That would be really creepy, when you think about it. also you couldnt do that, because you might need a name change.
[/ QUOTE ]
One person's "creepy" is another person's "Bruce Banner to Hulk", "human to werewolf", "little girl to big power armor form", etc. In the comic book world there are literally dozens of examples where being able to change body type/size is exactly the key to a legitimate character concept. Have you ever heard of characters like Captain Marvel or Ranma 1/2 for instance?
Besides the idea that you might "need a name change" is no longer an excuse now that we ARE able to change our character names. That would be the least of my worries about this at this point. *shrugs*

Really the question is not IF can be done but WHY would someone want it done?
Personally I have no desire to change my orientation and can not believe anyone would. Sure maybe for RP reasons but umm why. I do not see this ever being done; now more body slider addition I want but this no.
[/ QUOTE ]
I always think it's funny when people in forums answer their own questions.
Just because you choose to limit your own character concept choices does not mean that -everyone- wants to be limited in that way. If the Devs ever allow it you simply don't need to do it yourself. *shrugs*

Brings whole new meaning to City of Heroes :: Going Rouge!
I guess some people weren't wrong when they were misspelling it. Why not change sexes if you can change sides?
I doubt DCUO will try to match it!
I doubt my characters will do either, but for some...they can have their fun too.
But how exactly would the mechanics work?
Seems a bit overly simple just to go to the tailor for a little snippy-snip and some sewing.
...but then, maybe some are going the easy route and simply cross-dressing...

Edit: Just realized I misunderstood the post I replied to, and really have no comment to it, because it's something I find ignorably "eye roll-able"
If there is a technical reason that height/body type can't be switched within costume slots, there should be a height/body respec feature so that you can at least reset your costume.

As IanTheM1 aptly described the ability/possibility for a character body type change is absolutely in keeping with what is possible and acceptable in the "comic book" genre.
Again just because you might not chose to take advantage of such a feature does not mean there is anything "wrong" with it in the least for a comic book MMO. I might not even do my own "Superman to Superwoman" style change myself with any of my own characters, but I'm certainly not going to be small-minded enough to deny my support of character concept freedom to anyone else.

I highly suspect that IF model changes end up happening, they'll be a total conversion, meaning you can't have one slot be Huge, another Male and another Female. You just do a full switch. At least, that's how I see it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Would be kind of a waste to do, then.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which is likely why it hasn't happened. Not much point to making it, as people don't often get their gender wrong at character creation. Full model swaps are one thing, but they don't alter the record of your character in the database. If we haven't been allowed to do it yet, then I'd say altering it is not a trivial matter.
[/ QUOTE ]While I realize most people asking for it want per-costume genders, I don't think per-character gender changing is entirely unreasonable. I believe you can purchase a gender change in Guild Wars in the NCSoft store, so there's at least enough demand there for it to put a real-world price on it. Of course, I realize that GW is a different game, with different needs and capabilities (infinite and free re-speccing and no costume slots comes to mind), but hey.

One thing to consider when comparing this game to other games offering body type changes is that because this is a "comic book" oriented game there is likely more character concept motivation to have easily switchable body types here than elsewhere. When you think about it how many other MMOs out there even provide for the concept of having multiple costume slots in the first place? Probably not too many.
So while other games like GW allow for purchasable global gender changes you have to realize why that's fine for that game but is probably not as acceptable for CoX. In a game like GW you are probably not creating "superhero" like character concepts where doing switches like Bruce Banner does to become The Hulk would make any sense there.
I imagine it'd be relatively trivial for our Devs to offer us GW-style body type changes for our characters which would affect all the costume slots of a given character permanently. But the nature of this comic book game would make that solution less useful to us than it might be to players of other games. Because that simple GW-style method wouldn't really provide the answer most of us are looking for (allowing for each costume slot to have its own body type) our Devs have probably (and unfortunately) decided not to tackle this issue at all for the time being.

This is one of those issues that a few people would be interested in but not enough to warrant the change.
Considering all of the hard coding that goes into a character's frame (see 'why we can't change height') I'd be willing to bet the only way to do this would be some sort of weird xp transfer system. Basically you buy the change (just like a name change) and doing so saves your toon as they are at that moment. Then you delete the old one and create the new one with the new gender and the exact same name. Then you Load the saved stuff you had before and now your new toon has everything they had before but with a new gender. It would also act as a respec though since you'd have to retrain up.
I'd be shocked if the Devs could pull it off with anything short of this level of mechanation.

Why not allow it at the tailor so folks with male widows can have buttcapes and folks can RP (I know, lolz RP) shape shifting/master of disguise/etc. toons without having a real in game advantage/disadvantage. Maybe charge 2x inf or something but I'd "/signed" this.

I'm going to put in my 2 pennies here, for real this time.
City of Heroes has a Strong Comic book feel. But there's also a certain amount of anime-tasticness and plenty of Fantasy derived material.
Having players able to change their model between costumes would allow for Player Character Shapeshifters, Dr. Jekyll and Hyde transformations, Gender-Bender characters, and more.
Not everyone would use this feature for those purposes, however. Some might use it for 'Legacy Characters'. Captain Marvel has been male, female, black, white. Lots of things. How many Earth based 'Green Lantern' characters are there?
How about the various Sailor Moon characters that change gender? The Sailor Stars, for example. They're the only 'legitamate' ones, anyway. All the others had their gender changed because Saiban didn't want to deal with homosexuality.
The point is this. There are plenty of reasons to allow characters to change gender, size, shape, and height. There aren't many reasons they -shouldn't-. If the code can be alered I'd be 100% for this change.
But yes. I would have a one-time in game fee per body-type change that could NOT be removed by use of Free Tailor session.

Sorry if this has been covered since, but this is the latest thread that came up in the search. Has there been any word yet in the last year?
Yeah, this should be done.
There are two concepts in marvel alone that directly pull from this option, Morph and Mystique as well probably a very long list of shape changers.
There are other options such as the huge form for mechs and were-wolves as mentioned already.
This needs to be brought back up if it hasn't been already.
The best way to handle this is to leave it a costume change. Their listed gender is the same unless they buy a token, but with that token all the gender based badges would be stripped. Deleting selected badge, probably wouldn't be too hard to pull off, but I wouldn't know for sure.
First off, thread necro'ing is bad, mmmkay?
Secondly, if you want to do this, buy the Science booster pack. As part of it, you can go to the tailors, or facemakers, and go to one of the super tailors, and change your gender.

I personally think its a complete waste of time. I mean come on, don't want to reroll your 50 to make him a her? What else are you gonna do in this game? This game is all about rerolling and making another alt or 12.
[/ QUOTE ]
In my 5+ years of playing this game I have never rerolled a character that was beyond level 30. Of course I roll alts, but never with the same concept in mind. Why do you think I have 150 alts across all eleven servers?
Concept is my main argument for model changing.
I want to play a shape shifter who can look like anyone at any time. I can't do this since I can't change models.
I want to play a werewolf that actually looks transformed. The best I can do is slap some new textures on the same male model and tweak some of the slider settings.
I want to be able to change a character whose concept was altered without having to reroll and start from scratch.
