Out of curiosity, was he that succinct or was there more to the question and response? Sean is a bit reticent when it comes to interacting with the forumites, so I wouldn't be awfully surprised if "Sorry, no" was the sum total of the response. It would just be interesting if there was more to it than that.

For instance, "No, NCSoft is not considering any novels presently." is a rather different response than "No, the EULA and copyright law forbid you from publishing any material based on our intellectual property without our express permission."

I had specifically asked him who at NCsoft I would need to contact to pitch them publishing TCoSR as the third CoH novel. The relevant part of his PM'd response was (this is paraphrased per vaguely-remembered forum policy about not quoting PMs from rednames):

"third novel's half written but we're not looking at publishing new novels"

I did PM him back asking if there was a way for me to get the license to publish it myself (rather than having THEM do it), no response on THAT yet. Somehow, though, I'm not holding my breath on him saying "yes" to that, either.

The rikti mages were a nice complication. Is the Black and Grey Vanguard outfits cannon?

Thanks, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

As for black/grey Vanguard armor being canon, I don't believe so (although you do see the paramilitary ops in all black all over the place in the Vanguard base). And given that Gaussian's division tends to be the closest thing to 'black ops', it seemed a nifty idea.

Yeah, the Sword branch of Vanguard seems like a pretty good match, with their darker armor pieces and proactive attitudes/methods for battling the Rikti.

If I haven't said it before (and I can't imagine why I wouldn't have!), this is an all-around excellent story, Dark. It doesn't matter if it isn't technically canon, the characterizations are perfect.

A quick update for those who've been wondering when Part II is due to begin. I'm waiting to hear back from Manticore about a few in-game timeline/story things before I get started. This way I don't have to waste a metric a**load of time and effort retconning stuff later on down the road.

Coz things are gonna get INTENSE.

I'll give you a hint, since I've been planning this arc for a long time now. The next major arc of TCoSR predates "Going Rogue" by close to four months. Draw your own conclusions.

I have followed TCoSHR for a while now...I think I started reading it back when it was still in the first 10 chapters if not first 5...and I have to say, I love it. Never got around to posting before, but I enjoyed reading every chapter and it was always nice to check the thread and find a new chapter. I cannot wait for the sequel.

Well, I started writing Book 2 today while I was at work... depending on whether the SMEs that are supposed to email me back actually DO, I might have time to finish Chapter 1 of TCoSR2: Courtship and Crime Fighting.

And I really need to find an artist to do the cover for the second book...

I won't tell you what I thought about your story, I'll just tell you I suffered through horrid basic web service on my Kindle and chose your work over a dozen unread books I've paid for - You figure out what that means!

Sorry I'm a bit late on commenting but I only found the game a couple months ago and your story maybe 2 weeks ago and only read it at work since home time was spent learning the game...

Oh, one last comment I will make after having read your story... I now feel almost ashamed at my own attempts at creative writing
