AV soloist?
It's been done. Do a search for Silverado and check out the pictures of the stuff he's beaten with a Rad/Sonic. He's even got a shot of him soloing Lusca.

You don't need AoE def btw, just ranged.
Really? I thought a lot of AVs had AoE attacks. Are they mostly PBAoEs rather than targeted AoEs?
(I've never tried fighting an AV on a squishy without a Tank or Brute holding aggro...)

I am thinking the AoE's are either
a) rare enough they don't bother you too much, just radiant aura the damage away, or
b) short enough range so that you are able to stay out of the way and still attack
I have this combo and I love it. I have solo'ed some lower lvl AV's but im only lvl 29 so far.

2 things)
1: You don't need to worry about PBAoEs (like whirling sword)because you should never be that close for them to be in range. (There are a couple exceptions to this like Scirocco's EM Pulse with that ridiculouus 80 ft radius, but that can't 1 shot ya, unless you're not at full hp)
2: You don't need to worry about Targetted AoEs (like fireball) because as long as the target is you the targetted aoe attack will check for ranged defense not aoe defense.
My Rad/Sonic is at 44 and I'm thinking of using it for soloing GM's, since now I'm aware that it can be done. So, I'll just use this thread to ask some questions instead of starting another:
1. How important are Combat Jumping and the level 44 epic damage resist power? Are they both absolutely necessary?
2. How should the above mentioned powers be slotted, end reduction, dmg resistance, or an equal combination of both?
3. What is the general strategy for fighting these GM's? Are you trying to do some kiting, or are you up in its face screaming away? (I understand that some don't move, so I guess I'm asking if it's all distance or melee range, or if it even matters.)
4. Does your Epic pool choice matter? I've only seen a couple of builds, so I'm not sure what the preferred method is. I took /dark, but I'm probably going to respec for PBU and CE.
5. Are the IO sets a must, or can this be done with regular IO's? (I think I already know the answer to this one, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Might learn something new.)
6. What's the chain of events at the battle's beginning? (Start with RI, then EF, then LR, then right into the attack chain for the duration using CE, Amplify, and PBU when they're up?)
Either CJ or Hover are a must IMHO, they porovide excelent maneuverability during the fight. They should be slotted with 3 BotZ and a LotG +rech
Epic pool varies from player to player. Different defenders pick different pools for different (all valid) reasons

Really? This I did not know. So AoE defense is only useful for avoiding splash damage and PBAoEs? Thanks... you just saved me some inf if I ever finish IOing out my Bots/Traps.

Cones also can smack you down if you're in too close, but not too close for PBAoEs. There seem to be some other attacks that kick your a** for some reasons.
My Fire/Rad, who normally has no trouble w/GMs or most AVs, got killed by the Zeus Titan, and when checking the combat logs, I noticed one of his powers (can't remember which atm) had like a 24% chance to hit me instead of the usual 8.5%. He got in a string of lucky shots before I could RA myself back to full (I always try for no insps) and got me, the rat basterd.

Positron's i13 letter: We are trying to make PvP more accessible to new players, while giving experienced PvP'ers the advantage that comes with formulating tactics around the new systems we're putting in place. PvP from now on will be on our priority list. If something isn't working out, we'll be in there tweaking it and making it work, for the entire future of the product, not just Issue 13.
I've done this quite a bit as well.
And Silver has pretty much nailed it. Hover or CJ are pretty important just so you can move well, and like he said they hold BotZ and an LotG so I would probably take hover even if I wasnt going to use it.
Attack chain wise, for GMs its Just Shriek --> Scream, but if im going up against AVs I prefer Shriek --> Scream --> Electric Fence. Simply to keep them from running on me and it holds them at range making my job even easier.

i would personally not like combat jumping as much as hover (hover is what i use) with combat jumping youll be jumping around alot with hover most AV's will be stuck with about 2 ranged powers and you can focus more on where your health and end are and hopefully your ranged Def is up to par to keep you alive. and to answer "are IO sets needed" i would say that they are HIGHLY recommended =p

Okay, sorry to keep visiting the same question from before, but I'd like to be crystal clear on the strategy of the fight. Since we've brushed over manuverability a couple of times, is it safe to assume that I'm using LR to keep them slowed (and of course the regen debuff) and kiting while blasting?
If this is the case, do I lead off with LR to prevent them from closing the distance, or the other debuff toggles?
i open with RI,EF.LR in that order. RI first because it lowers tohit which raises defense. i use hover so LR for me is only used for -regen i havent noticed if the slow is really significant but if your using combat jumping id still use RI first and put LR second.
one tip i have not having to do with your powers is pay attention to how much dmg the AVs attacks are doing and dont think im only at half health i can just keep attacking because u cant keep attacking if your at half health =p (i did this when i first started soloing avs and got shotted by neuron lol)

You didn't know it because it isn't true. Fireball checks your aoe def if you are the target or within range of the target.

I thought that was how it works. I know you can skimp some on AoE defense since ranged AoEs usually don't hit nearly as hard as single target attacks, but I'd think you'd still want pretty good AoE defense since they do still hurt and every second you spend using your heal is a second you aren't doing damage.

I'm actually just looking for where the ranged/AoE defense is coming from. I got the rad/sonic to 50, respec'd, and I've already started putting sets in (Got a nice long list already... recharge, recovery, manuverability stuff...). I'm also trying to get a good idea of what other defense I should work on, if any.
I don't normally play Defenders, but I recently had an interesting idea. I was thinking that a Rad / Sonic Defender with high ranged and AoE defense and lots of +recharge could be an insanely powerful AV soloist, and possibly even solo giant monsters. You'd have tons of -regen, -damage and some healing to help your survivability, -resist in your blasts, and +recovery to help power it. So I was wondering, assuming an unlimited budget, is it possible to get:
Perma-Hasten
Perma-AM
softcapped Ranged and AoE defense
all on one character?
(Yes, I know an Illusion/Rad Controller with huge +recharge can go perma-PA and doesn't need any defense, and can solo anything in the game that isn't timed or the Hamidon, but I'm wondering if a Defender couldn't get close to that power level with the right build...)
