How common is AV soloing?

I think it's rather interesting that even the "easiest" AVs are stoppers for us without IOs (thus far). I'm certain other ATs can solo AVs with only SOs

If by 'interesting' you mean sad and thematically wrong, then yeah. If other at's can solo av's without IO's, you would think the at that was supposed to be the best soloing at should be able to do it.

I don't think it is at ALL sad that we haven't soloed AVs with just SOs, no temps, and no inspirations – yet. AVs are one of the toughest challenges in the game, and we're tying both hands behind our back and trying to go in and take them down with sissy kicks (except for kickmaster Martial Arts, of course). And so far we haven't succeeded? Well, duh? *chuckle* Still, I'm convinced we'll get it done. We're right on that borderline. It won't take much to push us over, and even just trying a whole bunch of times until we get lucky is one of the things that can push us over.

Heck, I could probably have a better shot at it if I dropped my current requirement for even-level SOs. Even level 52 SOs would increase my damage by a non-negligible amount (given how close my current damage is to their regeneration). But I don't want to go there until I've exhausted the possibilities with even-level SOs.

Boy am I late to work.

Can other ATs really solo an AV with only SOs and no temps/insps??

But yeah, given that very soon, we'll see the prolification of Brutes Hero side, I'm thinking its time scrappers got a little love in the damage department.

Yes infact Scrapper are the worst AT at soloing AV. Controllers and Defenders have been soloing AV for a long time now and with IO just make it that much easier for them.

Scrapper do not need any love in the damage department. Scrapper are just fine the way they are. With GR we don't know anything yet. The only thing Scrapper need is better epic powers.

I wouldn't say quite the worst. While Stalkers may have higher burst damage than Scrappers, they have lower sustained damage over time (which is what's important against AVs) and lower hitpoints.

VEATs are capable of soloing AVs no temps/no insps but they have a much harder time at it than Scrappers. And Kheldians? Kheldians are so bad I don't even think they can pull it off with a full tray of T3 insps and an entire arsenal/army of temp powers/pets

Powersets also make a huge difference. While the best Corruptor may be a little better than the best Scrapper at killing AVs, the worst Corruptor is infinitely worse than the worst Scrapper

I have a few toons that I consider AV capable (Claws/SR, DM/SD, Night Widow), but they aren't nearly focused enough to do it effectively. I don't have the sustainable damage to solo an AV or Pylon without getting bored first. Taking an AV down to 25% over the course of ten minutes isn't really my cup of tea, and tightening a build to make it a single target DPS monster isn't really appealling to me either.

Considering I've never seen any of my SG mates or in-game friends discuss doing it, I'd say the population is pretty small. In fact, I'd say the majority of people who do it regularly have posted about it here.

How do the AVs in AE compare to the AVs in normal missions? For example, on Invc, in AE, Manticore spawns at 50, but if I remember right, AVs are typically 52 in missons. Am I remembering this correctly? Are there other differences?

What's the community's general consensus on 'soloing AV' in the AE vs normal game? Seems so convenient to set up a small mish with the AV in question in it i the AE and then just go to town.

AVs are 50 in missions you go into alone with your difficulty set to invincible. So having your AVs as 50 in AE is not "cheating" in any way. Their stats and etc are the same as if you would encounter them in outside mission arcs.

Edit: In fact, I am about to log on and start killing Mynx, Back Alley Brawler, and other signature heroes in an AE mission I made ^_^

I don't think you can make an easy AV. Even if you made the AV with two standard level attack sets that are weak vs your armor (like FM/fire assult vs a */fire scrapper). They still have AV res and HP and high dmg output. If you don't have the build right, the best you can hope for is a draw.

Quick question... I just noticed that all my screenshots have no UI. I know personally which of these AVs I took down with no temps/insps (all but Diabolique so far), but... UI further "proves" things. Any idea how to change the settings so screenshots are taken with the UI on?

You can also set in the options a button to turn UI on.

As for AE AVs it really depends on the AV and how you build them.
I made a MA/Kin AV that I thought would be a beast to fight but he went down easy, then I made an AV that as Werner put "Was all the excitement and danger of fighting a wall."
He was Thugs/WP.

So, it really depends on each one.

50's: Heroes: Ozmeth DB/WP; Black Decker DM/Regen; Shado-Strike DM/SR Scrapper (13 AV soloed); Desert-Shock Claws/Elec Scrapper; Shado-Shriek Dark/Son Def
Villains: Bokken Nin/Nin

Make an ill/storm extreme custom AV. That's probably the hardest combo I can think of

I believe Iceboxer was referring more to AVs that one would encounter in the normal game, such Manticore, and whether or not killing those AVs in an AE mission was legit.

Yep, that's exactly what my question was. Custom AV's aren't really on my radar.

I've seen an archery/willpower av in a mission... archery was nothing to worry about.. but /willpower had enough regen that I couldn't move their green bar at all.

Superstrength is a very difficult primary for the typical scrapper build because of the +tohit from rage.

I'm not sure I've seen an illusion/storm... if someone has one, post the arc #.

Actually, you can with relative ease. First off, they completely lack any form of resistance, which very few dev made AVs do (much less most of the ones that we actually talk about soloing) which makes them significantly easier to kill. Secondly, most of their AV tier damage is heavily mitigated by the fact that, in your example, a */fire Scrapper with SOs has 75% resistance to all of that damage, making it incredibly easy to be maintainable, especially within the native damage recovery of the set, not to mention that you're going to set the AV to standard/standard, which is rather paltry damage.

One of the primary problems with AV soloing is that it requires a certain amount of survivability. With custom made AVs, it's ridiculously easy to attain that level of survivability because you're building the AV to specifically cater to your strengths, moreso than any dev made AV in the game is. Those that lack decent levels of resistance generally have higher commensurate damage, self heals, or other non-damaging utility powers, which isn't going to happen with a stan/stan AV that only has the most basic attack powers from 2 sets that you survive easily.

Also, extreme fire blast/ninjutsu is just evil. They can literally 1-shot you out of hide with Aim+Blaze (or Aim+Inferno); the DoT ticks beat the 1-shot rule. And unless you have +perception you won't see it coming.

They have a spammable self-heal, too.

Just nasty.
