No Normal Wings?
The Vet reward wings are exactly what you want. The Vet reward wings were put in first, as kind of the test for how wings would work. The other, craftable, wings cam later, and as such represent the 'closet case' wings in the comic book world. The vet reward wings likely won't change, because they've been a part of the system since it came out. It they were to be put into the craftable wings category, then people who have the wings on a character now, if they wanted to change their costume, would have to craft them first, just to get the wings they have now back.

Alas, you have a point. But still, they really ought to make such wings something of a standard. How many heroes trying to be classic comic-book heroes would have dragon wings, or bone wings, or little cherub wings? There ought to be some way to recompense the vets who got those, but even if not, the unfairness would be outbalanced, I think. They could just do something like make craftable wings like those, and make the vet wings able to have auras or patterns or some other extra feature to make them more desirable.
The unarmored Valkyrie Wings (come with the Mac Pack, that you can use even if you're on a PC) might also work, but would be gotten at a cost.

Actually, that's not how I remember it. I believe it was one of those cases where the developers saying something that bit them in the butt.
Positron had said at one point: "There will be wings in I8." When he said that, he was talking about all the Wing recipes in Inventions. However, Inventions had to be pushed back to I9 because they weren't quite ready. Thus, Posi took the two most Iconic wings and made them Vet rewards, so that his statement would remain true. Inventions couldn't be in I8, but there would still be wings.

That is the best solution to the OP's request.
Specifically, purchase the Mac edition for $20 (not just the item pack, but the actual Mac edition).
Apply the code and get a month of play time free ($15 that you would have been spending anyway)
As a result, get the Valkyrie wings and other in game items for the paltry sum of $5.
A good point, and I had been considering it before, yet still, do armored wings really work with tights? Not really.
I'm not really talking work-arounds, I just want this to be heard and considered. Few enough players use wings, but when they do use them, shouldn't they have a good selection? I don't really care about fairness to the vets, that's easily remedied, just that wings of the costume creator are missing what should be their most used option.
The ones without the littl hats on them (which I personally think look dumb) are quite passable as feathered wings IMO. Do they look as feathery as the Angel wings? No. Do they look feathery enough until you get your 15 month vet reward? Hope so.

One other way I've developed (though I hadn't needed to, since I've been around since before vet rewards came out, and therefore have always had the angelic wings) is to put the "Cherub" wings on the earlier version of the character. That way later on, they "grow" into the bigger ones. If it fits the character obviously. But yeah the Valk wings are a really good substitute.

Unarmored Valkyrie wings, if the OP doesn't already know what they look like. I agree that it would be your best bet until the vet reward.

There are two sets of Valkyrie wings to choose from. Plain wings, and armored wings. But you would have known that if you had bothered to do any research before posting.

Trust me, Vets feel the same way about you.

In superhero comics, how many bird winged heroes can you think of?
I can think of 4 (Angel, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and some other marvel guy I can't remember the name of >.> But I know he had them).
Really. In comics, winged super heroes arent all that common, sooo...why make them more common now?
That said, personally I prefere the Valkyrie wings to the feathered vet reward wings. The Valk one's just look better imo.

Thanks, I had been unaware that the valkyrie wings came without the armor before now, they actually suit the character I had in mind better than the angel wings. I am very gratified.
I still think they should have an Organic set of wings (made to match the Organic selections already in game) that is usable by all characters by default. I have suggested so many times.
They are veteran rewards for a reason.
As you have noted, they are greatly sought; therefore, a worthy prize for those of us that pay to play the game for a long period of time.
I apologize for my ignorance as to the set of non-armored valkyrie wings, which, even with research, I was unaware of. On none of the resource sites I looked at were there any mentions of them. I may have made myself look foolish (and I get the strong feeling I have) yet still, I am glad to have a satisfying answer.
As for fairness to vets, I apologize for my bluntness. I do care about vets, I just didn't want more posts talking about being fair to the vets. This thread was for the newbies to talk about wings, not for the vets to say too bad.
In short, I really don't want to make anyone feel slighted, I just wished that there would be more positive comments. I'm sorry, Forbin_Project, I didn't mean to be so disrespectful to our game's more experienced players. I simply think that vets should get extras as rewards, not things that should be defaults reserved just for them. So right now, the choices are to pay for wings, or to wait 15 months for them, neither of which seems fair when more specialized wings are very easily available. I wasn't speaking against vets, and I respect them for their dedication, I was just speaking of what seemed to be an imbalance in the game.
Consider how many other recipies are in the game for wings. There are only two vetran reward wings. 15 months isn't all that long, really. Plus they really are the kind of thing that DOES make you feel special once you've earned em.

NP. I wouldn't call vets more experienced, we've just kept our accounts active longer. There's a ton of stuff I still don't know how to do. You could easily know more things about the game than I.
Now personally I never really liked the idea of having costume pieces as vet rewards, but thats what the devs chose and changing it now wouldn't be fair to the people that patiently earned them. I can't claim to have waited for my wings because when Vet Rewards started I already had 24 months on my account.

There's no need for a 6-post newbie to apologize for not knowing about those.

I don't think it's fair to have made a number of things that should be standard into vet rewards. I had to wait quite awhile for something as simple as boxing gloves. If they made those available to everyone tomorrow, I wouldn't think it was unfair I'd think "well, that's the way it should've been to begin with."

No. They aren't stupid.
The decision to make them vet rewards is because they are a perk that won't unbalance the game in any way.
They are sold in booster packs because we told the devs for years we'd be willing to pay for extra costume pieces if they were cool enough.
They are given as trial rewards as a cool way to show that you've done certain content. Not everyone gives a hoot about badges.
Costume recipes are another cool way to make your character stand out in a crowd.

I feel the same way. If all veteran rewards were opened to the public tomorrow, I wouldn't bat an eye. In fact, I'd celebrate. As a veteran of 57 (or is that 60 now?) months, you'd think my saying so would mean something, but apparently it doesn't. I have access to all these things, and I still feel it's stupid and unwarranted to limit them as they have. Oh, sure, I have all that stuff available to me, but if I were a new player, I would certainly be quite upset and lacking all the things a new player lacks, both in booster packs and veteran rewards. Booster Packs, at least, one can buy NOW, instead of waiting four years for a pair of boxing gloves.

Actually, I don't think anything wrong with the trial/TF rewards, booster packs, or recipes. They're avialable to everyone when/if they want them (ok some might be level dependent, but you still can get them being a 1 month vet).
I wisht hey avoided them as vet rewards, even though my favorite is a vet reward. I asked and wanted belly shirts for so long. Was relieved I was able to get them when they were introduced.
Wouldnt bother me at all if they made them avialable to everyone tomorrow.
Still think the booster packs are a good idea. And I only use the cyborg belt fromt he first one.

Shouldn't there be a set of normal feather wings? I know there is one as a vet reward along with the demon wings, but still. Does it make sense to give us skeletal wings, dragon wings, even bug wings, but not normal bird wings? It would be easy enough to make angel-type wings be more easily accessible, and make the vet reward wings a bit more flashy. Have the vet wings be more feathery, larger, something or other. It just doesn't make sense, when there are plenty of comic book characters out there with feathery wings, and so few that have any of the CoH wings. It really makes it hard to create a bird-based character, and it just doesn't seem right.
