Inf: Prestige matching offer

If anyone is turning Inf into Prestige I will match that inf. I know, I'm turning a 500:1 ratio into a 250:1 ratio, still not necessarily a good deal.

Limitations:

No more than 100 million at a time. (Your 100 million becomes 400K prestige. )
I may run out of money or get bored at any time. I expect to do this for about a billion inf.
I probably need advance notice to get the money where it need to be.

I would rather pay an npc to convert my inf to prestige.

I wouldnt want to inflict my sg on anyone paid to earn prestige.

that would be cruel and unusual. edit: <as I have learned the hard way>

Your efforts are noble and someone should definitely take advantage of your services,

however, the first time you went to the med bay you would go irreversably insane.

That we can't have.

I cant open my front door anymore due to the massive influx of therapy bills.

I wasn't being sarcastic ...I really don't understand what he's offering to do.

Is he offering to join an sg and convert 50 mill of his own influence?

I didn't make any judgement about you, nor did I say you were being sarcastic. I merely said it's a shame you you don't get what he's posting he'll do. His initial post doesn't seem that complicated to understand.

He said if any one is exchanging inf for prestige, he'll match the amount up to 100 million inf, effectively doubling the amount of prestige they will get, and he's not asking for anything in return.

He'll continue doing it until he runs out of inf or he gets bored, whichever comes first.

I'm assuming he wants to join the SG so he can confirm that the prestige exchange gets made. It would be easy for someone to say they made the exchange and not do it if he wasn't an SG member.

I think it would be a better idea if he joined the SG and made the prestige exchange himself after he verified the first exchange took place tho.

These are words of wisdom that Fulmens should listen to.

If the person accepting the offer has issues with upping Fulmens' rank, they can temporarily assign base edit rights to the lowest rank for the duration of the transaction.

I wouldn't say the offer was complicated, but it did seem way too good to be true to say the least.
It's not a matter of shame but more one of realistic honest skepticism.

Let's be fair here: While it's interesting to see that there's someone out there apparently willing to be generous and philanthropic enough to effectively give away a billion INF just to be "nice" to other people you must admit there are relatively few people out there who would actually do something like that without expectation of anything tangible in return.

What people choose to do with their INF is their own thing.
More power to Fulmens I guess...

True that....

But, what does he expect in return?

I don't have a Bill Inf to give away. (Not saying I don't have a Bill Inf).

But, What is he expecting in return?

If he is just being a nice and loving person as you say, more power to him.

I would not have the thumping huge SG’s I have if it wasn’t for the “infamy for prestige” program I practice....

this is what I do.

I give members that joined 200000 infamy for joining the sg...right out…no strings attached.

When they earn 10000 in prestige they get 1/2 mil in infamy.

When they hit 50000 in prestige they get 1/2 mil in infamy.

When they hit 100000 prestige they get a cool million.

So over a period of time I will give out 2.5 million in infamy for 100000 in prestige.

For a lvl 50 player it is very easy for me to earn that kind of infamy.

For lower lvl players looking for infamy and an sg it’s a good deal...

And before I get berated with ... I would just take you 1/2 mil and leave...that did happen from time to time, but it was far less than when people earned 100000 prestige and were given a fair reward.

I now have 3 sg’s with 65 million prestige, 56 million in prestige, and 13 million in prestige.

While I don't agree with buying Prestige at the Registrar (it's just as foolish in its own way as paying the "Buy It Now" price at the markets, at least in my eyes), I do believe that Fulmens is being completely up front and sincere in what he's offering here. I'm sure a few people will take him up on this rather generous offer to split the cost of buying Prestige, and I don't see anything he gains by doing this. So yes it appears to be on the level.

I may not agree with the practice, but kudos to Fulmens for helping some of those who feel the need to do so.

Actually I do understand what Fulmens is trying to do: Destroy excess built up Inf.

What is Fulmens getting out of this? That is also easy if you have read Fulmens' posts: Fulmens believes that excess Inf is driving inflation up. To combat this, Fulmens has come up with several ways to try convince people to remove Inf from the system. Fulmens is putting Inf on the line to facilitate this.

I have not a shred of doubt that the offer is genuine (until bored or a billion inf is reached).

If I had the inf to convert in the first place, I'd be all over this offer, since we're trying to upgrade our base plot (I ran out of things to edit). I still might, if Fulmens doesn't get bored before I can raise the inf.

Yeah I assumed Fulmens was trying to "prove" something by offering this otherwise altruistic deal.

Unfortunately the basic flaw in this premise is that excess INF can only really drive up market inflation in this game if people are actually -using- that horded INF to buy things in the markets.

In this scenario Fulmens is likely only going to encourage those who were either A) planning on converting their INF to Prestige regardless of the offer or B) were not planning on spending it at all. I have to think the overall number of people who were going to spend their hordes in the market but were persuaded -instead- to go with this matching INF conversion deal to be practically non-existent, or at least so small as to have no significant effect at all.

Again everyone's free to use their INF anyway they want.
I just think that if Fulmens is "experimenting" with a market theory it's not really worth the effort. *shrugs*

For what it's worth it's long been speculated that the point behind the INF to Prestige conversion feature was as a means to encourage the player base to sink their own INF to get excess amounts of it out of the game. Of course that feature was put in place long before the markets even existed...

Ultimately if the Devs really wanted people to be motivated to use that feature they might entertain the long suggested idea to finally make the conversion ratio something better than the laughable 500:1 it has always been. That way folks like Fulmens wouldn't have to offer this kind of selfless deal in the first place.

I get a number of things out of this:

1) Knowledge. Do people who hate 500:1 feel that 250:1 is a fair ratio? So far I don't think they do- people who take 250:1 seem to be people who are also OK with 500:1 . If 250:1 got me a ton of offers I'd potentially be able to make a case for changing the infrestige ratio. As it is... nope.

2) Inf destruction by the bucket. If inf gets turned into prestige it is out of the game. Inf that people are hoarding could get used for something else- costume contests, paying new SG members, midlife-crisis high end build, whatever- and it's back into the game. And it gets rid of some of my inf as well, causing me to make more, etc.

3) it makes people happy.

4) There may be some people out there who wouldn't otherwise think about turning inf into prestige, who now are considering it.

On point #2: Destroying ten billion inf is HARD. Doing it on market fees means selling a hundred billion inf of stuff. (or buying and slotting a hundred billion inf of stuff. ) This way is less work, although it burns through my personal money a lot faster.
