Migration to new Message Boards! ~Discussion~

I could do something like this in a short period.
I have plenty of server space, and bandwidth to spare.
NOT looking to set up a permanent board site through. Mostly because I can't give administration of the boards the attention it'd need.
But if we need a stopgap measure so people can get their forum-on for a couple days, I can live with that.

i think a few days with no forums will be good for folks.

Oh HELL NO! Gone are the days when I try that sorta thing anymore. Not that I COULDN'T, I just won't.

The board is still getting configured right now but there it is.
WARNING!: You don't know me from Adam. Also, I am NOT an NCSoft/Cryptic Employee and not connected in any way with them. I highly recommend creating an account with disposable info (see: NOT THE SAME INFO YOU USE TO SIGN IN HERE!)
This board is being set up as a temporary convenience and will be destroyed once the new CoH/CoV boards are set up.

I am a bit confused, do I have to do anything if I want to KEEP my name? (Ultimus) -- What if someone on the European board has this name, who keeps it?

Serious, I could probably do without for a few days. Figured that others might not be as asocial as I am. Therefore, I'll provide them with an alternate venue. This way we don't come back to massive forum-deprivation rage.

I shall be certain to sign up on your boards and create a gazillion threads about how MA is ruining the game.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Guys, the way I read these 3 sentences is that these boards will be down for 2 hours, not 3 days.
The 3 days is for further work that needs to be done on the other boards after the transfer.
I'm assuming that the new boards will open after the 3 day mark.

They're very happy with the boards, I'm told, so I hope it will go smoothly. In fact I had to remind Ocho that he needed to write some rules.
There is also the Titan network's forums, you know, with COH faces and all. We can descend there... heheh.

I'm not a big forums person. Other than these forums, I post on NFL forum...but thats it. I've gotten these forums down pretty well, but I wondering if I'll be completely lost on how to post pics and such on the new forums. Anyone know a link that can get me up to speed on the new forum system we will be using?
It'll very likely be just like these in most important respects. You'll log in, there will be sections, threading discussions, and search. Not much different from forum to forum.

Ever consider saving those as text files on your computer? Going from 300 PMs to 75 still means that there are 75 additional PMs that have to be migrated over to the new forum.

I understand and appreciate that, but the PMs that I have saved have much more value than simply the text contained within.

I don't know I haven't used it myself but most likely it's similar. Since all boards I've ever been on have roughly the same information - it'll just depend on whether they have a "board specific" theme or not. Most just use typical html code and [brackets ] instead of < these things>.

What will happen to the "creative" forums on the two boards? Will the be merged and copied to the new one? Dropped entirely? Replaced with brand new empty forums?
I have to assume that all the existing forum areas will continue to exist, I mean... migration, not slash and burn right? I havn't actually seen them I've just been assured by Posi and Ocho that they are "all that".

A similar situation just occurred on another message board I frequent. (except 72 hours turned into 3 weeks)
Some of the members set up a temporary message board at "freeboards.net" (something like that). It worked pretty well as an emergency stop-gap to tide us over until the real board came back up.
Would something like that be allowed? (Am I allowed to mention it?
