Acronym for Story-focused arcs for easy search

The JSNTS thread made me think that maybe a similar tag could be used by us creative types in our arc descriptions so that people searching could easily find story-focused arcs. The MA advanced search site is of course useful for this type of search (and can be found at www.masearch.somee.com) but an in-game aid would also be useful i think.

I have added [SFMA], for Story Focussed Mission Arc, to the description field of my arc, and if any other MA authors who favour story over the more mechanistic aspects of what the MA can do add it too, I for one will find them and play them when they appear.

Er, does this sound like a good idea?

It's a great idea. The problem will be getting it standardized by the entire community.

Personally, I'm hoping for an actual metadata / tagging structure to be added to the system, with a limited taxonomy.

(Translation from geekspeak: let us pick things like "Story Focused" and/or "Challenge Arc" and/or "Lotsa AVs" and/or "Parody" and/or "Scifi" etc.)

How about a tag/acronym for people who aren't so much looking for stories, and are more looking for fun and effective adventuring? Something like:

Fast Acting Running Maximally

...or something...

I'd love to be able to search via tags.

Really, I'm kind of disappointed by the search system in general. There's no way of finding decent arcs in-game. Except I guess dev choice. That's like 15 out of 100,000 mission arcs or so.

The danger is that, after the JSNTS debacle, you may get griefed by people who think it's a voting-ring thing instead of just a tag.

Better use a full word tag, I've been adding (Tags: this, that, those) to my arc descriptions. I'd say go with "Storytelling" or something like that. I'd recommend avoiding acronyms.

The problem with that is that the more full-word descriptions you have to use, the less and less room you have left for an actual description.

First you have to decide on the categories, then you can decide on abbreviated words for those tags. Personally, I would rather see short word descripions over acronyms. Something like.

(Q-ish R)

I ran across this tag earlier today while thumbing through MA arcs and at first had the same suspicion Aliana_Blue mentioned, but reading the descriptions suggested otherwise. Realized what it had been when I saw this thread's title. My arc's got a lot of writing but its focus is less the story and more aimed at provoking a roller-coastery wait-what-just-happened? feel, so I'm still debating whether to drop this tag on mine for now.

I'm starting to greatly prefer the use of odd acronyms such as this to regular words. First, it lets the author save Description space; secondly, it's much more accurate for the browser. When I searched for "SFMA" out of curiosity after seeing it, the only arcs that turned up were ones so tagged.

I'm more behind Twoflower. Too much confusion will ensue if it's not a well-known "official" acronym. Only a small portion of the player-base even comes to the forums, where such a thing most likely would be legitimized.

EDIT: Gah. Forgot to hit the right button. This is in reply to Twoflower. I hadn't read the rest of the thread yet.

Dec out.

Qr - getting the SFMA tag recognized by the larger playerbase and avoiding any miss-assumption of voting cartel is why I will occasionally explain thetag in Help and broadcast (not going to spam mecikessly though). It's been discussedon the MA arc finder channel too.

Added SFMA to my story-driven arcs. I hope it catches on. I'm quite proud of my creations, especially my "long story" arc. Refer my sig.

Qr - as for using whole words, such as 'storytelling' or 'story', I experimented with them in search and found that arcs with those words in the title or in the description eg 'what's the story? Someones stolen my glowies'! Get m back for me (badge mission)' would crop up. Plus, some people in the MA Arc Finder channel rightly pointed out that some folks descriptions were long enough already that space was an issue.

You can still search for 'story' if you like. This isn't mandatory LOL.

Searching for Story, I see Eco's point. It brings up sometimes unwanted arcs. I have added [SFMA] to my arcs that fit. I am also going to add [LBMA] (LowBie friendly Mission Arc) to the appropriate arcs.
