It IS recommended that you figure it out first, before trying to proclaim a new thread about anything. Blindly posting whatever 'seems good to you'

I must have been typing too quietly again.

Post as seems good to you. Let the rest sort it out.

Storage per byte is actually very cheap now.

Not when I'm reading the same damn idiotic "gotta have x and y" threads every week. It takes up MY time, and yours, and everyone else's. When there are already good, well thought out and complicated threads about the subjects, bringing up whatever often can or needs to be brought up... Why do it AGAIN?

Why not just DO what the forum rules SUGGEST you do? And what those 20 people suggest? And what all other forums I've ever, ever been on suggest? Search first. Post after you've searched. That will make the OP wise enough to post something DIFFERENT.

I do like it when there's something slightly tweaked - but the truth is that most if not all the "unique twists" have been brought up after months of arguing about the same thing, "I looked at this thread and the other and realized if you did z and d things, you'd have this other result what do you think of that?"

That's a worthy thread in the making. But one which is simply put NOT researched whatsoever.... will almost always be shot down because it will fall into the long-lamented "why didn't you search for that, it's brought up every other day" routine.

[/ QUOTE ]

Somebody holding a gun to your head forcing you to read each and every thread or something? Why read them at all? Just look at the title, roll your eyes, and skip it and your time won't be wasted. If people would just skip the repeat posts and not feel obliged to reply with some flippant comment or demand that all posters do things a certain way, then it wouldn't take long for them to scroll away into the forum's nether regions, never to be seen again.

Because people are too busy /signing, /unsigning, giving rude posts, making random posts, and responding to the OP instead of reading the OP and the last last post of the Topic to see if their opinion has already been made.

So my question is; why do I have to waste my time reading, "This a bad idea", "I rather see more contant", "This will waste the Devs time.", "This has been suggest 17 billion times", "The OP obviously isn't bright enough to use the search function", and/or "Grammar and Spelling is your friend" posts. Instead of post that makes any kind of opinionated remark to the original post or posts which have responded to the original post.

Other times when people post the same things over and over again. Isn't because they didn't search. It's because people don't use well informative titles such as, "Power Visual Graphics Costumization". But, instead use a title like, "MY SUPER AWESOME SUPREMO IDEA THAT WILL RULE ALL!!!". Even just using "Power Costumization" can cause someone to post. Because a power costumization post maybe about getting the ability to turn an AoE attack into a concentrated narrow angled cone attack that hits less foes but increase the damage the foes that are hit takes and not about changing the color of the power or putting fire on a broadsword.

If it ain't broke set it on fire, then say it was a fault in the design.

... Any of which would easily be solved by picking an existing thread which DOES state in the title something fairly obvious - like most of them do - and posting there.

Or, god forbid, *reading their contents instead of assuming*.

This thread really should be stickied.

"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict

Or deleted.

Here's a question for those tormented of posts they consider repetitive: if someone does search and appends their point to an existing thread, how many of you would be in his face for thread necromancy/dead horse/etc.?

Unpleasant posts attacking others for those activities are quite as common as "lrn 2 srch n0o0b" critiques. I do not recall offhand if any posters are prone to both, but any that are seem to be contradicting themselves (or blowing their cover, revealing the shining, brave protector of forum integrity as just another pathetic internet control freak).

And to be sure, even if the intersection set of "Search dammit" and "No Necrothreads dammit" critics is small, or even non-existent, the poor op is going to get attacked by one faction or the other for violating their particular notion of netiquette.

So users may as well post as seems good to them, either searching up a thread or starting their own. For no matter what they do they will be bound to offend someone in the metanarrative.

Now if the intent is actually to stifle the content, rather than the vehicle, of a discussion, that is a different matter.

If the poster (however unlikely this is) actually comes up with a *viable, interesting and new* twist on anything - almost all of us, I suspect, would give it a cheer instead of a jeer.

If, however, the more likely occurance happens: "Well I didn't feel like reading all 20 pages of this so I'll just say 'I want powers to be colorable!!!!1'" Then yes, they'll get the standard ranting.

It's exactly the same if they start a new thread, only at least in one case, they have the chance to READ UP on what's come before, instead of continuing to just blindly pound the keyboard.

Or the third. Someone PM Ex to sticky it, I don't think we're allowed to ask the mods to sticky our own threads.

Posted

It's been five days. If the mods had wanted to sticky it, they probably would have done so by now. But I don't think they will, and even if they did, I would PM them to reconsider for the reasons I've mentioned earlier: the original post is simply too condescending.

And as the attempts for shameless bumping keep occurring (also mentioned in the rules), my guess is this topic is more likely to be locked than stickied.

Posted

When you post a crappy idea for the fifth time today because you didn't read the big (GUIDELINES ARE HERE - READ FIRST) sticky, you deserved to get condescended too.

And if this thread gets locked for bumping, then I don't see why they won't start locking reposted idea threads.

So this is a regurgitated post with a little extra to make it 'different' Didn't Memphis Bill make the 'How to Search Guide'?

Oh, he did.

His was a guide to work the existing one.

Mine provided a better alternative to the boards' search function.

I think that's different enough to warrant the creation of a new thread.

Or perhaps force an auto-search of the potential thread maker's thread title and show related threads in this forum, then asking again, "Here are some threads that may potentially be related. Do you still wish you continue?".

Then their excuse of "I didn't know" can't work. Ever.

I like this idea out of all the suggestions here,
and to ostrakon: /e smackself, how could I have never thought of using the "Site:website.com topic" feature on google for the boards?
