72 Hours without Message Boards? Oh God NO!!! What else is there to do on the internet? Maybe I can get an offline webcrawler and archive the boards so I can keep on posting.

If it is 72 hours and not just 2 hours, use that time to browse the Wiki, teach yourself Wiki code, and update and create new Wiki pages. They even have their own forums as does the Titan network.

Aw man, I kept reading it as a forum merge with EU and US. I was looking forward to stop making trial accounts to be able to post here.
EU forums are nice and all, but leaning very to the social.. and very little in numbers and game aspect.

Yeah, bbcode is bbcode for the most part. There might be SMALL formatting changes, but most boards are identical in this respect.

1. Save Your Private Messages!
To help minimize the amount of data that has to transfer over to the new forums (and decrease the amount of time the boards will need to be down during the migration), we will only be moving over the last two years worth of Private Messages.

I have written a tool to archive all of your Private Messages on the boards. All the nitty-gritty details, including the download links, are in a message posted here. I have over 500 PMs (including sent and received), and I simply didn't feel like going in an manually saving each and every one, especially losing formatting and everything. Hopefully others besides me will find it useful!
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.

I'm only ladylike when compared to my sister.
I just checked out the vBulletin board site, reviewed the functionality it allows, and perused several sites vBulletin holds up as "Site of the Month." I'm left with a profound sense of "MEH."
Then I checked out the European boards and discovered a super-generic style accompanied by a long list format I refer to as "everscroll." To be honest, I've personally put up a better looking message board than the EU site in both organization and graphical design... and I have zippo experience in board customization other than changing colors and downloading skins.
So if the new boards are simply going to be MEH + EU generica, you've got a winning formula for degradation of overall experience. The only benefit I'm hoping there might be is a boost in load speed.
If there was a discussion on the why of this change, I'd dearly appreciate a linky.

Guys, the way I read these 3 sentences is that these boards will be down for 2 hours, not 3 days.
The 3 days is for further work that needs to be done on the other boards after the transfer.
I'm assuming that the new boards will open after the 3 day mark.

I think they're taking the forums offline at some point between the two times listed. Doesn't make sense to copy the data and then re-open the old forums for people to keep posting.
Expect no forums for about 3 days.

The EU boards are not on vBulletin, they are on UBB just like these are.
The vBulletin boards we worked with in the I13 Beta gave a much better feel (IMHO) than these UBB boards do.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

.... This disturbs me on several levels.
I must say, I am disappointed about the decision to only take 2 years worth of messages.
For me, it's not so much the actual content of the messages, but rather the fact that rednames deigned to respond to me that I find important. That can't be replicated by copy/pasting info to a text file.
In a way, I liken it to the difference between buying a game in a brick-and-mortar store and buying a digital download from Steam or some other service. In both cases, you have the data/info, but IMO, the game disc is a lot more...meaningful...in terms of ownership.

Or go to CoH faces and look at kiddie pron...Man that site has gone down hill. I dont think the mods even look at the pictures. That or they like looking at under age kids showing what the got...nasty :-(

Some of the codes are slightly different, but not that different. There is a decent Help system built into the forums, but you should be able to pick up the most used features rather easily.
