very good rate.
Finally, at about 9PM, I was able to get on. But my net was still wonky as hell. I joined some friends for the new TF.... and I think I DC'd 4 times. I wasn't even able to get back on to finish it.
If it persists when I get home today, I'm calling up Insight cable and giving them a piece of my mind. I pay good money for this crap.
*edit* However, I feel obligated to mention that even though my internet was screwy today... when I started this thread my internet seemed to be working fine. It cruised websites at the same speed it always does. This time? It had trouble even loading google. Seriously. Fricken google.
I was on last night and it was freaking wonderful..... This evening wow.... lag city.
I downloaded that Ping Plotter. Neither of the (east or West) are reachable. It goes Red at the 9th Hop..... Not sure what else to gather from that....
Is there an in game command for testing your ping?
The last 2 weeks i have had real lag issues, i've defragged, reset the modem, run a virus scanner, ran ad aware, cleaned my registry. done all the usual tricks and traps but still getting the issues.
I just want a way i can measure it for reference.
Edit
Actually, resetting the modem seems to have worked. Difference between the reset and before is night and day. I had 3 second delays on cast only 10 mins ago

When I posted the command earlier (9:47pm Eastern), I was getting about 125.
I checked just now (1:04am Eastern)... and it's about the same.

Now Moldy, if that little movie playing as your avatar is you, then you are an attractive young women and your webcam antics are humorous.
However having a 1900KB avatar isn't, it's abusive. Please change it back to a still or scale the gif image down closer to 80x80 than the current 300x225. Some of us are still on dial-up.

Question: Does the forum stop loading because of this thing? I can't see it, because I don't have dialup.
What happens to the forums, Father? Isn't there a setting in the IE/Firefox/Opera/Chrome/?? browser where the rest of the page loads regardless of the pictures? Placeholders? Something like that? Wouldn't that help?
Just tryin' to understand. Always learning.
/Now, THAT's some lag the devs could look into though, yeah?

If you are using Firefox just type about:config into the address bar. Then change the value of image.animation_mode from normal to none. That will prevent all gif animations.

Well it does chew up some bandwidth that could be used to download the other 6 pages I'm looking at, researching, replying to, etc. Also a browser doesn't open up an indefinite number of connections as it is fetching elements that make a page. If one of these connections is tied up downloading something that would take 7 minutes if it had the entire pipe, that's one less item the browser could be fetching to finish out a page. Some sites will simply timeout (was at one earlier today) if a page is taking to lone, in it's opinion, to download. On top of that I'm still trying to finish the 90MB download from Monday's patch.
The thing is I like avatars. It helps he recognize other people faster than their name. The vast majority of people on the forums either use no avatar or a small less than 10KB still. Those that use animated GIFs, a reasonably large majority of these have ones only a couple of hundred KBs in size. I accept this for the ease of recognizing fellow forumites. However there are a dozen or two people that I've come across in the forums I regularly peruse that have avatars larger than 1MB, maybe double that number between 512KB and a 1MB. The thing is most can be reduced to a more friendly size with ease but nobody bothers.

Got it. Yeah, doing 6 pages on dialup is quite a taxing thing... you must have a serious amount of patience. I think I'd stab pillows to work off my frustration, honestly... or probably do something else. Wait a minute, there's a thought... me doing something else? Novel.
Well, either the board or your browser is at fault for allowing such a huge avatar to be even pointed to without testing it's size first. Therefore, also obviously, something has to be done. I'm sure a government or two will be looking at regulating the glutton avatars soon, and the problem will be solved for ya.
/please, gubmints, don't... I wuz joking.
