Public Banter?

I recently came back after a couple year sabatical and one thing I've noticed is there doesn't seem to be any more banter on virtue. Once upon a time the broadcast channel would be full of the likes of Ascendant, or KillerWhale, or Kamui (cough cough) making quips and generally just bantering back and forth. Heck, who else remembers Ascendant and his telephone calls! Nowadays, though, when I'm on it's dead air. Or people LFGing. Although I HAVE seen some people role playing in broadcast (which is nice since this is the RP server afterall, even if unofficially) not to much witty banter. So c'mon folks! Lighten up!

People eventually stop, I guess. Have you seen some of the crap people say in Atlas /b? Some of it is tasteless and abusive.

My character would probably not be able to "quip" or "say something witty" but my soda-themed crime-fighter does say some cheesy stuff into /b now and then.

So, does your soda themed crimefighter have nuclear powers? Sounds like he'd use nuclear Fizzing to pop the bad guys upside the head....

How do you RP in broadcast? Does your character carry around some kind of public address system to talk to the entire zone? Seems like it would break the immersion that so many RPers are going for.

What passes for public banter on Virtue these days:

Hero X: How do I get to the University?

Joe Heroic: Sewer team forming, pst

Valiant Lass: lvl 42 tank lf AE farm

Captain Sparkles: lvl 52 Boss mish forming

Blandman: lvl 23 healer looking for AE mish

Gutbuster: Study, study, study

Pitchweaver: New to Paragon City? Looking for a place to hang your tights? The Punchy Paragon Paladins, a top 562 SG with full teleporters, a med bay and free shrimp Tuesdays and Thursdays are recruiting. RP is not required, but no one will team with you if you don't.

Joe Heroic: Sewer team forming three spots left pst

Gorrak the Rouge: lf AE farm, any lvl

Hero X:Can anyone tell me how to get to a University?

Princess Purrball: Costume Contest under Atlas in 10 minutes, over 25-million in prizes!

Captain Sparkles: lvl 52 boss AE mish forming, 2 spots left

Gutbuster: Nevermind, Hero X

Pitchweaver: New to Paragon City? Looking for a place to hang your tights? The Punchy Paragon Paladins, a top 562 SG with full teleporters, a med bay and free shrimp Tuesdays and Thursdays are recruiting. RP is not required, but no one will team with you if you don't.

Doctor Old School: fire/kin lvl 6 lf any non-AE team

Gorrak the Rouge: lf AE farm, any lvl

Hero X: Nevermind what? All I want to know is where the University is.

Joe Heroic: Sewer team full, sorry

Professor Ed Norton: lvl 2 scrap lf sewer team

Princess Purrball: Costume Contest under Atlas in 9 minutes, over 25-million in prizes!

Oliver Wendle Douglas Man: lf AE farm

Gutbuster: *sigh* there's a university in Steel Canyon

Princess Purrball: Costume Contest under Atlas in 8.7 minutes, over 25-million in prizes!

ETA: That said, I will try to throw out some witty banter and/or smart aleck remarks when the opportunity presents itself. The other night I was in Steel Canyon and someone broadcast something like, "After all, they don't call me 'The Midnight Terror' for nothing." To which I replied, "Really? How much do they charge?" Of course, as in my example above, my response was separated from the original post by three or four "lf AE farm" type broadcasts.

Nice work, MD. Though you forgot the random 12-year old who rolls up the most offensive character they can imagine, and then bounces around Atlas shouting racial or sexist slurs.

I am not trying to flame you here but not everyone back in the day liked the "public banter" and didn't view broadcast as the appropriate channel for RP and non RP reasons.

Atlas always reminded me of the Barrens Chat without the Chuck Norris jokes.

No, no... the Chuck Norris jokes are there sometimes.

Even back prior to launch, our RP supergroup decided that /Broadcast wasn't appropriate for RP, so I don't tend to RP over it. Some folks, like Killer Whale, RP as their character, even while taking part in an OOC conversation.

Ascendant is still around, and just as bantery. Play his Mission Architect arcs.

I don't really banter, but I'll join in on conversations or comment on something out of the ordinary.

I came across a character in broadcast in Mercy a week ago who's name was a common "Noun Verber" term with the first letters switched. I pointed out in broadcast that the name wouldn't last. He asked why anyone would report the name. I made a joke comparing how thinly veiled the vuglarity in his "name" was. He then goes quiet, and I get a couple PMs from other players wondering how old the player was.

Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.

Roleplaying, or really doing anything in broadcast that doesnt REQUIRE you to reach the maximum number of people to be effective (recruiting for a team, or a social event, for instnace) is not witty and cool, its asinine and inconsiderate.

"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. Anyone could have optioned out of them and not seen them, even when they were active. My understanding was that it wasn't their visibility, but rather that they were being added to the game at all that Whale objected to.

I never remember much witty banter in Broadcast. Especially in Pocket D, although the broadcast channel there does get interesting.
